Self-adjusting passenger-side electric brake is 12" x 2". Brake pads are made of durable friction material for improved braking and longevity. E-coated backing plate resists rust. Fits 14-1/2", 15", 16", 16-1/2" wheels.

Features:

  • Electric brakes are easier to install and offer more user control than hydraulic brakes

  • Automotive-grade friction material is molded to brake shoes
    • Pads are fully bonded - not riveted - to shoes for long life and more braking torque
    • Less chance of cracking and crumbling that can lead to mechanical lockup, thanks to tapered edge and circular grinding
  • Self-adjusting brake does not require periodic manual adjustment like standard brakes
    • Fine-tooth brake adjustment gear allows for a more precise setting
  • E-coated backing plate resists wear and corrosion
  • Adjuster plugs (included) cover access holes to keep dirt and grime out of the assembly and off of the shoes

  • QAI and CSA certified

Self-Adjusting Brake Doesn't Require Routine Adjustment

Standard electric brake assemblies require manual adjustment of the brake shoes over time to provide longer-lasting and more efficient braking performance. With self-adjusting brakes, the brake shoes are always properly aligned, so there's no need to manually adjust the brakes after the initial adjustment. As a result, you get optimum performance without having to take the time to continually perform this type of maintenance.

Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This brake assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This brake assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This brake has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe on this brake assembly is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. This durability helps to prevent mechanical lockup, which can occur when brake shoes are excessively worn or broken.

The friction material is also SAE-N certified, which means that it is an environmentally safe product that complies with California and Washington regulations regarding the composition of brake pads. As a result, this material not only provides high-performance braking that can endure the test of time, but it is also environmentally friendly and safe for use throughout the United States and Canada.

top notch web information on the product and installation instructions, ordering was easy, product showed up 3 days early, fair pricing.

Only complaint was the packaging of the product was poor. nothing was damaged but there was only a small amount of packing paper in the box separating the brake shoe assembly. Overall experience would had easily been a 5 if not for the sparse packaging. The outer packing box showed up looking brand new, so the shipping handlers were gentle to this product this time around.

by:

The product is excellent the handling of the product by UPS damaged one of the brake assemblies, but etrailer has told me they are going to send another brake assembly to replace the one that was damaged by UPS overall very satisfied with etrailer

I received the parts I needed within 3 days. Etrailer is my goto place for trailer parts. Thanks again

Fried a brake shoe on my Montana 5th wheel, needed right side replacements quickly. These kits make repairs much easier than just changing shoes, which are impossible to get on the road for self adjusting set upon plus provides all new hardware & magnet. Kits are an exact replacement of the Dexter units on my rig at a better price than anybody else.ordered via phone and expressed need for quick delivery. Melissa in sales was very knowledgable and helpful in ensuring my order was the correct items and shipped them for delivery in 3 days so I could get my rig back operational. Rig is a 2010 and 1 shoe section separated/unbounded from the metal, assumed from age and wedged in the drum causing the drum to heat up severely about a 1/2 mile from pulling into the campground. Very blessed to be that close to the end of our trip. Needless to say, replacing all 4 wheels with new kits.
Very satisfied with the assistance and response from Etrailer

by:

To team e-trailer,
So far,so good. The
complete units were easy to install, although some of the brake assembly units were out of place and had to be reset from shipping and ruff handling. Here are some pictures of the 44 ft pace rig. We have already recommend you to many of our peers. We travel to about 20 events per year and in all kind of traffic conditions, we will let you know how they slow down the unit.
Thanks Al and Matt

You were fast and I have them installed already.
I thought Good Service was a thing of the past but, you proved me wrong on that.
Thank you very much and I hope we continue the good relationship.

I don't usually do product reviews but wanted to post this one. This was my first purchase from etrailer. I purchased all four brake assemblies for our 5th wheel which I felt was the easiest and best way to go and had my drums machined. It was a very easy transaction, the parts came quickly and fit as they should. Very pleased with the product although I have not put the trailer on the road yet.
BUT- The packaging was very poor. The assemblies were in a carton twice as big as it needed to be without adequate packing and the items rattled around to the point that two shoes were knocked out of place on the backing plates. I was able to correct it and no damage done, this time. Please improve your packaging.
I would definitely buy from etrailer again.

Replacing the brakes on a 50 year old FAN camper. After being assured that it had 10 inch brakes by another company"s "expert" because it has a 3500# axle, I finally received the correct 12 inch brakes from eTrailer. They arrived very quickly, and packaged well. The installation went almost as easy as the very helpful online video showed. Only difference was I had to slightly tighten the brakes to slide the hub over them, even though they are self-adjusting once in service. I have never owned or worked on a trailer before, and the installation was relatively easy. Thank you to George J for the followup email within 24 hours of delivery.

by:

I purchased the brake assemblies last spring but did not get around to installing on our 5th wheel trailer this past fall. Packaging was sufficient & all parts were there & in place on the backing plates. The install went well, brakes are working good.I looked up online a brake in procedure for the shoe assemblies & followed it which helped out after the install.Overall I'm pleased with the price of the product, the service from etrailer aswell.

Brakes are working fine,I like dealing with etrailer.

by:

The brakes on my 2002 Komfort 24-TS trailer were completely shot. I needed to replace the drums (cheaper than having them turned). I also needed to replace the electric brake assemblies and to upgrade them from manual to automatic adjusting. I called etrailer.com a couple of times to make sure I was ordering the rights parts and the phone reps were very helpful and courteous. The parts arrived on time and in good shape. I had everything I needed to complete the job. It took me all day to do all 4 wheels but I saved myself a whopping $1,000 over having the shop do the job.

Great product, Fast shipping, great price. Ordered these on 6/25/18 and received on 6/27. Installed them today without a hitch. Had I gone to a parts house and just bought the pads and a kit I would have spent nearly what I paid for these completely assembled ones.

So far so good.

Excellent Customer Service from the start! Kate M. Helped verify I was ordering the correct assemblies. The cost was very good comparably, my neighbor did his a few months ago, etrailer was 50% of what he paid!

They shipped the day of the order and got to my house about 2 days faster than I Expected! I don't believe it could have gone smoother or better.

Thank You Kate M., you were awesome!

I neglected to order these when I ordered my parts last year. Finally got around to doing the brakes on my gooseneck and two old ones were junk after disassembly. So I recommend ordering these. They are cheap enough and if you have them and don't need them your not out much. I now have some extras in my trailer parts box .

Martha rocks and was very helpful and friendly. So far I am impressed by Etrailer.com. But do your homework, it is up to you to order what you need and order the correct parts. If you can handle this responsibility, you will have a much better experience. All the parts I ordered last year and this year came very fast and were the correct parts. I suggest you look over the "new completed" brake sets with backing plate to make sure they are assembled correctly. A spring put in backwards may cause adjusting problems later. One of my self adjusting brakes is not adjusting and I think I may have to pull it off and examine why? I should of done this on that last brake as I did on the others. Any maybe it will come around with some more use? Seriously at this time I am very happy with my shopping here. Fast shipping and friendly staff, but again do your homework and you can avoid a lot of problems with wrong parts or delays because of this. Regards, John.

by:

I was very impressed with this brake assembly, I purchased (2) two for each side of my 5th wheel right and left sides. I have usually purchaced Dexter brand assembly's, Dexters are a lot more expensive. The more I researched these brake assembly's the more I was impressed, in my opinion these are actually a little better brake pads. When I get ready to buy some more for my gooseneck trailers I will definitely by these again for them. Thanks etrailer.
Sorry, I didn't take any pictures, I was leaving on trip the next day that I received them.

by:

These brake assemblies are cost-effective and work great, and they're easy to install. I replaced all four on my old car trailer and I'm very happy with them. I did an [online] video of my installation. Packing for shipment seemed a little bit marginal, but obviously sufficient as they made the trip undamaged. Note that this purchase was made in June of 2016 (it's now February 2021) so the packing protocol may be different. I'd buy again in a minute.

by:

Bought this system last year in March of 2016, as well as new wheels and hubs, and by Jan of 2017, they noticed when we had it at the factory getting some repairs done, the brakes were already completely gone. We only did 13,000 miles last year after the new system was installed. Had to have all new brakes and rotors put on at the factory, just to be able to get it home. So disappointed they were gone in less than a year.

by:

Arrived in a timely manner. Definitely high quality product, one backing plate had brake shoes jostled a little out of place. I carry brake tools so no issue. Parts fit exactly, after packing bearings did a 60 mile road test where braking was noticeable but quite weak. After about 100 miles of gentle mountain driving brake function improved to be better than it had ever been, so factor this break-in to your usage of your fifth wheel/trailer.

by:

The brake assemblies and drum/Hubs were a perfect fit thanks to etrailer customer service taking the time on the phone to make sure I measured and ordered the correct parts. I made two mistakes during installation. Put a left brake assy on right side and had to take everything off again. Although they were packed tight, because of rough shipping one brake shoes self adjustment cable (the last one I installed) was disconnected and had to be re-connected, and since I did not inspect all the parts before beginning (second mistake) I had to look on etrailer's web site to see how it was assembled. It took time out of the job and grease on my laptop. If you don't make mistakes, it is EASY. Thanks etrailer.

by:

Our Flat bed trailer can do some pretty heavy work however we do not use this trailer all the time.
When the brakes failed we ordered from etrailer and the parts came in and we installed them without much ado.
Thank you for having all the parts we needed. After a year of seldom but heavy usage the self adjusting brakes are still working splendidly.

Ordered 2L and 2R replacement brake sets along with but/washer/bolt replacements. Received 1L & 1R and all nut/washer/bolts-20. Enough to do all 4 replacement brakes. Called and found out that only 1 of each wash typed in. I did get free shipping and they did correct the order, again with free shipping.
The first set had been bounced around because the shoes werebout of alignment. I had watched a youtube.com video to see how they went on, so i knew what to do to fix the problem. My ego did not allow me to call and complain. I figured that if you can replace the brakes, you should know how the should look and howbto make them fit. So etrailer.com I suggest that they need to improve the packaging. The next guy may not be able to figure out what to do.... Nor should he.
I have the first set on and this weekend the second set will be fitted. Plan a head on the project. Do 1 at a time and photo how you remove so you can get them back on easier.
This is a messy job. Use a paint tarp to keep grease off your driveway. Have several cans of brake cleaner - really cuts thenold grease.
As long as you have the hubs off, re pack your bearings. I was not prepared. I will have to do a better repacking before rolling out next spring. Don't forget to get bearing seals because you WILL destroy the old ones getting them off. Happy camping!

by:

Received 4 total brake sets, backing plates with shoes, drums, lugnuts, bearings and seals. All very good quality. Only gave a 4 star as I was amazed the 5 backing plate bolts "were not" included. Everything else was so complete. I have spent fair amount of time rounding up 20 3/8"X1"-24 grade 5 bolts and nuts. Seems that today no one stocks many of these causing me to run around trying to round up a total of 20 each. I live 15 miles from town so I spent some valuable time for something I thought would surely be included in an otherwise complete package. That being said, I am very pleased with etrailer.com in every other aspect. They are very helpful on the phone information also.

by:

The assemblies and price were good. To make it better I would include the other stuff to do the job. This includes wire nuts or clips, new mounting bolts with lock washers, cotter pins and maybe inner bearing seals. For a few dollars more we would have everything to do a complete job. In addition, it would be worth mentioning either online by “Purchased with” or over the phone suggest inner and out bearings. This was you have everything you need to service your brakes.

by:

Junk. Over tightens the brake. I had 3. One keep over heating or locking up the brake. One wore out the shoes in about two weeks and damaged the drum.. One had the return spring brake in the first week. Then the adjuster fell apart and rolled around the drum..

by:

Replaced all 4 on my 1998 TRACKER 5th wheel. It took my son and myself about 3 hours to accomplish. Self adjusting worked great. Brakes work better than when trailer was new. Been pulling it for over a year now still braking as if just installed.

by:

This is one of those times where I really needed to stop and take the time to write a review. If you look at the pictures you will see that I have a tri-axle trailer and I had no paperwork on the brakes when I bought it from the original owner. So I call e trailer and I get Cathy T on the phone. I ask her if trailers are her specialty and she says "sure they are" I said ok great lets dig in but I don't know what I have but I told her I did have a caliper to measure. So after about an hour on the phone she questioned me enough to figure out the front and rear bearing AND race sizes, the seal size AND the replacement break assembly kit to use. I never once felt rushed and she was awesome !! There was a lot to ask about to make sure we got it right and guess what Cathy T NAILED IT. Check out the picture of the parts on the bench. Every part was exactly what I needed. It all worked out perfectly and I cannot say enough good things about my experience with e trailer and Cathy T. If you EVER need help with a trailer E Trailer is the ONLY place to go. The price is incredible and the service is even better. What an awesome organization. Thank you E Trailer and Cathy T

  • Picking Out Replacement Self Adjusting Brake Assemblies for Northwood Fox Mountain 235RLS
Based on what you listed so far the most likely solution you need for self-adjusting brake assemblies would be the part # AKEBRK-7L-SA for the left hand side and part # AKEBRK-7R-SA for the right hand side but you should check out your current assemblies first to verify this. Make sure your current assemblies are held on with 5 bolts and that the drum has a 12 inch diameter. If you have something different let me know and I'll get you what you'd need.

  • Replacement Electric Brake Assemblies for Denali Trailer with Tandem 5.2K Lippert Axles
I'm assuming that you're simply replacing the existing brake assemblies and that your trailer has hub/drums that have an inside diameter of 12 inches and a depth of 2 inches. I'm also assuming that your existing brake drums are in good shape, and you're planning on reusing them. If that's the case, I'd recommend the self adjusting electric brake assembly, part # AKEBRK-7R-SA for the right hand side, part # AKEBRK-7L-SA for the left. You'll need two of each. The brake assemblies don't include...

The higher cost of Dexter electric brakes like the Nev-R-Adjust # 23-459 definitely has a lot to do with their name.
