Recommended Leaf Spring Axle and Lift Kit For Trailer With 9000lb Torsion Axle

Question:

I am hoping to raise the bed of my trailer by converting torsion suspension axles to leaf spring with over under placement of the axles. I need 7 inches of elevation. The 9,000 lb 8 lug axle is twice the strength I need.

I would be happy to recommend everything you will need to replace your 9000lb torsion axle with a leaf spring axle and an everything needed to get it installed, but unless your current axle has a 3-4" drop spindle you will not be able to raise the trailer by the 7" you are looking for.

Since you mentioned your 9000lb axle is twice the strength you need, the Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - E-Z Lube - 8 on 6-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 95" - 7,000 lbs # 8327834-EB may be a great option but you will need to confirm the length of your current axle measured hub face to hub face. This axle includes hub and drum assemblies with the 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern you mentioned, and electric braking assemblies.

The # 8327834-EB measures 95" hub face to hub face as shown in the included diagram, so if this matches your current axle this would be a great option.

Next you will need hanger kit # APS4 if you are using a single axle, or # APT5 if you are using tandem axles, and leaf springs # e64SR. To get additional ground clearance you will need to use an over-under kit # K71-385-00 which moves the axle from on top of the leaf springs to underneath the leaf springs, and raises the ride height of the trailer by the diameter of the axle (3" in this case) plus the thickness of the leaf spring stack.

Another option is the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - 4" Lift Spindle w/ Brake Flange - 5,200 lbs # TASR5200S03 which use built in progressive rate AEON main springs instead of leaf springs for a smoother ride, and bolt directly to the frame of your trailer. The spindle has a built in 4" lift, but will only work with idler hub # 8-213-5UC1-EZ, or hub and drum assembly # 8-201-5UC3-EZ of which both have the 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern instead of the 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern of your current axle.

The correct braking assemblies for this option is the # AKEBRK-7L-SA and # AKEBRK-7R-SA.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
