Replacement Electric Brake Assemblies for Denali Trailer with Tandem 5.2K Lippert Axles

Question:

I have a 2008 denali trailer. It has 2 lippert axles under it. The sticker says they are rated at 5200lbs each. I need to buy brake kits for it including magnets and hardware. What do you need from me to make sure I get the correct sets. I will need all 4. Thanks

I'm assuming that you're simply replacing the existing brake assemblies and that your trailer has hub/drums that have an inside diameter of 12 inches and a depth of 2 inches. I'm also assuming that your existing brake drums are in good shape, and you're planning on reusing them.

If that's the case, I'd recommend the self adjusting electric brake assembly, part # AKEBRK-7R-SA for the right hand side, part # AKEBRK-7L-SA for the left. You'll need two of each. The brake assemblies don't include the hardware to mount them to the brake mounting flanges. You can reuse the existing hardware, but I'd recommend going with new. For each assembly, you'll need 5 bolts, part # 7-5, 5 nuts, part # 38N, 5 lock washers, part # 38LW, and two adjuster hole plugs, # BP10-220.

While you have the hub/drum pulled, be sure to examine the armature surface (inside of the drum that the brake magnet rides against). If the surface is grooved and pitted, you should probably replace the drums as well, because the grooves will prematurely wear the magnets on your new brake assemblies.

In order to recommend the correct replacement drums, I'll need to know the reference numbers from your inner and outer wheel bearings and the wheel bolt pattern. I'll link you to an FAQ article that explains how to determine the wheel bolt pattern.
