This AC unit from Advent Air is designed to replace the old or broken Coleman Mach air conditioner on your RV or camper. The included adapter wiring kit ensures that the AC works seamlessly with your existing, in-good-working-order Coleman air distribution box and thermostat. The AC has a powerful fan and motor that provides a steady stream of air to efficiently cool the inside of your RV on a hot or muggy day. The included start capacitor will help jumpstart the AC. This beneficial upgrade provides the AC a boost when shore power or generator power isn't enough to start it. And everything you need in order to replace your AC unit is included, which makes installation simple and easy.

Start Capacitor

Advent Air Start Capacitor

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

Advent Air AC Installation 15,000 BTU

Because your RV is likely already prepped and pre-wired for an AC unit, installation is simple and easy. Most AC units, including this one, are designed to fit an opening that measures 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". Depending on your roof setup, you may need to do minimal alterations. If the opening is larger than 14-3/8" x 14-3/8", you will need to install spacers between the sides of the unit and the opening's edges. If the opening is smaller than 14-1/8" x 14-1/8", you will need to enlarge the hole to fit the unit snugly inside the opening.

Advent Air AC Collapsible Gasket and Foam Pads

On the bottom of the AC, there's a thick, collapsible gasket with 6 noise-reducing foam pads. This provides support between the RV roof and AC and seals the opening to prevent water and outside air from leaking in. Because of this, the use of fresh sealant isn't required during installation.

To install the start capacitor, bolt it to the fan motor support with the included hardware and then route the wires to the run capacitor.

Once installed, the hard plastic cover on the AC can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning.

Advent Air Warranty Coverage

2-Year limited warranty covers defective units when installed correctly on approved applications. The warranty does not cover units installed incorrectly. To ensure air conditioner is installed correctly, please see the questionnaire pdf below. A filled-out questionnaire is required for warranty coverage.

If you are not comfortable using a voltmeter (or removing the charge from the start capacitor), youll want to make a service appointment with your local RV dealer to verify the installation. Print the pdfs below (warranty- questionnaire, warranty dealer information) and take them along with the RV to your local dealer. ASA does compensate dealers for warranty work as outlined in the dealer information pdf. You may be charged by the dealer for time spent investigating the installation.

Unit works great. Took an hour to change out. Hooked up as advertised. We replaced a Coleman Mach 3 13,500 btu for the 15,000. Puts out a lot of CFM.

Unfortunately, UPS shipping damage occurred in transit. Really nothing you can do about them being careless with your packages.

I hate to see this kind of damage! I passed your information along to customer service for them to better assist you.

etrailer has gone above and beyond with this order! The cover for the unit was damaged during delivery, no fault of theirs. They offered and sent out a replacement on their dime. As for the performance of the into itself: BEAST MODE! In 120 degree desert sun, keeps us cooler in the 80s

Unit works great.

by:

Didn't realize I'd owned this unit for a year already, no regrets though. Works great, all you need to do is find a good helper to get it on the roof. About a half hour start to finish. Highly recommend as a replacement for original unit.

by:

This company was referred to me and sometimes I am a little weary of buying something so expensive online but they were so helpful from the beginning. I got email immediately and was able to track my order to when it was delivered.
Thank you etrailer!

by:

It was a perfect fit! The wire harness was easy and worked perfectly. Way better than was expected.

by:

Installed 2 new Advent 15k btu air conditioners on our 2010 Winnebago RV. The old Coleman Mach units were dead. I got the pigtails that connected the new ACs to the existing Coleman control box. It couldn't have been easier! I didn't have to disconnect power or any of the wiring. Just had to drill 4 holes in the existing metal Coleman ceiling retainer rings for the hold-down screws. Read the instructions and it goes simple. Also, I was able to fit the old Coleman control box under the ceiling above the filter plate instead of cutting it into the return air shroud like the instructions suggest. It was a better installation for us. 2 units installed in 4 hours. Nice system, would definitely purchase again. Also the 2nd time we've ordered expensive things from etrailer.com with zero issues.

One year update: After a year of travel, one of the AC units didnt cool when I turned it on. Called etrailer and was able to get in contact with the manufacturer. They both helped me troubleshoot the issue. In my case it was just a loose wire, probably from several thousand miles of potholes. They both are working great now and I wouldnt hesitate to order them again. Service has been excellent.

by:

We will definitely it again. Great customer service and they really want to help you in anyway. Top notch place

by:

Perfect fit. All necessary items included. Bought a 2nd. Same results. Good deal

by:

Excellent replacement for my coleman, saved a few hundred dollars going this route. Used an installer from etrailers list and everything went great. Had to pay a little under 300 hundred for the install but worth it if you consider a slip and fall would ruin the 800 plus dollar unit, not to mention possible injury.

by:

Did not match up with my Coleman Mach, Had to isolate cold air and return air. Which I did. Worked great for about 5 minutes. Unit quit running. Check all breakers, power supply, fuses etc. etrailer tells me to call manufacturer, Manufacturer tells me to contact etrailer. Leaving on a trip in 2 days, this SUX.

by:

It’s been a year now and I’ve had zero issues with this unit. Install was straightforward and the system kept my trailer cool in the hottest days. I’m living in my trailer while I build my new place, so this unit has been given a workout.

by:

I highly recommend this replacement, it works very well. It is very easy to install, I do however recommend going ahead and ordering the complete unit, top and bottom. Once I installed my top, I realized I had an issue with the board relay's. Great replacement.

by:

Working great. Required Modifications from Coleman to Advent, though instructions were easy to understand

by:

Some of the directions were misleading. They had me cut a hole in the foam housing over the evaporator that was not required for this installation.
Inlet and outlet from the ac did not match the panel inside the trailer. Had to fabricate some walls for inside the diffuser to direct the air where it needed to go.
The unit itself is operating fine.

by:

This unit can't be beat if you are replacing a stock Coleman--Avery straightforward installation.

Airflow is better than my old Coleman but temperature is not. I've taken 3 trips with this Advent on Summer days with temperatures in the 90s, and in all cases the output temperature never got cooler than 60. The old Coleman could blow 50 degrees.

Etrailer Expert

Mike L.

1/24/2019

Where are you measuring the 60°? According to the manufacturer, ASA Electronics, if your trailer has a ducted system, its possible that theres a leak in the ductwork. The best way to rule out the AC unit itself is to measure the output air temperature right as it leaves the unit.

by:

I called etrailer and gave them my model number of both the roof unit and the interior air distribution box before I ordered and the "Expert" told me that this unit would work and would be plug and play with my existing unit in my camper. I ordered it and the roof unit did indeed work great. It bolted right up and my existing control box works great. The inside air distribution panel not so much. Called the etrailer "Expert" who then called the manufacturer who said basically oh well it happens. So my only option was to buy a complete retrofit kit that has the interior panel and a whole new thermostat set up that I don't need or want for an additional $xxx. I asked etrailer for a little help supporting their customer and at least give it to me for the price I would have gotten it for if I ordered it as a kit with my roof unit which would have been $xx. I think they should have sent it to me for free but a fair compromise would have been the $xx price because they were the ones that told me not to buy the kit in the first place because it was "plug and play". But all etrailer cares about is making that next sale and the next buck so they made me buy it for full price. So make sure that whatever you order from etrailer is going to work and verify their advice with another source before you buy because once you give them your money you are on your own. etrailer will not even try to make it right. It will be a long time before I buy anything from etrailer again and if anyone asks I will send them somewhere else.

by:

After replacing the AC a week later the other one quit so we bought a 2nd one easy to install , very happy with the way they work.

5/21/2024

They work very well, I thought they were a little more noisy than old ones, but work on cooling the camper down real good

by:

Took the camper to Saint Augustine for the 4th of July with the New AC and it did great in 95 degree temps and at sea level humidity.

by:

Was told by rv tech it would be easy swap with Coleman so I bought your unit it turned out the swap was a pain 90 minute job turned into 3 hours at 85$ an hour

Etrailer Expert

Jenny N.

3/8/2023

That installation sounds rough. Can you tell me more on why the swap was so tough on this AC unit?

Russel

3/9/2023

The bolts that secure it to plate the inside the unit were about an inch short had to use all thread.

Etrailer Expert

Jenny N.

I reached out to the manufacturer about this and they advised that they have heard of this before. It typically happens when the roof has slight curve to it. These AC units are designed to work best with a flat roof. Or if you do have a flat roof then it could be a thicker roof than expected. It sounds like you had to use longer bolts which caused the longer install time. The manufacturer made the same suggestion with using longer bolts to make it secure.

by:

I really debated about buying and installing a replacement AC unit ourselves or having a local RV dealer do it for us. After a lot of research, including reading etrailer's great on-line Q&A section, we ordered the Advent Replacement AC with the Coleman set up w/start capacitor. The wiring, which was my main concern for doing it ourselves, was truly "plug and play" and matched the old unit perfectly. No new control box or air distribution cover needed. The worst part of the entire process was getting the old, much heavier unit to the ground. The new unit fired right up and started cooling the toy hauler in the 113 degrees Las Vegas heat whereas the old unit was pretty much maxed out once we got past 90 degrees.

by:

I was a little unsure about the compatibility of this unit with my dead Coleman Mach unit. But it installed in less than 2 hours. The biggest challenge was removing the old unit from the roof and lifting the new one onto the roof. I could have used some help lifting it up there, but I managed by myself (don't recommend trying this!). The installation kit and instructions are complete. My particular Coleman unit had the control panel inside the ceiling behind the ceiling cover, so I did not have to install it onto the Advent unit as described in the instructions, which was a huge plus. I plugged it in and fired it up and the unit is performing well.

by:

It was easy to install and works great

by:

Unit fit well. Instructions were pretty clear. It would have been nice to know that the Advent did not come with control unit. Fortunately the old one was not damaged or I would not have been able to install. The Advent unit is smaller than the Coleman-Mach and somewhat louder. Otherwise is cooling well at this point.

by:

Just installed it and turned it on for the first time and it is amazing started to cool off the rv in minutes.

by:

The AC runs well and I was able to install it myself. The one complaint I do have is there was 2 dents in the frame and cover. They did not affect the operation of the unit but after paying that much for a u it it would have been nice to be dent free.

by:

Replaced two Coleman's with two of these a few months ago. The customer loves them and they installed easy with no issues.

This sounds like what is known as "short cycling", and it can be caused by a number of reasons, but most of the time it's due to the thermostat not reading the temperature correctly. To fix the issue, I recommend redirecting the air flow to not blow on or near the thermostat as that is what triggers the short cycle. it could also be a faulty unit or thermostat, though to verify this you would need a certified technician to come and look at the unit.
