Recommended Air Conditioner BTU Rating For A 28 Enclosed Trailer

Question:

I have a 28foot car trailer and I have insulated the roof but not the walls. The trailer is a 28x8.5 and is 610inch interior. Is a 13,500BTU enough and is there a minimum requirement on CFM they move?

Expert Reply:

As a rule of thumb, an air conditioner needs 20 Btu for each square foot of living space. You'll multiply the length by the width so 28x8.5 which would get you 238 and then times that by 20 which would be 4,760 so the Advent Air Replacement RV Air Conditioner # ACCOL150 with 13,500 BTU's will be more than enough for your trailer. I will note that the # ACCOL150 is a replacement rooftop unit for a Coleman AC system. if you're installing a brand new system you'll want the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner w/ Air Distribution Box and Start Capacitor # ACM135C which will come with everything you need.
