Love this machine. Took the guess work out of trouble shooting wiring issues in our customers vehicles trailer receptacles. Cut down on time therefore saving the customer money which in turn brought in return busines. I recommend this equipment to all shops that need to diag truck/trailer hookup problems.

Still performs exactly like I need it to.

I find this product very helpful in analysis and repair of trailer wiring harnesses. It allows me to test circuits without a tow vehicle present. It also allows me to test individual circuits. Which is very helpful.

Great

This product works as advertised. I have owned it for a year now with no problems and use it every day. Battery life is longer than I expected. Some great improvements would be to keep the park lights on constantly instead of blinking. Also the brake test should be on constantly instead of pulsing. There should also be another test button for just brake lights.
Otherwise this thing works awesome. The US price is good but with the exchange rate in Canada most techs will just build their own.

The tester is a wonderful asset to have, to test and see if your trailer lights are working. Or to help you find a problem in your trailer lights or electric brakes. Especially when you are working on the trailer by yourself. The folks at etrailer were a great help when I was purchasing the tester, they helped me with all the questions I had on the tester before I purchased it.
P.S.
Thanks Chris

  • Comprehensive Vehicle Side Trailer Connector and Wiring Tester
Most of the vehicle end trailer connectors we have will test for voltage on the circuits. If there was a short to ground then all of the lights would light up on the tester and you would know there is a problem. We do have a comprehensive trailer side tester, # 8010, which goes much further than any of the regular testers like # I26. But it is not designed for the vehicle side. For the vehicle side we have # HM50918 that can test multiple connector types on a vehicle (4-Flat, 6-Way round,...

  • Can Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester, # 8010 be Used to Test a Semi Tractor Trailer
Semi tractor trailers usually use a 7-Way round pin connector rather than the 7-Way blade style connector that the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester, # 8010, is designed for. However, it is possible to use an adapter, like the Adapter 7 Way (Blade) to 7 Way (Round Pin), # 47595, to be able to test the semi wiring.

  • Can 8010 Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester Test Brake Controller Circuit
Yes, the circuit labelled "brake" on the Tekonsha Circuit Tester part # 8010 would be for testing the brake controller's output on your tow vehicle.

  • Does the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Tester # 8010 Test Electric Trailer Brakes
The Tekonsha trailer wiring tester # 8010 can test the brake output circuit. It will be able to tell you in general that there is a problem like a short, overload, open ground, but you may have to do further testing on the brake magnets themselves depending on the nature of the problem. For that, you will need a multimeter like # PT89ZR if needed. I have included a link to an FAQ on testing brake magnets for you. I have also linked the instructions for the tester.

  • Trailer Wiring 7-Way Tester Recommendation
Actually we do, it's a bit pricey but you would want the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010. This plugs into a wall outlet and allows your trailer 7-way to plug into it and it will tell you what circuits are working and which aren't

  • Is Trailer Circuit Tester 8010 Compatible with a 2010 Ford F-250 7-Way and LED Lights
The # 8010 trailer circuit tester has a standard 7-Way layout, which would be the same as the layout on your 2010 Ford F-250 connector. Upon further investigation, we were able to confirm that the # 8010 circuit tester will work with LED trailer lights. I have included a link below to the installation instructions for the tester, if needed.

  • Will Current Monitor # 6565 Work with a Factory Integrated Brake Controller
Current Monitor # 6565 is the real deal. It was designed for use in shops. We use a version of it without the 7-Way for testing all sorts of things around here and I don't see any reason why it would not work with a factory integrated brake controller whether it by a Ram, Chevy, or Ford, or any import that might have one. The brake controller will need to be set to deliver greater than 10 volts. The current must be greater than 10 amps for 2 braking axles or 16 amps for 3 braking axles....

  • 7-Way Tester for Testing Trailer Side 7-Way
We have the Tekonsha 7-way tester part # 8010 that can test a trailer's wiring as well as Hopkins Tow Doctor Trailer End Test Unit # HM50928. Due to the nature of testing the trailer side of the wiring these kits cost a bit more than the testers for the vehicle.

  • What to Use to Test 7-Way Trailer Connector
To test a 7-way trailer connector on the rear of your vehicle you can use the Pollak Tester # PK12741. This tester is designed to work with all 7-way connectors. Another option is to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 and go come pin to pin testing each individually. If you're trying to test the trailer side connector it's a little different. A disconnected trailer doesn't have a power source so you will need something to provide it. The Hopkins Tow Doctor # HM50928 and Tekonsha Circuit...

  • Does Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester Activate Trailer Brakes
The Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010 does send power back to your trailer brakes to make sure the circuit is working correctly. This will apply your trailer brakes at short intervals and will let you know the condition of your wiring. This means that the tester essentially tells you whether or not your brakes are working, however if something is wrong with them mechanically (as in they need to be replaced because or wear) that will need to be determined by physically inspecting...

  • Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester Comparison
Both the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010 and the Hopkins Tow Doctor Trailer End Test Unit # HM50928 are for testing the wiring of your trailer. Both will work with incandescent and LED lights. However, the Hopkins will not display amperage for LED lights. They both connect the same by plugging your trailer's wiring harness into the unit. The Hopkins includes connectors for a 7-blade, a 4-pole, and 6-pole round. The Tekonsha has the 7-blade standard. If you need a different...

  • Can Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Tester # 8010 Detect Faults in an Enclosed Trailer Dome Light
The Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Tester # 8010 that you referenced is intended for connection to a trailer's RV-style 7-way blade connector plug. The tester's socket mimics a typical vehicle 7-way. This unit tests the exterior trailer lighting circuits. You should instead take a look at the tester # PTW2993. This hand-held probe tester lights up when it detects a signal, as demonstrated in the linked video.

  • Are Red and White Wires Correct for Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester
It was a good idea to ask but you assumed correctly that the white wire has replaced the black with the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010. The red wire will be attached to the positive terminal and the white wire will be attached to the negative terminal, as you can see in the accompanying photo. This is the closest we have to a diagram though, as one is not provided by the manufacturer. I do believe this is what you were looking for though so I believe it is going to help.

  • Troubleshooting Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010 Lights Flashing Without Trailer
The flashing lights on the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010 is an indication of a wiring short to ground. Since you do not have the trailer connector installed there is a chance the power is jumping between the terminals or the wires behind the connector are shorting together. If you are within your 1-year warranty you can contact Tekonsha about a warranty claim.

  • Troubleshooting Flashing Red Light On Power Circuit of the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester
I spoke to my contact at Tekonsha about your issue and he responded by saying that If the #5 led in the top row (power) is blinking the tester is bad. If the #1 led in the top row (power) is blinking the battery in the unit is severely low on voltage and needs to be replaced with a 2023-X battery.

  • What to Check When Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester Reads 3 Axles on a 2 Axle Trailer
The Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010 reading that you have 3 axles for the brake function just means that there is a bit more resistance on that circuit than what you'd normally find for a 2 axle setup. With this being the case you'll just want to check to make sure all of your grounds and connections are clean and properly secured. Pay a little closer attention to the ground for the brakes as a bad ground can cause issues. If everything looks fine than you're good to go!

The Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester part # 8010 does have an internal battery that needs to be charged. I have attached a snip from the installation instructions that explains charging the internal battery. The LED on the charger will turn green when the battery is charged. There is not really a set time to charge it but the green light is an indicator of being charged.

  • Is There a Tester for Trailer Side 7-Way
There is a tester for a trailer side 7-way (the standard blade-style, which is what I think you were referring to by flat 7-pin tester), though not a tester that you can plug in between your vehicle 7-way and trailer side 7-way; you would need to get two separate testers, one for each. For the trailer side tester, the only option is the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010. This is a comprehensive tester and all you have to do is plug your trailer's standard 7-way into it and...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Circuit with Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Harness # 8010
The brake circuit you see on the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester part # 8010 is actually for the trailer brakes and not the brake light circuit. So if you are seeing a fault on the brake circuit of your trailer it has to do with the brakes of the trailer. Since you are having issues with your Yukon's integrated controller and the tester is showing an error on this circuit I would anticipate your issue is the brake circuit of your trailer. This could be as simple as dirt or corrosion...

The Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010 that you referenced has a limited 1-year warranty that basically covers manufacturer defects. Tekonsha would be the one who would fix the unit in the unlikely event it malfunctioned. It is hard to say how long they would take but I imagine they would get it back to you as soon as possible. We have yet to hear a negative thing about the # 8010 so I would safely assume customers are happy with it. This should help you with testing all the...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Fuse Blowing When Truck Brakes are Applied
I think that the cause will be on the trailer side. If the lights are all working properly on the tractor, and all of the other lights on the trailer are working properly, it sounds like there is short happening on the trailer side with the brake light wire. I would check all the wiring on the trailer going to the brake lights from the connector back. There may be a cut in the wire making contact with metal on the trailer causing a short, blowing the fuse. I recommend isolating the trailer...

  • Does Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010 Work with Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes
