Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Very easy to install, took a total of an hour and a half to put on and drive away. Fit was perfect, no issues at all, all hardware was included and worked perfectly.

2018 GMC Terrain

Pretty good not gonna lie.. hangs a lil low the reason for 4 stars. This hitch has taken allot of abuse that my 2018 gmc terrain diesel can throw at it. In tow is my 50" rzr900 on an Aluma 54"x10' trailer both weigh roughly 1600 lbs. I have done allot of offroading trailer in tow. Prolly 10k miles towing mostly on unpaved roads drifting the trailer around corners.

everything went great

Good sturdy hitch. Fit was a bit off, I had to take a hammer to it to get the the holes to align up with the frame mount. Didn't need the fish wire; if you are careful you can get the bolts through the frame holes with careful placement. I found it impossible to get the torque wrench on the bolts that are above the DEF tank. Best I could do was get a wrench on the back one and a wobble socket on the front nut.
Directions for the hitch were for the Equinox, similar to the Terrain; but there is an additional piece of fender molding that needs to be removed before you can take off the 7mm screw on the bumper facia. I puzzled on this for a while before discovering that you can slide it up and away from the wheel well. Then remove the plastic clips and put them back in the molding for replacement. Would be nice to have this in the instructions..

Still working well. Wish the chain connectors were not mounted below the hitch, would have been better if they came off the slides since these occasionally drag on the ground.

My over all rating for Draw-TiteMax-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver Item # 76217 would be a 3 out of 5. On the installation of this hitch you are to remove and discard the inner bumper of the vehicle this leaves the back plastic cover of you vehicles bumper unsupported. I cut the ends of the inner bumper off and fabricated it to the hitch. This should have been an easy modification through the Draw-tite company. I would highly recommend not leaving the bumper cover unsupported in the case of a rear end collision or just setting an item on the bumper. The bumper was also very chipped when received requiring paint to cover exposed metal. it should be better packaged for shipping in a protective wrap.

The installation requires permanent removal of the impact structure or bumper beam because the hitch replaces it for support and safety. Customer service will reach out to you about the damaged hitch. It is important to cover all bare metal with anti-corrosive paint. For more rust prevention tips, see the attached help article:

I bought this hitch for our 2019 Chevy Equinox. The hitch fit and installed just fine and tows the small 4x6 trailer just fine. I hauled 1000 lbs of hay in the winter over 2 miles of dirt roads with a significant hill with 6 inches of snow on the ground just needed tire chains on the front wheels of the Equinox. However there is one kindof irritating feature... the safety chain loops are welded downward so they are about 3" lower than the hitch. Since the Equinox does not have alot of ground clearance this causes the hitch to scrape on the ground under certian conditions even when I have no load on it. there are areas on our roads that i have to be careful as the hitch will scrape on the rocky bumps and in town going in and out of my son's driveway I always scrape the asphalt. I am not sure why the chain loops were welded downward as shown in the picture. it would have been a better design if they were to the side as almost all of the other hitches are designed. just a constant little annoyance. I have even considered taking it to a welding shop to see if they can heat and bend the chain loops outward to the sides. If this were fixed it would be an excellent hitch. to deal with the annoyance i tell myself the hitch scraping is protecting the bottom of the vehicle..I hope this is true and that it is actually not causing damage.

Overall - the hitch itself is excellent. Well made and the position of the hitch receiver appears to work well (high off of the ground and towards the back edge of the bumper). One main issue I had is with shipping/packaging. Both "legs" of the hitch were punched through the cardboard box and a bit dinged up. The receiver portion had also punched through the box and appears to have been dragged - clearly chipping off the paint. That being said, all of the parts that I needed for assembly were included. The second, and probably most frustrating issue, was the installation instructions. The ones that come with the hitch are virtually useless as they are basically just a guide or outline of the steps. For a product that is very specific for the GMC Diesel Terrain (or the Equinox Diesel) - I expected some very specific instructions. The instructions provided here on the eTrailer webpage are much better - but they appear to be either specific to the Equinox or, perhaps, a lower model of this vehicle. For the GMC, the full bumper fascia must be removed - which is stated in the instructions, but the process is not explained. The number of screws to remove and their placement is wrong - but the biggest issue is the removal of fascia from hidden clips in the body panels - and how to reattach them when putting everything back together. Fortunately, I was able to get some guidance on YouTube (for a completely different Chevy vehicle). The version of GMC Terrain that I have also has a black plastic molding that goes over the wheel wells and around the bottom edge of the vehicle - removal and reattachment of the necessary parts of this was difficult - I ended up figuring this out on my own and was lucky not to break or scratch anything. All together, this probably took me 5 hours - If I had to do it again or with better instructions, it would have take at least half that much time.

etrailer does a superior job with their installation videos. On cars these days half the battle is knowing where all the fasteners are and where the one way clips are. etrailer's video called everything out making installation a snap.
Hitch is very well built and fit right in.

2019 GMC Terrain

I really appreciate how prompt etrailer was in regards to shipping my trailer hitch for my vehicle. It arrived as you promised, on Monday, and in perfect condition. I haven’t had a chance to install it as yet, but I have already read the installation instructions and it should not be a problem to install it.

by:

Fit right onto our diesel terrian with no modifications. Was a little tight around the DEF tank to get the fasteners in. Took a couple hours to get it all done. The measurements were spot on for the cut on the bottom plastic. No issues reassembling.

by:

Excellent product but not for your average weekend warrior. This is a fairly big project. This replaces your bumper. I had to lower the DEF tank because my vehicle is a diesel. The final product is excellent though.

by:

I have purchased 2 different receivers and the both work great and easy to install. Very satisfied with the product!

by:

This hitch DOES fit my 2018 Chevy Equinox Diesel vehicle. The install tech did need to cut some of the bottom/underside of my bumper for the hitch to fit properly, but that was to be expected. Less expensive purchase and install versus the GM version using a GM tech. In total, about $175 savings.

by:

installing it took under an Hour, very easy and clear instructions. Only thing is I wish the chain loop was facing to the sides instead of down. Sometimes they scrape on steep inclines. Overall works great for what I need it for.

by:
2018 GMC Terrain

I love this hitch. It is very solid and you can tell it is high quality. I put it on my GMC Terrain with a diesel engine. The video showing how to install was close to accurate with a few differences since the video was made using another type of vehicle. All in all it worked out. Thanks for a great produce!

by:

I cannot find hitch for my car anywhere else. Nice website, good description of product. Detail information about order stages: submit, package, on the way, delivery expectation. Good people and good service.

by:

The install was more extensive than I had originally thought. But, the instructions were very good!

by:

The hitch I bought Does not work for the gmc 2018 diesel but everything thing else was fine showed up a day early and package was fine

I am wanting to know what you mean about this hitch not fitting your 2018 GMC Terrain Diesel. We have confirmation that this hitch fits, though, it is a pretty difficult install. You will have to temporary remove the bumper, lower the exhaust, permanently remove the bumper beam, temporarily remove the urea tank, and also trim the fascia before putting it back on your vehicle.

  • Does Trailer Hitch for 2020 Chevy Equinox Sit in Same Spot as Factory Hitch
That's a good question, and the answer is that aftermarket hitches for a 2020 Chevy Equinox do sit a little lower than the factory trailer hitches, but not by a whole lot. The aftermarket hitches sit just under the bumper while the OEM hitch is up a little higher. The best trailer hitches for your 2020 Equinox are from Draw-Tite, and the right one will depend on the engine of your Equinox. The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76419 is for NON-diesel engines while the Draw-Tite Trailer...

  • Hitch and 4 Bike Rack Recommendations for 2020 Chevy Equinox
Trunk mount bike racks have their place, but they have several disadvantages. 1) The rear hatch cannot be opened with the rack in place. The struts that hold up the rear hatch are typically rated for the weight of the door, and not much else. Plus, opening and closing the rear hatch will make the rack shift a bit which can scratch the finish of your new vehicle. If the hatch is closed in a less-than-gentle fashion, the rack can dent your hatch. 2) You'll be limited to carrying three...
