Video Transcript for Reese Elite Series Underbed Rail Adapter Review

Today we're going to review part number RP30156. This is the Reese Elite Series Underbed Rail Adapter for standard fifth wheel trailer hitches. This part is designed to work with an already installed Reese Signature Series Fifth Wheel Underbody kit. You can see we have four pucks installed here. You see on this particular vehicle, we have them sit inside of the bed liner as well. Typically you would have to make a large cut out for it.

However in this truck and this part, we we're able to just get away with just four small holes and it sits on top of the bed liner, with plenty of clearance. Once it's assembled, it's very easy to install. Just make sure these handles are pointing towards the center, and when they're locked you can see how this turns facing to the puck that's installed in the truck. Just lay it into place, and then make sure these handles are open all the way, to make sure that it's set into place. Then push the handles in. There should be some resistance as you push it in.

Once it's in place, use the snap rings to help lock it. You could also use your favorite padlock if you want to. When you assemble this, it's a good idea to get access to the jam nut right here to help make sure everything is tightened down properly. The part number for the wrench we're using is 58276. With our Underbed Rail Adapter installed, let's go ahead and put the fifth wheel hitch into place.

After we put our fifth wheel hitch into place, we'll go ahead and install the pins and clips. So our hitch will mount up to our adapter plate just like it would if it had rails already installed in the bed going across. That will finish it for review of part number RP30156 from Reese.

All parts worked well and am very satisfied with installation and performance. The special wrench I bought to tighten the nuts was totally useless. The jaws spread very easily. If not for the wrench, I would have given the service and product a 5 star rating.

Use continues with great results. Only bad comment was on the performance of the wrench.

First of all, I give Etrailer.com 5 Stars as ordering, shipping and support are stellar. The four stars is for this product as it is lightweight for the job it does. I ordered a second one as the first one bent. I understand this may be intentional to prevent over tightening, but I bent one of the prongs on the first nut so I had trouble tightening the other three. New season and fresh install of the Reese puck-to-rail adapter so I got the new wrench for the loosened nuts and successfully tightened them all because I knew not to over do it this time.

by:

Thank you etrailer.com for finding the wrench and bed cover pucks for my signature series Reese 5th wheel , just exactly what I needed.
Repeat customer,

This wrench was the perfect answer to tightening the bolts on my Reese Elite hitch adapter while installed in my 2016 Ford F350 Platinum. etrailer.com was one of very few places that even carried it. Their price was unbeatable. Shipping was very fast. Thanks etrailer.com

by:

The delivery was terrific. We received it in less than a week. Assembly was fairly simple. And we've installed it along with our 5th wheel hitch in our truck. The only problem was the wrench we purchased wasn't made to last. Thanks again

by:

Product needs to be twice as thick, made of stronger material, or configuration could be like a line wrench. Couldn't even loosen nuts on new leg assys. without wrench opening up. Had to disassemble each locking mechanism and use a box end wrench to loosen. Tired of lifting the unit in and out of truck and assembling and disassembling unit to get a good fit.

by:

Good if you don't have a nut too tight, if nut is too tight the wrench slips.
It is good for what it is intended for.

by:

Since it's brand new I haven't yet used the wrench. I did check to make sure it fits my particular hitch and have every expectation that it will work just fine.

by:

Poorly made. The jaws spread on the second nut I adjusted. By the time I finished torquing the 4th foot the wrench was almost unusable. I was being easy on them too. Just stamped out of mild steel with no hardening done to the metal. I don't see any other way to tighten these without this tool though.

by:

etrailer is our go to site for anything we need for our trailers, they are consistent in excellent prices and service

by:

Wrench bent first use, to cheap to get the 1/4 turn on nut, will go to Harbor Freight and buy a cheap wrench, heat it and bend to fit, will last forever

by:

Worked well in the set up. Little loose fitting for my taste. Switched to an adjustable for the final torque. Will carry in the truck for emergencies.

by:

after you snug the 1" jam nut it tells you to go another quarter turn, the wrench I bought bent. maybe they need to make it a box end wrench

excellent

by:

All the questions they answered very helpful and professional thank you

by:

This wrench is the same as a 1-1/2" open end wrench except that it has thinner "jaws" than a standard wrench making access into the restricted space easier. It is probably possible to tighten the nuts with a standard open end wrench but it might not be possible to fully insert a standard wrench over the nut because of the thicker "jaws". It might be an experiment in busting your knuckles if the wrench slips off the nut.

by:

Absolutely terrible product. Reese should be ashamed. The metal is so soft that any attempt to tighten the nuts it is designed to work on bend the jaws of the wrench open. I had to put it in a vice and close the opening back up after each foot I tightened. The worst part is, it's the only tool that will work for the job so your stuck with this or nothing.

by:

Wrench bent first time I used it. Did hit it with a hammer or anything. Tried to loose bolt and top prong bent. Wrench is useless now. I did get it when promised however.

by:

the jaws on the wrench bend the metal in to soft

by:

Thank you for having the right tool

by:

It helped but be careful it will bend

by:

Placing the order was super easy, great price, and my order showed up right on time. Great first time experience.

by:

Works good

by:

Everything was delivered on time.Haven't had time to install yet. Service was great.

by:

I really didn’t care for this wrench, started to widen out and slipping off the nut. A crescent wrench worked better.

by:

works like a champ, quick shipping
