Replacement spanner wrench and hardware for the Ranch Hitch fifth-wheel-to-gooseneck coupler adapter.

I'm not sure it was the tools' fault but 2, 200 lbs. men with an 8-foot bar couldn't break loose the gooseneck adapter from the king pin. We even bent the spanner wrench. I gave up and used my plasma torch to slice it open to remove the adapter. The Mechanic installed it correctly. Found signs of never seize compound on the treads. Spanner wrench might work for other, but not us. I wonder if this adapter can be removed without destroying it.

The second one I ordered
Good product
if you need one. Manufactured by the company that builds the hitches.

Are you the one who originally installed the Ranch Hitch, or did you purchase the 5th wheel with it installed already? I spoke with the folks at Andersen about your difficulties in removing the hitch adapter, and was told that they have never had that happen before. Two men with a 4 foot cheater bar should be able to remove the hitch without too much difficulty unless the previous owner or whoever installed the hitch for you might have spot welded it or bolted it in place without you being aware of it. If you are the one that installed it, and you know for sure there is not any welding or unknown fasteners involved you might have some luck gently and carefully applying heat to the hitch with a torch to get it to expand slightly. This would be what Id consider a last-ditch effort to remove the hitch as heating it could have a negative effect on the composition of the metal and I personally would not feel comfortable reusing it after it was removed.

by:

that spanner wrench that you sent to me does not work, the part that goes in the hole is too big. I don't know if they have different size spanner wrenches or not.

Please keep in mind this spanner wrench is specifically designed for Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapters. It may not work with other brand adapters.

  • Is The Ranch Hitch 5TH Wheel To Gooseneck Adapter Threaded Onto the King Pin?
Yes, the Base # AM3102 for the Ranch Hitch # AM3100 does thread onto the kingpin of your 5th wheel pin box. A Spanner Wrench # AM3104 is used to thread the base on and off the Collar System # AM3110. You may need to spray some break free onto the threads if they have corrosion.

  • How to Remove Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter AM3100
If an adapter like the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100 has been in place on a king pin for a good long time, it will tend to want to stay there. The install instructions (step 4) advise to apply plenty of anti-seize grease to the king pin, the split collets and the threaded collar. This step is to make removal easier. If the adapter has been installed for a very long time this grease, if it was applied initially as recommended, may have solidified....

  • How to Remove # AM3100 Ranch Hitch Universal 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Coupler Adapter
To remove the Ranch Hitch # AM3100, you'd remove the bolts attaching the flange to the pin box. At that point, use a spanner wrench like part # AM3104 to unscrew the adapter base. Once the base comes off, you'll need a slide hammer like part # AM3103 to push up the threaded collar, at which point the split collets will come out. Then the threaded collar can be slipped off the king pin.

  • How to Remove the Ranch Hitch Adapter From a 5th Wheel Trailer King Pin
You are correct, the Ranch Hitch, # 3100, adapter base does thread onto a collar system, see drawing, comprised of a collar and 2 wedges that fit around and into the recessed portion of the trailers king pin. When the adapter is tightened onto the collars system on the king pin the connection is very solid and hard to break. Once the bolts are removed from the trailer pin box, you will need the Spanner Wrench for Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapters, # AM3104, and a 4 foot cheater pipe, along...

  • Removing the Ranch Hitch Adapter # AM3100 From a 5th Wheel Trailer King Pin
Along with the flange bolts, the Ranch Hitch Adapter, # AM3100, should also be screwed onto the king pin with a collar system, see attached photo. Once the bolts are removed from the trailer pin box, you will need the Spanner Wrench for Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapters, # AM3104, and a 4 foot cheater pipe, along with two full grown men to release the the adapter from the threaded collar. Removal of a Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100 is not exactly an easy task. Actually, it will take two strong men with a 4 foot cheater bar. The Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter part # AM3100 is screwed onto the king pin with a collar system. Once you have removed the bolts from the side of the adapter, you need the Spanner Wrench part # AM3104 and a 4 foot cheater pipe to release the adapter from the threaded collar.
