Video Transcript for RoadMaster Motor Home Mounted Tow Bars Release Tool Review

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be checking out the Roadmaster Quick Release Tool for motorhome mounted tow bars. Now many tow bars are going to have a button like this, that you would push down if your bars happen to get into a bind. Well many times that is a lot easier said than done. The last thing you want to do when you get to your campsite is struggle to release your arms and get them out of the bind after you've been driving all night. And that's where our tool would come into play. It's very simple, yet very effective. What we do is take this portion here, and wrap it around the body of our tow bar, and then we use our lever to push down and pinch that button, completely compressing it.

Now typically when would be in a bind, and you use the tool to push it down completely you'd hear a thud, and you can feel the arms release. That tool's going to be made from steel, and you're not going to have to worry about it bending or breaking. That's going to give us more than enough leverage to push that button down to release those stuck arms, and it's going to work with most tow bars. Now since it isn't huge, it's going to be easy to store and keep out of the way too. That will do it for our look at of the Roadmaster Quick Release Tool for motorhome mounted tow bars.

Very helpful device, so much quicker to unhook the car when its not purfectly lined up.

by:

Etrailer aided in the successful completion of towing my Jeep behind my RV. Thanks Erailer for you assistance.

by:

I have not had a chance to use it yet, but hope it works as well as designed. then I won't have to buy a non-binding tow-bar.

by:

The release tool works perfectly, just as described. eTralier is the best company I have ever experienced. All my orders have shipped and been delivered much faster than I expected. They even beat Amazon.

I had to return a base plate and wiring kit because I sold the car. There was no hassle and the refund showed up on my credit card within a few days.

Great work etrailer!

The Roadmaster Falcon 2 tow bar along with the light kit has worked flawlessly for the past year. It is easy to connect and disconnect the car from the motorhome.

by:

Fits perfectly on the older style RoadMaster BlackHawk tow bar that just has a button the extends up when the arms are locked out. It is easier to release button on tow bar arm when there is a little pressure on the arm.

The Roadmaster release tool works great and I consider it a must have tool. I wish I had one when I first bought my BlackHawk tow bar.

by:

Bought this since it was recommended by Roadmaster as a safe way to depress the bar locks. It is simple to use and prevents damage to bar locking mechanism.

I use it infrequently, but when it is needed it works well and prevents damage to the arm locking mechanism.

by:

Arrived on time and as described. Sincerely hoping this releases enough tension to allow me to easily disengage the tow bolts to separate the Toad from our motorhome.

by:

Must have for releasing lock pins that are in a bind, excellent simple design.

by:

Thanks to George J. @ etrailer.com for providing the most fantastic customer service.

This Release Tool is invaluable for motorhome owners w/tow bars made by RoadMaster.

Too bad RoadMaster no longer includes the tool w/towbar installation package.

Thanks again George J. for following up & following thru on this back-ordered item.

Etrailer mounted a baseplate on our CRV and the brake set up. The experience was wonderful. The tech, Rob, gave us a very good demonstration and let us hook it up also. I need a steering dampener and some sway bars, looking at a trip to St Louis. Thanks again

I recently put a RoadMaster Tow Hitch on my 2012 Toyota Corolla. When I went to take it off I was extremely frustrated in that I could not get the pins to release and had the feeling that I had just spent a whole lot of money for a whole lot of aggravation. After a web search I found this tool and etrailer. I used it this past weekend and it is a lifesaver when your tow vehicle is not on a perfectly flat spot. If you have a hitch like the one I purchased do yourself a favor and get this simple tool. You will not be sorry and it is well worth the price. etrailer is a GREAT business to work with.

In additio, I received this in three days and payed the standard shipping fee.

by:

Every now and then when disconnecting the toad from the rv, it's not exactly on level ground or exactly straight, which makes pushing the button on the tow bar almost impossible to release. This tool provides leverage needed to release the button.

Works fine when needed

by:

Do not use the Roadmaster hitch without this tool or you may not be able to unhook your towed vehicle. Roadmaster products might seem expensive but they work well and are less expensive than using the more expensive Blue Ox products a,nd in my opinion, work just as well. Save your money for fuel.

by:

We bought a used RV.
It had a an old
Roadmaster 5250 tow bar. It needed the complete rebuild kit which was not in stock. The reps(I talked with several as I didn't know what to ask the first one) were all helpful and courteous. They found two separate kits which make up the complete kit so I got what I needed. They actually had Roadmaster drop ship one of the kits to me directly.
I also needed the Quick Disconnect bar kit for the 5250. They helped with that also. They also had the 5250 release tool.
They even had the cover for the old Falcon so when I recondition and paint the old bar it will look and stay as new.
Great folks to deal with.
They are close enough in price to the big "A" so the extra couple of bucks is worth it for the expert advice.
Thanks!

I just accidentally happened across this item while searching for tow bar accessories. It is hidden on most websites! After becoming aware of this (after 20 plus years of Roadmaster tow bars) I purchased it. What a concept. I don't know why I never thought of this myself! It is very helpful in releasing the pressure off the tow bar so that it can be unhooked. Especially when you are in a hurry.
P.S. I reserched prices and "etrailer" (as usual) had the best deal.

by:

Fortunately you don't need to use this if you're careful about being on level ground, but sometimes you cannot, and this is a lifesaver. I've used the hammer before but this is much more effective and gives good leverage. Should be included with the tow bar.

ETrailer is the best!

by:

Should work great however shipping was a bit expensive. But we needed it before our trip so it was worth it.

by:

The few times I have used this tool it works great. So much easier to release the tension on your tow bar.

by:

Roadmaster products do not need to be reviewed. They are the best. PERIOD. Well built and the powder coating is uniform and smooth.

by:

Can't live without it if you own a Falcon 2 tow system. E Trailer has always been very responsive and knowledgeable about my neeeds

On the RoadMaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, part # RM-520, usually one of the Autowlok buttons will require more pressure to release. This is the arm that has most of the tension between your motor home and your 2002 Jeep Liberty. If the Autowlok button(s) are hard to release, turn the towed vehicles (Jeep) steering wheel as far as it can go to the left or right, then as far as it can go in the other direction. • Comparing the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain and Falcon 2 Tow Bar
Yes, there will be a difference when using a non-binding tow bar like the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain part # RM-522 and a tow bar without the non-binding feature like the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar part # RM-520 even when using d-ring adapters. The reason for this is that though the connection point is in a different location, the issue with releasing the arms has to do with the vehicle's position in relation to the motorhome. It is uncommon to have a completely level surface on a camp...

The bars can often be difficult to release when you go to disconnect the tow bars from the towed vehicle when you get to your site. There is a difference between the tow bars you mentioned, as there is both a Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 and a Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522; and between the two, the much better option is the Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522. The reason for that is the Falcon All-Terrain is so much easier to use, as it has a non-binding design and you can disconnect with the use of its latches. Yes, the Falcon 2 tow bar # RM-520 is compatible with all Roadmaster base plates including # RM-523184-4 for your 2017 Chevy Equinox. I strongly recommend adding release tool # RM-066 because the Falcon 2 is not a non-binding tow bar and unless you are on perfectly level ground and straight it will be very difficult to release the tow bar arms.
