As many others have mentioned the mounting holes don’t line up and you have to spread it out about an 1”, at least with the one I got. The simplest method I found without scratching the paint was to take my Toyota jack and screw it to a 4x4. There were holes already in the bottom of the jack. Then a piece a wood on the other side and crank the jack. You can dial it precisely in this way like a gentlemen without cursing and bleeding knuckles.

1st package ok, 2nd one which was my trailer hitch was not packaged very well, the box had multiple holes in it, fortunately all the items were still in the box, good product, shipping soso

I own a 2006 Toyota Tundra. Had a TommyGate lift installed and factory one would not work. Only Curt offered one that will work. Purchased it from etrailer and it arrived in a timely manor and in good shape. I installed it and a year later it still looks good, no rust, like the rest of my truck. Truck was purchased in Arizona and shipped to Pennsylvania. Had the truck professionally tut proof from Ziebhart to keep it that way. Very satisfied with purchase of the Curt hitch from etrailer.

2001 Toyota Tundra

This was a perfect replacement for the rusted out hitch I had on my 2001 Toyota Tundra. etrailer.com was extremely helpful. I called them on the phone to verify the fit to the truck and they sent me the hitch the very next day! Every thing went smoothly... WITH a hitch. ;>) I'm glad I climbed under the truck to find this out before towing anything. My trailer wiring was not functioning, so it was serendipitous that I found this out before a potential towing nightmare.

by:
2002 Toyota Tundra

Went on fairly easily, I was actually expecting it to be much more difficult based on other reviews stating bolt holes wouldn't line up. Mine didn't line up either at first, but the metal is fairly flexible and it was easy enough to put one bolt on one side and use a c-clamp to get the other side aligned and install all of the hardware. One hole needs to be drilled on each side, so make sure you have good sharp drill bits before starting; truck frames aren't exactly easy to drill through. Dropping one star because the description explicitly says the hitch won't work with the factory tow bumper, but I decided to try it anyway. I have the factory tow bumper and can't see where there would be any issue. I assumed I would be cutting bumper brackets and coming up with some home-brew solutions, but not necessary. My only hang-up was the nut holding the ball installed in the bumper didn't clear the hitch, but I don't need the ball in the bumper anyway if I have this reciever hitch.

Havent used this product to actually tow anything, so I cant speak to its effectiveness in that area. It has been used to mount a salt spreader during the winter months, and it has held up well to about 400LBS of weight on bumpy roads without an issue.

by:
2002 Toyota Tundra

Product is well made but it was not an easy fit/install. I had to use considerable force with a pry bar to make the holes line up with the holes in my truck frame.

by:
2000 Toyota Tundra

Looks good, feels solid, and fairly easy install. When I received the hitch, the flanges were bent inward and the holes were almost an inch off. Got one bolt in and used a C clamp to bend the metal back over to line up.

Thank you for sending the pictures! It looks that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment which is why the bolt holes are not lining up. This can happen while in transit to our facility or to you. We do have a great FAQ that provides ways to move the brackets back into alignment so the hitch can be installed.

by:
2002 Toyota Tundra

Another great product and experience from etrailer! Only issue was the bolt holes don't line up perfectly from one side to the other. Required a bit of bending to line up.

I received the receiver but not the controller or harness. I'm sure it must have been stolen when in transit as the box appeared it had been opened. When I called etrailer they was sorry and they would refund my money. I had excellent service from them

I was having issues finding a class 3 hitch for my 2006 Tundra with a bumper that was setup for a towing ball. Cathy was able to do some research and found only Curt made a hitch that would mate to my truck. I ordered the hitch and it came in a day early which was even better. Cathy even emailed me to let me know it was delivered.
I had one issue in mounting it. One call to Etrailer and I was able to correct the problem.
If your looking for a supplier who is knowledgeable and cares ETrailer is the company you should be talking.

It has been great, no issues

2005 Toyota Tundra

The trailer hitch unit was bent inward, however, it took many efforts of trying to screw it into the truck brackets to finally figure out it wasn't the wrong fit, it was just bent and therefore, took my father, husband and brother over hr. & 1/2 to put a jack w/2"x4" to pump it outward into the final configuration to fit properly, which took a few tries!!! Needless to say, nobody was happy about it, mostly me, for talking them into helping me with this "supposedly easy" task.

Hi Karon, Thanks for your feedback! The side plates of the trailer hitch are made out of mild steel so that they can flex while towing, reducing the stress put on the hitch and the vehicle. As a result they can flex during shipping, causing issues while installing. I have attached a helpful-article that will help show you how to flex the hitch back into place.

by:

The Hitch Receiver has worked great so far on my 05 Tundra! Like others, I did have to bend the flanges to straighten it out before installing. I borrowed Michaels trick (thanks dude!) by using a jack & blocks of wood. Including straightening, drilling holes & installing, it took me about 2 hours by myself. Well worth the effort, as it was at least 5X cheaper than my local option.

by:

Trailer hitch was just as described. Was pretty easy to install. Shipping was fast. Ordered it on Thursday and was here on Monday.

Works Just like it was made to do. Still looks new.Nice product.

by:
2001 Toyota Tundra

The hitch arrived quickly just as promised. Unfortunately it was a bit out of square (must have bounced a bit on the truck - the box was a bit beat up), but I was able to force it back and it fit like a glove. Easy to install only had to drill two holes. Looks great and is just what I wanted. Fair pricing completed the sale.

I have not had any issues with the hitch in the last year other than someone pulled the pin on it when I was parked at Walmart and the ball went rolling down the highway. Fortunately the road was fairly empty and the only car behind me avoided the bouncing ball. I have since learned to remove the ball as soon as I am done pulling something or use a locking pin.

Toyota Tundra

It’s been a year since purchasing my trailer hitch from etrailer. I probably oversized the assembly as I could see that it will accommodate a heavy travel trailer, more than my 4000 lb boat and 1000 lb trailer require. Regardless, the unit is very well made and the installation on my Toyota Tundra was straight forward and relatively easy. It is a heavy piece of gear so make plans accordingly.

I was so impressed with the ease of installation that I bought a front mount hitch to make parking my 8 1/2 foot boat through a 9 foot opening a breeze.

by:

Hi the quality of the product is very good the only small issue I had was once I removed the factory installed tow bumper the 2 front holes on the trailer hitch
Lined up very good , I installed those bolts first just like the instructions said, but the flange had a slight angle inward so the remaining holes were just a little bit off on alignment with the ones on the frame. All I had to do was place a small bottle jack and a 4x4 in between the flange ends and spread the ends to line the holes up. Then I cut the top of the bracket portion that mounts the bumper to the vehicle from the factory hitch and bolted that back in place to mount the bumper back on and fabricated a few other mounts
All in all a very good product

by:

Received product with flanges bent in. Minimal packaging to protect shipment. Hitch would not align to truck frame. Contacted etrailer, given options to true up flanges or replacement if I couldn't get hitch to align. I used board and jack method to true up flanges, hitch then mounted quickly. Not a deal breaker by any means, just the hassle of "fixing" a new product. Would be nice if receiver mount came with dust cap for users like me with occasional towing use. Light connector was easy plug in.

by:
2001 Toyota Tundra

The price of the hitch was great, and I was glad to purchase one that says it was manufactured in the USA. The finish seems nice and will hopefully hold up well against corrosion.

The fit, however, leaves something to be desired. Like several other reviewers mentioned, the brackets are angles slightly inward, so as you go towards the front the of the truck, the pre-drilled holes in the hitch do not line up with factory hole in the frame. I was able to use a c-clamp for assistant with getting the M12 bolts into the threaded holes but had to switch to a larger clamp to coax the bracket to reach the non-threaded holes farther forward on the truck frame. If Curt wants to market this hitch as a direct fit, they might consider listing a clamp as a required installation tool.

Aside from this, I think that this hitch looks solid and will hopefully give me years of service. Thanks, etrailer for your prompt shipping even during all the COVID-19 related disruptions!

by:

I bought this hitch for my nephew's truck. We had trouble installing it because the rails toed in by 1/2" and the provided metric bolts could not thread into the nutserts in the frame. We were able to put the bolts (grade 8, thank you) in at the end of the trucks frame, closest to the hitch crossbar. Then we got one metric bolt in the frame and had to use a bottle jack and 2ft piece of wood to spread the hitch frame enough to get the other bolt in. This was a dangerous thing to have to do, but it was redneck engineering at it's finest! After that we drilled the frame as per instructions and finished the installation. It came out well, safe and strong.

I am happy with this purchase, install was easy with the help of another person.

After being told by a trailer dealer that there were no hitch receivers available for my 2004 Tundra I found one at e-trailer. It went on easily and has been moving my boat ever since. This was and outstanding value!!!

by:

My trailer hitch arrived very quickly. Everything lined up perfect and only a couple of holes had to be drilled. Very easy to install. Been over a year and I am still enjoying it. Great communication from the company. Thanks a lot

by:

I was particularly impressed that you emailed 2 videos that showed the installation of this trailer hitch on a vehicle exactly same as mine (even the color, coincidentally). I found this very reassuring, and the hitch went on perfectly!

by:
2002 Toyota Tundra

The hitch assembly is standard quality, welds look average. The side brackets were out of alignment, whether due to shipping or manufacturing. I had to"manipulate" the plates in order for the bolt holes to line up. At first I thought I received the wrong hitch. It is now installed and working as designed.
