Recommended Replacement Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2005 Toyota Tundra

Question:

I have a 2005 Tundra with the factory hitch. Ive been towing a camper across the country, and just now found that the hitch has completely rotted out and now is dragging down the bumper with it. Im across the country from my home mechanic and having trouble finding anyone willing to fix this out here. Can I remove the factory hitch and then install an aftermarket? Or do you have other suggestions?

You can remove your factory hitch and install an aftermarket one on your 2005 Toyota Tundra. The factory hitch may be welded in place, and if so you will need to make sure the welded portion won't come in contact with the new hitch location or cut the old hitch off. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13184 for your replacement hitch receiver. I've attached a video of this installation for you to assist in location as well as your installation. This hitch will come with the hardware needed for install and is an installation you can do yourself or you can have an mechanic you trust install it for you. The installation time is rated to take about 30-40 minutes. There is one hole on each side that will require drilling into your frame. I've attached the instructions to assist.
