Installation
This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the connector, locate the "towing fuse" position in your fuse box and insert the included 10-amp fuse.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Pluged into the pre-wired factory tow-package connection. 10amp fuse was sent .. toyota says use 20amp in manual and in fuse box,. used a 15amp fuse,. No drilling factory holes were fine in both the electrical wire run threw hole and hitch installation pre-drilled holes for trailer hitch,.
before ordering check under the hood of your highlander's fuse box to see if it has a tow fuse option/s that tells you if its factory electrical pre-tow plug or not in the back,. look at my photo's of the wireing and hitch,. get the hitch that loops below the muffler,. also it depends on the year of the highlander,.
Receive product in record time. Took longer to get myself in gear. From start to finish, removing trim as per your video, unplugging original harness, installing your product, reinstalling trim, may have taken 20 to 25 minutes. That includes using a rubber body plug to route wiring to a permanant wire mount at the hitch instead of harness out the hatch when needed.
We installed this on my 2006 Highlander Hybrid in about 20 minutes. It took 20 because we are stupid. It really only takes about 10 minutes. #WellDone eTrailer. Both my hitch and harness are from you and are perfect!
The item was well packed when arrived, was very easy to install and set up, video on the page was very helpful and you can see that not only is a good quality but good looking too.
Instructions provided with adapter are good. My 04 Highlander without tow package had the connector under rear, driver-side cargo tray. Lift the cargo floor, remove the tire-change-tool tray, remove the two plastic nuts on the bottom of the left-side tub, and lift it out. Also under that storage tub is an unused 6mm threaded hole in the body to be used for the ground. Put a fuse in the correct spot of engine compartment fuse block (mine was empty) and good to go. See underside of fuse block lid for tow adapter fuse placement.

Used 20 times this summer with no issues. I would buy again.
I was very pleased with the perfect match and plug-and-play aspects of this connector.
The unit which I replaced had fuses in each of the leads for lights (running and left/right function). Since the leads in your unit were not similarly fused, which seemed like a good idea, I just cut off the wires heading to the trailer plug from the black box, and retained my original wiring with fuses from that point onward.

It must be functioning perfectly, because I havent given it a second thought. I like functioning perfectly, and have high expectations it will contiue to do so.
worked great - had uhaul originally do wiring - it was a mess. they had run a wire under car to battery when power was already in back with factory installed harness. The wiring harness I bought at etrailer fit perfect and was installed by me in 10 minutes or less. and was $100 dollars cheeper than uhaul. Thanks !

It has worked perfect- no complaints.
Anthony took me through everything I needed to fix an inoperative unit that had been previously installed. The etrailer video showed me everything else I needed. In hind sight I should have gotten the 4/7 pin unit since when I picked up my rental it was a 7 pin. I picked up a 7 adapter on site and was on the road. Thanks Anthony!

Works great, been dragging our trailer for 5 months.
Connected and worked with no problem. Was not sure if my highlande highbrid had the tow package but after some research i discovered that all highlander hybrids come with a tow package even if it does not have the trailer hitch receiver

We have not had any issues a year later.
Dianna was able to answer all of my questions, especially my concern about the hitch being compatible with a full sized spare tire, which it was. the hitch was installed and in use with a bike rack within hours of delivery. Just what we needed.
Ordered this Toyota highlander trailer tow harness. I've been it using for over a year. It came in a timely manner, installed easily, and performs well. It is well thought out, in that it installs easily, did not have to get under the car at all to install. No special tools required. The trailer led is long enough to directly connect to either of my two trailers. (a small camper pop up, and a small 4x8 utility trailer. The led just lays in the rear tool compartment out of the way when not in use. The led simply goes under the rear hatch door when in use.
Easy install 15 minutes start to finish including running electrical. Has worked out well.
Sanitary fits perfectly fit and finish better than OEM

Still good just ordered new hitch and wiring kit for another vehicle
My first purchase from etrailer and I couldn't be more pleased. The wiring kit for my Highlander ( 06) went together without a hitch, and best of all, worked perfectly. I was lucky enough to have AngelaK on the other end and she was most helpful with my order. I hung up feeling good about the whole thing. I've already recommended etrailer to my son who was having trouble with the 4way on his Tacoma.
The kit was very easy to install. I like that the trailer electrical connector is hidden inside the highlander side panel when not in use. Only takes a second to access and route through the hatch door when needed.
Excellent plug and play adapter. Took a second to find the right wiring harness to plug into but then it went great! works seamlessly and stows cleanly away in the cargo area hidden storage. awesome product.
I highly endorse this product. Super easy to install (2007 Toyota Highlander) and made my life ten times easier. Had to haul a trailer full of film equipment 3 hours up to Vermont and back with 6 college students in the car. Worked beautifully to and from. Need to upgrade the harness on my Subaru Outback sometime soon. I know where I'm buying it from.
Ordering with etrailer was super helpful. I was adding a hitch to an older model highlander and e trailer staff were awesome at getting back to me by phone and emailing links to make sure I got exactly what I needed. The wiring harness fits just as advertised and works great. Very fast communication from etrailer when the original part number that I ordered was on back order. They saw the problem and suggested an alternate part that was available to ship immediately within just a few hours of my online order.
After troubleshooting why my trailer lights were not working, I discovered that the power module on my 2007 Toyota Highlander was bad. I searched the net and found etrailer.com, found a replacement wiring harness and ordered it. The harness arrived quicker than I expected and I was able to remove the old harness and replace with the new with no problems. The new harness works great! I'm back on the road with my bass boat lookin' for that lunker.
Very nice products - loved the fabrication and powder-coating of the hitch. Shipped promptly, good on-line tracking information. Good prices. Good instructions. It only took about an hour to install the hitch and wiring harness.
Only possible improvements might be to omit the purchase order label stuck to the hitch. It was tough to get off. The installation took a little longer because I had to run to the parts store as part of the installation was to purchase three plastic one-time fasteners that Toyota uses to cover the fuse panel.
