How to Install a Fully Functioning 7-Way Connector on a 2005 Toyota Highlander

Question:

Is there any wiring harness that will allow a 2005 Highlander to operate trailer brakes, ie, a 7 pin connector?

Yes there is!

If you do not already have a 4-Pole connector on your 2005 Toyota Highlander you will need to install the Tekonsha part # 118248 if you have the factory tow package or part # 118413 if you do not have the factory tow package. I have attached installation videos that you can follow for both products.

From there you will need to install the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 along with a brake controller. The # ETBC7 will simply plug into the existing 4-Pole connector at the rear of your Highlander and then you will run the included wiring up to the brake controller and then the battery via circuit breaker to give yourself a fully-functioning 7-Way.

If you do not already have a brake controller I highly recommend going with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 as it is easy to install and easy to use due to its LED screen. I have attached a video of the ETBC7 kit and the Prodigy P3 being installed on a 2010 Toyota Highlander that you can use as a reference.

I have also attached a helpful article that goes over the steps to installing the ETBC7 as well.
