This receiver is designed to fit frames that are 42" wide to the outside of the frame rails. The top of the mounting plate is 9" above the top of the crossmember. A trailer hitch mount cargo carrier would be a good choice to carry your 185 pound generator. You will need one that fits the trailer hitch on the vehicle and that has the size and capacity to hold the generator.

I went to the warehouse and measured the distance between the holes on the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System, part # RP66084. I have attached a photo of the shank with the head attached that has the dimensions noted.
