Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Fits neatly under back bumper and doesn't stand out like older types of bolt on hitch receivers. Installation was easy enough. I see a small spot of rust already after the first week which is disappointing.

@JustinE Awesome, thanks for checking in!

2014 Ford Explorer

Works perfectly. Install took about 2 hours due to the rusted parts needing to be removed (northern state). After that took maybe 20 minutes to get it into place. The install paper was a little hard to see because of copy of a copy look. But the install video gave a good indepth view.

by:

Fit great! Works like its suppose to. Easy to install with a second person to hold it up while you get the bolts in. Had a good paint finish. Only negative was that it was scratched up during packing in my opinion. I'm a mud and gravel road guy so it wasn't a big deal but for those who keep their cars clean it was visible after installation. etrailer gets 5 stars!!

by:

Awesome product super easy to install highly recommend product. Directions were spot on. One tip I have is to use a floor jack to support the exhaust system rather than a tie off quicker to drop and raise the exhaust.

This trailer hitch has been a great addition to my Ford Explorer SUV. It's built very well and hasn't given me any problems since day one.

My trailer hitch has performed flawlessly on my Ford Explorer and in some way added value to my vehicle. Im glad I made this purchase.

by:

So far so good. I haven't put a max load on it yet, but have hauled a trailer full of furniture and used a baggage extension. A little challenging to install, but there are videos online to help if you search.

by:

No trouble with installation and wiring was almost as easy. I would get another hitch here in a heartbeat.

by:

Purchased this hitch used, it was in nearly new condition. This is the second hitch I’ve purchased from etrailer ( another vehicle). Quality products, great customer service, instructions are clear enough with pictures. The hardest part is fishing the carriage bolt through the frame, but it eventually will fall into place. I installed on my driveway by myself with the help of my floor jack. Highly recommend this company and their products.

The video was a big help.
Hitch and kit
were complete and everything fit perfectly.

by:

My wife found your video on U Tube. After my review we ordered the hitch and trailer lighting harness. Great hitch with all required parts to easily install with common tools. Quality parts built to last! Many Thanks!

My sons and I installed the trailer hitch last year. Towing our box trailer to second home several states away without any issues. Quality built product made to last! Thank you!

2014 Honda CR-V

Everything about this trailer hitch receiver was excellent from the customer service, purchase, on-time delivery, installation instructions and the installation process. Did have to make one run to Home Depot to purchase the right size socket, but that is on me, not etrailer. The fit up to my 2017 Ford Explorer is factory perfect as shown in the photo. Thank you etrailer.

by:

Trailer hitch arrived quickly and install video was excellent. The hardest part was lowering the exhaust from the hangers I chose the eTrailer hitch because of the powder black coating instead of the glossy black. You can see that the hitch is barely noticeable and fits tightly under the bumper! My lab Riley also digs it!
Thanks!

Been looking for a diy trailer hitch package for a long time. Was recommended by a friend to etrailer, and you guys didn't disappoint! Being able to select the right setup for my 2013 Explorer was a piece of cake--the price was right, shipping was fast, and installation was easy. I'm a pretty slow diy guy, it took me about 2 hours with all hand tools and a couple of breaks (like I said, I take my time when I'm doing it on my own for myself). Thank you etrailer- easy to recommend a good, customer-minded company like you to others!

Good place to buy aftermarket parts

by:
2013 Ford Explorer

etrailer.com is the best. Great hitch, great price and excellent installation videos. Hitch and wiring harness were shipped same day ordered and received the next day. I installed both the hitch and harness in less than an hour. No power tools or lift were used. I put the rear tires of the 2013 Explorer on ramps and had plenty of room. Hold the exhaust up using a wheeled floor jack or strap between the springs and you can move the exhaust and use it to hold the hitch while you get it bolted to the frame. I installed the hitch by myself.

by:
2013 Ford Explorer

Everything fit great. The wire and bolt design to get the bolt to reverse drop in the frame was great ... Took a little finagling but got it eventually :) The hardest part was getting the muffler clamps off. I went out and bought a tool for it and made quick work of it. The next step is to plug in the wire kit I just ordered

by:

The prep work of removing the old hangers took about 30 +/- mins. The drivers side hanger was completely different than the video that suggested that both sides were the same. It had some kind of tow hook and required a third bolt to be removed once I realized the whole unit needed to be removed. The rest of the installation followed the video very nicely. The finished product looked as promised by etrailer. I would recommend this product to anyone.

by:

Yesterday i got the chance to install the trailer hitch, this thing is great, fits well very good quality plug n play not a difficult job to do would recommend to everybody! Thanks etrailer!

2019 Ford Explorer

Videos made it easy to install. Installed in less than an hour. Follow the steps exactly as video shows. Sockets have to be in metric measurements. Don’t try and used SAE size sockets. They will not work on factory bolts to remove brackets.

by:

This is the second hitch I bought from eteailer.great service fast shipping wouldn’t buy from anyone else. As for the hitch the install it was easy took about 30 minutes on my 2016 Ford Explorer 4x4.. Any one should be able to do it.I’am a 71 year old retired mechanic.

by:

The trailer hitch was everything as advertised. Install was smooth, and finished product is exactly what I expected. Would recommend.

by:

The hitch fit perfect. It took about a hour to install

  • Comparing Trailer Hitches for a 2013 Ford Explorer
The trailer hitch I recommend for a 2013 Ford Explorer is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76034 because it offers the highest weight capacity therefore will be most durable. The other two options (Curt and etrailer) are virtually the same aside from the lower weight capacity so there is really not much compare/contrast. I will however say that the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98867 has a matte finish which will blend in with the vehicle more so than the...

The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98867 is the correct receiver for your 2018 Ford Explorer. This class III 2" receiver is rated for 400lbs of tongue weight and a trailer weight of 4,000lbs. With a weight distribution hitch capacities increase to 500lbs of tongue weight and 5,000lbs trailer weight. The wiring is where things can be confusing. The Saris Bones Hitch 3 Bike Rack part # SA883 will work just fine on a 2019 Ford Explorer. If you don't already have a trailer hitch, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98867 is what I recommend which is a bolt-on fit. The Saris Bones is an excellent option and you will able to tilt the rack away from the vehicle to get into the hatch and fold the arms down while not in use. I would however add the Hitch Tite Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock part # SA3022 for security.

  • Is There a 1-1/4" Pintle Hitch With 2" Ball To Fit On a 2016 Ford Explorer?
With pintle hitch trailers typically being a very high weight they do not offer one for a 1-1/4" receiver due to the light duty capacity of the small receiver. I do see you input your vehicle as a 2016 Ford Explorer which we do offer a 2" Receiver # e98867 for. This would allow you to use a B&W Tow & Stow Pintle Hook with 2" Ball # BWTS10055. The etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98867 is only a fit for a 2011 - 2019 Ford Explorer.
