Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look and installing the Hopkins seven-way as well as five-flat and four-flat on a 2017 Thor Siesta. Now, this is a great option to upgrade from your previous seven-pole not only because you can get a nice plug that goes up 180 degrees, which this one being in an angle makes a lot easier to get our plug in. Whereas our previous one, you can see it doesn't quite open up as much so you're kind of at a downward angle. It's hard to see if it's actually attached. And this one also has two handles here to make it easy.
But the great part too is you're no longer stuck with just a seven pole. You also have a five flat as well as a four flat down here. So you can still get those lighting functions whether you're hooking up to your seven or your four flat and you can actually do both. So our neighbor here today is flat towing his vehicle but he also has a bike rack that has lights on it so he can plug his four pole in here and it's gonna work on both of them. What's nice about this kit is it's going to be a pretty simple installation because it comes with a bracket to mount up or has already had that so we didn't have to use it.
But it also comes with the mounting hardware here and it also comes with terminal grease. So you can get that dielectric protection on your plug. Now you are gonna just be tying it in just as you would your old seven way. It's pretty easy. And once you have that wired up, you'll have the combination of the four five flat as well as that seven pole.
So whatever you want to hook up to as far as trailer you're gonna be ready to go. Now the first step is going to be removing our old just seven way plug and it's gonna be different from vehicle to vehicle. Ours just has a Phillips head screwdriver with a nine millimeter nut on the back. So we're gonna go ahead, get this taken out. There should be four of 'em generally mounting up and this is gonna allow us to get to those wires and be able to work on this a little bit easier to get our new plug on.
Now once you've exposed your wires you're gonna go ahead and cut them off and leave enough to where we can make our attachment point to our new plug now. Now before removing your old plug you may wanna denote where each of your wires are going. Maybe take a photo picture for reference and you're gonna put your new plug there and plug it in the same. Now ours has our little reference here on the cap, and some of them do and some of 'em won't. So just to have a little bit to back you up when you put your new one on. Again, suggest taking a picture and then just put those in the same way. So basically you just don't want to go color to color because if I put my green to here, it's not necessarily gonna be correct. You want to make sure that's in the proper position that your old plug was. Another thing you're gonna wanna make sure that you do before cutting your wires is disconnect your battery because you can have 12 volt power going through these and you don't want to arc with your wires making contact with one another. Now I've gone and trimmed back our insulation enough to slide this over and you can see this is where our wires are gonna pass through. And this little screw here is just gonna tighten up and cinch up, creating a nice almost water tight seal. So you're gonna wanna back that out to make sure that you have space and just pass your wires through. And you can slide this back a little bit so you have a little more room to work. And then we're gonna go ahead and start stripping our wires back and making our connections to our plug. So make sure that you slide this over. If you have a split bracket like this you're gonna wanna make sure obviously that you can get it into the bracket before hooking it up. So I'm just gonna go ahead, tighten this down and I can probably move this a little bit later if I have to. But for now, this will hold this in place for me. Now if you don't have a bracket, it does come with one. Ours obviously is welded on to our hitch but your bracket's gonna look like this and it comes with the hardware to mount it up. You can simply get a bracket that zip ties onto this if you need an extension down. But really you can just take a self tapping screw and drill this into your hitch or wherever you're planning on mounting and it's gonna create a nice spot for you. And you can see here, this is where you're gonna be able to pass your wires through. Now we also have this cap here and this is gonna snap onto this one here. And this is also a good way to kind of just put this in place so we can feed our wires through and then just snap this on and that's gonna hold it in our bracket for us. And this just lines up you're gonna see that there's two flat spots or indents here on our plug and this should just slide over and snap in place. Now it does have an indent here and that's gonna match this bottom portion here where our four and five pole are. So you can go ahead and just align that however you want but we're gonna make our connections. So just make sure that we'll be able to twist this back into position before mounting it up. You'll go ahead and just tighten this down. Just making sure that you don't have any wires that are frayed out and you don't have to get too tight here, just make it snug. They should be able to hold itself like that. Now, once we have them all attached what we're gonna do is go ahead and be able to make sure that we can slide this in and you're better to loosen this up. You don't want to have all your wires kind of putting stress on those connections made. So just to be able to slide this down. Now we're not gonna completely put it on there because we do wanna put our dielectric grease which is included. So we're just gonna open this up. And this just kind of protects from moisture buildup and just creating any long term issues with our plug. It's just gonna be a little added protection here so you can, it comes with two packs. Go ahead and just go heavy on this. So all of your connections, just try to get that coated in there, nice and heavy. Now at this point, we got our dielectric in there. This is able to close up. I'm gonna go ahead and tighten this down, and that way it's gonna kind of seal up that entrance where our wires pass through. Now I'm also going to take a lit, a roll of electrical tape and just wrap this up that way it's a nice watertight seal long term. This is up to you but might as well just for that added protection. So now we can go ahead and get our hardware installed. And on the front of the plug there's actually a hex molded in. So we can go ahead, pass our bolt through and that should sit flush in there. So then we're gonna follow it up with a flat washer and then a split washer and then our nut. And then to tighten all this down it's gonna be a 3/8 inch socket wrench. So I'm gonna get these all started and then tighten these down. And we don't really have to get too tight here just enough to kind of compress that split washer to tighten down. But again, this is a plastic plug so we don't want to crack it. Now that we have everything tightened down this is ready to go. We just need to test to make sure that it works. And I'm using a seven pole tester here. Now we have these available here at etrailer. The other option is obviously hooking it up to either your towed vehicle or a trailer. So now we're gonna go ahead, run through the light sequence to make sure that it's all working. So I'll start off with my running lights. Next, I'll do my left turn signal, my right turn signal and then also my brakes. And that was a look and installation of the Hopkins seven way five flat as well as four flat trailer wiring connection on a 2017 Thor Siesta..

The cover is also easy to open and extra-durable.Installed the Hopkins muti-tow 7, 5, and 4 way flat connector this morning. I ripped the original connector that was attached to the bottom of the hitch receiver off when I was 4-wheeling into the Doll House campgrounds in the Maze District of Canyonlands a month ago. So, I cut a hole in the bumper and mounted the new Hopkins connector, cut off the old broken connector mounting bracket, and connected the factory wiring to the new Hopkins device. Hopkins product installed easily, looks great, is now out of the way, and has the flexibility of multiple trailer connectors when required.

Exactly what we had been looking for. Now I can hook up multiple trailers with different connectors and all the electrics on each trailer works. I mounted mine directly to the receiver hitch frame. The biggest challenge for us was routing the backup wire from the taillight housing, through the body of the truck to the connector. the rest went together fairly easily. Seems to be pretty solid and looks much better than the loose pigtail connector it replaced.
This is a Great product ! I built a trailer tester which is self powered and pretty much self explanatory on the way it operates. Using this connector gives the flexibility or connecting to a 4,5 or 7 way plug !
I received the product quickly and in perfect condition the packing was excellant. I installed the connector easily and quickly. I consulted the Gm wiring diagram and als found the wires for all the 7 connections. I had a tight spot within the bumper edge, but managed to find short bolts to attach the bracket in old exsisting holes. The rest was easy attaching the connectors and making sure all wires were through the rear enclosure and tightening them down. I tested the 4 wire connector with my boat trailer lights and it worked like it was designed to do. I LOVE the versatility of this connector. Thanks etrailer.com!! Great product at a great price.

Installation of the plug was a quick and easy. The existing Warrior hitch has a tab on the side for a trailer wiring socket. Drill a new hole on the installation bracket (comes with the trailer connector) so the bracket on the hitch matches bracket on the trailer connector. Done deal. This is the only trailer connector I found which has the 7, 5 and 4 connector options. Flexibility is always a good idea when you are borrowing someone else trailer or renting.

I had broken my factor connector on my 06 Tacoma, frankly due to a poor design placement by Toyota in my opinion, however I was not going to pay a premium $200+ price for a new OEM part and I wasn't planning to place it back in the original spot to only get broken again. This is a great replacement plus I no longer need a wire adapter. The unit fit perfectly in pre-cut hole that held my left tag light. Only had to drill 4 small holes for the bolts to secure to the bumper. Only pain was cutting the old wire and attaching it to the new connector, but that only took 10 minutes top.
This Hopkins 7,5, and 4-way trailer cord socket was delivered quickly and fits my needs for all my trailers. It came with all fasteners and complete instructions in the package and etrailer videos. I recommend this product and etrailer.com as a vendor.

This seems to be a pretty nice plug. Makes it nice with the 4 way and 7 all in one. The lid has a pretty stout spring on it so it should keep the weather out. Fast shipping excellent service.
Build quality seems better than the base Hopkins product I had used before. Installed it in a mounting box (18159) on my Curt round tube hitch.
The connector interfaces very well with my XC90 and there is no drilling or advanced skills needed. Everything went together very well.

I could not find a 7 round with a 5 flat connector anywhere in San Diego. Most of the people I spoke with at trailer shops or RV stores said no one makes it only with a 4 flat connector. I just kept looking because I needed one with a 5 flat for my boat and didn't want to keep using my adaptor.
I found etrailer and the rep I spoke with was very knowledgeable and said he had exactly what I was looking for and it was a great price. I will be always using etrailer for my trailer parts for now on.

It's a connector!
We got this connector to wire our small teardrop with an RV 7-blade for underway charging and reverse lights. It's well built, seals well when not in use, and does its job just fine. We did not lube the contacts, but so far no visible corrosion. The 4/5 flat connector is a nice bonus - keeps us from needing to carry along an adapter.
If you're installing it in a new location there are two things to remember: make sure you have enough depth at the installation point to allow wiring to run clear, and use a REAL bimetal hole saw if you're installing it in a metal bumper.
Would use again.
This plug is awesome! Using the bottom 5 pin plug on the bottom plug works great on my utility Trl, the other plug I have wired for my other trailer with brakes, it definitely works great with no adapter's no matter what the trailer on mine I'm pulling, would definitely recommend this if you need a great plug!
This receptacle should come standard on all pickups and SUVs!! The seals keep out almost all of the water and grime. The spring-loaded cover acts as somewhat of a keeper for whatever plug is inserted in the large receptacle. The versatility of hooking up to old and new boat trailers, plus any equipment trailer the local rental yard can throw at me, is amazing! I still carry a couple of adapters, but never need them. Installation takes about 15 minutes. Be sure to use the included terminal grease.
Very rugged device, good design. This alleviates having a 4 or 5 wire connection hanging from your vehicle. Great for replacement of old connector. Great for DIY

It is still working great. I would highly recommend this product.
The Trailer plugin was a replacement for a cheaper one, that was mounted below the bumper, next to the tow hitch. This one is mounted in the bumper, between the license plate lamp and the license plate, out of the way of being damaged. Great plugin. ( but drilling the bumper was a pain, but worth every bit of time). This is my third order from E-trailer. Great Service and looking forward to my next order.
