Replacement Vehicle and Trailer Connectors and Wiring Guide by Function

I tore off my plug in for trailer wiring harness crossing a creek. I am ready to install another, however, I need to know what each color wire, i.e., red, yellow, black, white, green, blue, light brown goes to please

No problem. We can help you with a new vehicle-side or trailer-side connector for your 7-way trailer wiring setup. To help I linked an article and photo that show you the usual function-to-pin configuration for 7-ways. Note you always want to wire by function, NOT by wire color since colors can vary. You can use a tester like # PTW2992 to determine what function each vehicle wire carries. The linked video demonstrates use of the tester.

For a replacement 7-way vehicle-side socket you can use # HM48470 which is a multi-tow type that has 7-way and also 4-pole and 5-pole connection options built in. It has screw terminals to make your connections.

For a trailer-side 7-way plug you can use a product like the junction box # HS381-9000. This has a 7-way plug and cord and inside the box are posts for making wiring connections using ring terminals # 44-5310A.
