Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Wiring Adapters - 47525 Review

Today we're going to be reviewing part number HM47525. This is the Hopkins Adapter 7-Pole to 6-Pole. Got the 7-pole on this side and then over here it's going to convert it for 6-pole. These indicators here on the front face, these are going to be your LED testers. The Adapter is going to convert your 7-pole plug on the vehicle to a 6-pole plug to fit your trailer's connector. It's going to come with this dust cap that goes over the connection points there when the connector's not in use. They way it keeps corrosion and dirt and moisture from getting access to those connection points. It's going to have the function testing LEDs.

This is going to provide a built-in trouble shooting system, so it's going to let you know that everything's operating correctly and if not, which areas to address. On this unit the center pin is set up as the hot lead but that can easily be changed to work with trailers that have the center pin wired as the brake. To change the function all you have to do is remove the screws. There's going to be one located on each side here and then you have two right here and then switch the black and blue wires. Pretty simple. Once you take this apart, it exposes all the wires on the inside and allows for an easy change if needed.

Again, it's got that dust cap on there to protect the connection points. When installing this you want to locate the wires and pin location by function only. Color coding is not standard among all manufacturers so definitely keep that in mind when installing this system. Taking a measurement of the overall length. Measuring from edge to edge, looks like it's going to measure about 4 inches. Again, this end is going to be end that plugs into connector on your vehicle.

On the other end you're going to have the 6-Pole connection point. Also on the face here for the tester, it has little symbols that are going to signify the codes. You have LT, TM, RT and EB. LT stands for left turn. TM is the taillight function.

RT is your right turn. Then EB is for the electric brakes. That's going to do it for our review of part number HM47525. This is the Hopkins Adapter 7-Pole to 6-Pole with the LED tester. .

  • Setting Up a 1999 Ford F-350 To Tow Trailers with 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-Way Connectors
There are adapters for stepping trailer connectors down like going from a 7-Way to a 6-Way, but going the other way requires extra wiring. The simplest way for you to set up your truck to be able to tow 7,6,5 and 4-Way trailer connectors is to start with a 7-Way and use adapters when necessary. Fortunately, the 99-01 Super Duty trucks from Ford are pre-wired to support all 7 functions and there is a simple plug and play 7-Way that will get your truck set up with a fully functional 7-Way...

  • Electric Brakes Lock When Connected to Vehicle And Breakaway Battery Is Powered
It sounds to me as if you have the breakaway wired incorrectly. When the switch is installed in the breakaway there should be no power going out on the brake feed circuit (blue wire). The breakaway should be wired as follows. White wire should be ground. Black wire should go from the 6-Way trailer connector to the breakaway battery positive terminal to charge the battery. Blue wire leaving the breakaway battery should go to the breakaway switch. The blue wire leaving the breakaway switch...

  • Brake Controller Causing Trailer Brakes to Lock Up
It sounds as if something is wired incorrectly. Which trailer connector is on your truck? A 7 way? A 6 way? Are you using a 6 to 7 way adapter? If so, there are two accepted ways of wiring a 6 way plug. If your adapter uses the center pin for the 12V lead, and the trailer uses the center pin for the brake lead, there is your problem. We offer an adapter that is universal. It can be easily changed to work with either configuration. If this is not the case, please reply and we will look...

  • Troubleshooting a 2010 F-150 SuperCrew with Internal Brake Controller not Working
Since the trailer brakes are working with another vehicle, the trailer wiring is eliminated as a source for the issue. The first thing I would check is the adapter you are using. Trace the power wires for the trailer brakes back to the trailer connector to determine which terminal is the brake feed circuit. Once this is determined check the adapter to see if it is wired correctly to transfer the brake power from your vehicle to the trailer brakes. There are two different acceptable wiring...

If you have the Hopkins # 47549 that you referred to in your question you should be able to open up the adapter and repin the two wires to swap the function. Since there are two standards of wiring a 6-way in the market they made this feature available to do. If you would prefer to just purchase a 7-way blade to 6 pole adapter that is already prewired for your type of horse trailer you will need the Hopkins # 47525. Another really neat option is the Hopkins # HM47570, this adapter lets...
