What Wheels and Tires Will Be Under 102" Wide On 95" 7K Trailer Axle

Question:

I am building a custom trailer, I am considering using E95GR 7K axles with 95inch hub face width. I understand the maximum legal width for a trailer is 102. Your listing for the ST235/80R16 tire on a 16x6 wheel with 0 offset shows a section width of 9.25. If that is correct that puts the overall width of the axle assembly with tires at 104.25. What is the recommended tire/wheel combination to use with this axle to maintain the 7k rating and keep it within the legal width?

In regards to a trailer axle with 95" hub face like the Trailer Axle Beam part # e95GR, you'll likely need to use offset wheels and narrow tire to stay under the 102" max trailer width. The best we could get is 103.3" using the the Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel part # AM20766 and Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire part # LHWL401. If you switch to the Trailer Axle Beam part # e35GR you can get down to 102.3" which should not get you into any legal trouble.

If you don't already have your brakes and hubs/drums picked out I recommend the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 8-219-4UC3-EZ and Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # 23-464-465.
