The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The circuit board is sealed, which means that water will not damage the diodes or circuit board.
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.
Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Today we are going to show you Petersons Piranha LED small trailer clearance light, part number 168A. This light utilizes two LEDs. It is built around a two wire design, meaning that one wire will be used for electrical ground and the other for our power. It is designed to flush mount against your trailer surface using mounting holes that are 1-15/16 inches on center. Next we will hook up the light to a power supply so you can see how it looks. Take the white wire and connect it to our electrical ground and the other wire will be our power. Next we will turn off the overhead lights so you can see how bright the light is. These lights were the perfect brightness, very rugged, and easy to install inside protected areas of the frame on the updated raft trailer. etrailer has great selection, the website makes it easy to find the best parts for the job, and their communication is excellent. Their videos and reviews are invaluable.
Purchased these side marker lights specifically because they have two wires rather than just a positive wire and the ground attached to the mounting grommet.
Lights were easy to mount and with rubber gasket they are protected from vibration.
Always seem to have the lighting products I am looking for.
I had lights similar to these as markers on my old trailer, and was looking to find similar for the front markers on my Avalanche. NIce and small, bright as can be, fully sealed behind, and I think they cost less than before !

One year on, they are still as bright as ever
I used four of these sealed led lights to replace the clearance lights that came on my Shorelander boat trailer. The hole spacing fit the existing holes and the lights have held up very well to over 100 launches and recoveries in salt water. I recommend them.
All the products have been great. They were installed on an older livestock trailer and they just keeping going. The white LED lights we put on the inside work too good. When I first pulled them out I thought they were too small and would do the job. They are so good we rarely use the one up front because the back one does such a great job.

3/15/2013 Item 168A - Just the right size light I was looking for to use as a side marker for a motorcycle cargo trailer. Well built product. I used with its black base (B168-18) that fit well also. LED lighting excellent. Just great to deal with etrailer folks.

All lights are working! Made one important change due to use in salt water. I ran all ground wires to the front of my boat trailer, so that the ground wire connections to the trailer would not be submerged when launching and retrieving my boat.
