Peterson Piranha LED Small Trailer Clearance Light # 168R Recommendation for a 2001 Dodge Truck

Question:

Is the Peterson 168R / 168A really polarity sensitive? Im considering doing a quick and dirty side marker / turn on my 01 Dodge truck pinch weld and camper low body. Ive had it suggested that connecting both wires to power running lights / turns will give me running lights and blinkers. Im planning ~20 lights. Is there a better product to fit my needs?

On this Peterson Piranha LED Small Trailer Clearance Light # 168A that you referenced there are two wires for this unit. The yellow wire will be the power wire, whereas the white wire will be the ground wire. In order for this light to illuminate it will need power and a ground to complete the circuit. If you attach power to both of the wires it will not illuminate. You will want to find the rear tail light circuit and tap into that circuit using a Circuit Tester Kit # 40376 to first find the correct wire, and then use a Quick Splice Locks # 34466000-5 to splice into the wire.

Next, you will want to find a suitable ground for the white wire on your 2001 Dodge truck, I would recommend using a clean, metal surface either on the body or the frame of your vehicle.

Since you are looking for a turn/brake light you would want a lens that is red for the stop function otherwise it would not be a legal stop indicator.

I would recommend using the red LED version of this light. You would want a Peterson Piranha LED Small Trailer Clearance Light # 168R.
