The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number MCL55RCB. This is the Optronics round LED trailer clearance or side marker light. The round light is going to feature red diodes with a clear lens. It's going to feature a sealed, waterproof design when it comes to the housing and the lens unit. It's going to contain three diodes, or three LEDs. LEDs are going to make great replacements for incandescent lights.
They're going to last longer, burn brighter, and they're going to be much more efficient. With LED systems, you don't have to worry about replacing the bulbs, and you don't have to worry about brittle filaments. Here on the back side, you can see here that it's got the two-prong connection. This is designed to accept industry standard two-pronged plug. It makes it very simple to upgrade from incandescent lights. Its also going to require a mounting grommet or a mounting bracket as well as the plug for a complete installation.
Those items are sold separately and can be found right here on our website. If we take a look at the overall dimensions, starting with the diameter, it's going to give us a diameter of about two inches and then a depth, including the plug at the back, is going to be about one inch deep. If we just measure the thickness or the depth of the lens, we're looking at about three quarters of an inch. The power draw for this light is going to be 0.06 amps at 12.8 volts, and Optronics is going to put a lifetime warranty on the LEDs. We're going to go and hook it up to our external power source. That way you can see what it looks like with power running to it. Simply just take our two-prong plug, snap it into place here at the back.
It's going to create a nice, tight seal. You can see here that the clear lens allows a lot of light to come through. Again, it's going to contain three LEDs, so it's really going to optimize our light output for a strong, consistent LED signal. That's going to do it for today's review of part number MCL55RCB. Had a couple lights go out on my 2016 trailer these were a perfect match. They work great and if I ever need to replace any others I will be coming back for more. It’s been a year now and still no issues.
