Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

Having never replaced a leaf spring before I decided to go ahead and give it a shot on my own. I reviewed the information on etrailer.com and found the replacement parts without a problem. Once they arrived I removed the old worn leaf springs and replaced them without much trouble at all. Back to safe trailering. Thanks etrailer for the help.

I purchased the 3000# axle springs and all mounting hardware to replace the old ones on my 1963 travel trailer. My trailer no longer leans to the left and goes down the road better than new. I should have done it many year ago. I received my package on time and installation was easy and fit perfect. Thanks Bridget

I completed construction of a mobile bandsaw mill and found the springs on the mobile home axle I used were much to strong. I believe they were rated for 6,000 pounds and did not flex with the light load of the bandsaw mill. The SP-210275 were a perfect fit for my need. Shipping was very quick and other than needing to purchase longer "U" bolts, I was able to simply remove the old springs and bolt the new springs right into place. Very satisfied with this purchase and installation.

Good shipping quick and quality product

Super fast shipping great part

by:

I discovered that I needed to fit the holes in the bottom of my axle onto the studs on the springs before tightening the hardware fastening the springs to the rear shackles and front hangers.

by:

The spring arrived earlier than I thought it would. Looks like it will fit and do the job. I purchased the leaf spring as an emergency back up in case on breaks on the Trailer. E Trailer hasn't let me down.

by:

With the outstanding help from Tommy at etrailer.com, I was able to purchase the right axle, hubs, spring and tires the first time. Everything arrived in good condition, went together like a dream. I was impressed with the quality of product and service.

by:

Great description of part. It was exactly what i needed. Arrived earlier than expected and i really appreciated being informed throughout the shipping process. This is my go to site from now on. Thank you very much.

Hello,I would like to say I am very satisfied with etrailer.com shipping was fast, price was great, now I'm ready to go catch them bass .

by:

The product was correct but the ordering was next to imposible. It took weeks longer than necessary. It wasn't until I was refered to Mgmt. that my order was resolved, gratefully. All in all the 2 day project took 3 weeks. Still upset a year later.

Product has worked just fine and hasn’t broken after using for a year. It has been loaded most of the time.

by:

Great product! My first purchase from etrailer but it won't be my last! etrailer seems to have everything you would need for your RV or trailer. Waited until the last minute to pick up an extra leaf spring for my trip to Alaska. Fast shipping got it here in plenty of time. Thanks!

Great service. I know that I needed to do something to my trailer but I had no idea where or how to get the right parts Everything was too rusty to find any part numbers. I sent them a few pictures and gave them the measurement that they asked for and in about 30 mins I had a complete parts list of what I needed. When I got the parts everything was correct and fit great. Will defiantly be ordering from them again. Preston, and Jessica B were very helpful....

I rebuilt my little 5x8 utility trailer with parts from you guys and its been holding strong. Thanks for all the help. I went into this build without knowing much about suspension and you guys were a big help at getting the right parts.

by:

All Parts arrived as ordered and their quality and type is as expected, thank you.

However, I would suggest better packaging when shipping leaf springs. The loose nature of the packaging seems to have caused the leaf springs to puncture the box causing a 2 day delay in shipping and the potential loss of my other items.

Great. Theyve been under the boat and holding it up just fine

Very fast free shipping

by:

The springs arrived quickly and they were an exact fit. Installed in about 1 1/2 hrs. Thank you very much

by:

Replaced a older set on a trailer with no specs. Bought the length closest to what I had, but a higher weight capacity. Replaced the axle to a 3500 lb one too. Have more confidence in the trailer now and I know it's a lot safer. How do these compare to others? I don't know. It's very hard to find these things locally and few sites have as good videos as etailer. These guys seem to know their stuff. There was lots of specs on these items at this website so I felt confident planning and executing the trailer upgrade.

by:

It was the perfect size and fit right up. I bought it for my 1963 2 horse trailer with random axels and it worked great. Thank you.

Have never bought from this store before . The parts were here quickly and the customer service was great right parts the first time. I will have to see how the parts hold up before I can say how good the quality is

Well the trailer has a boat on it and I havent had time to do any thing with the boat but the parts are all install.. Did that some time ago they fit perfect but havent moved the trailer ..It is definately good products

Leaf springs fit perfectly and are of good quality. As usual eTrailer ships quickly.

I appreciate your follow up. I no longer have the trailer I bought the parts for. I, however, was very pleased with the quality of the parts while I had it. I have replaced that trailer with another one and don’t doubt that sooner or later I will be needing something for it that I will return to etrailer for.

by:

Thank you etrailer!

The shipment
arrived sooner than expected, the leaf springs along with a hanger kit arrived in a heavy duty box with very good packaging. As for the leaf springs they're heavy duty thicker gauge compared to the ones currently on my utility trailer. With beefing up my suspension I'll be able to raise my box and carry a heavier load with my current axle.

by:

Well, I just got the parts, so can't say anything reliable on chinese made parts.
The price was(is) Great! a boat load cheaper then the local store....humm.

springs fit perfectly, however, the springs I wanted are no longer being offered, could of had springs made but I went with the less$isMore theory. (more in my pocket)

The "white" nylon bushings I ordered would not fit into the equalizers, but the grey colored ones I had did fit perfectly, just a-hair difference in outer diameter.

The bolts fit perfectly as well.

It is always 10 times easier dealing with eTrailer then the local store, So I know eTrailer has put a lot of time into making it easy for their customers, Thanks!

Very Fast shipping, all at a price I can afford!

  • Leaf Spring Recommendation to Replace 27 inch Long Spring on Camper with 1,500 lb Trailer Weight
Length-wise the leaf spring part # SP-210275 that you referenced is about right at 27 inches. Since your trailer only weighs 1,500 lbs though this is going to give you a somewhat rough ride quality. A better option would be # e77SR most likely as it has a 2,000 lb axle weight rating and is 26 inches long. I know that's an inch shorter than what you listed, but leaf springs stretch out over time as they wear out so your 27 inch springs were most likely a bit shorter when new like this spring.

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for Dump Trailer with 3500-lb Axle
If your 10-foot dump trailer was made with a 3500-lb axle you cannot double its weight capacity just by swapping out the leaf springs to higher-rated ones. Any trailer's rated weight capacity depends on all of the component parts used to fabricate it. These include the trailer frame, the dump bed itself, the axle and suspension and even the specific hubs, wheels and tires on it. Changing one of these components to another with a higher rating does NOT mean that the entire trailer now has...

  • Suspension Solution for Trailer with 3,500 lb Axles to Smooth Out Ride Quality
Longer springs really aren't going to smooth your ride quality out a noticeable amount. Trailer suspension is typically pretty bouncy or rough due to the fact that there is no shock on the springs to dampen or slow the movement of the suspension. The solution for that is a shock kit like the part # LC281255 which is designed to fit 2-3/8 inch diameter axles like what are commonly used for 3,500 lb axles.

From the info I was able to find on the number you listed you do have a Dexter 3,500 lb axle so for a leaf spring you would want the # e54SR for if you need a 25-1/8 inch spring or # SP-210275 if you need a 27 inch leaf spring.

  • Leaf Spring Recommendations for 3,500 lb Trailer Axles
Ideally you match the leaf spring's axle capacity with the axle capacity of the trailer. So since you have 3,500 lb axles you would want 3,500 lb axle leaf springs. Typically the springs are all rated for the capacity when used in a pair. We have three that will fit that capacity that are varying lengths. We have the part # e54SR which is 25-1/8 inches long, # SP-210275 which is 27 inches long, and # e59SR which is 23-1/8 inches long.

The brake flange-to-flange distance is 82-5/8 inches. The axle has 10 inch x 2-1/4 inch brake drum dimensions and a 5 on 4-1/2 inch wheel bolt pattern. This will accommodate 13 to 15 inch diameter wheels. Based on the measurements you provided, this will work well for you. This axle comes with brakes, hubs, drums, bearings, races,...

  • Is There an Advantage to Going to a Higher Rated Leaf Spring with a 3,500 lb Trailer Axle
There really wouldn't be a benefit. It would unnecessarily stiffen up the suspension. You still would be limited by the 3,500 axle capacity so you wouldn't gain any capacity while increasing the stiffness of the trailer suspension. Best option is to stick with 3,500 lb leaf springs. For 3,500 lb springs we have the part # SP-210275 for a 27 inch long spring, part # e54SR for a 25-1/8 inch spring, or part # e59SR for a 23-1/8 inch long spring.

  • What Would Cause Boat Trailer Leaf Spring to Flatten Out
It's possible the weight of your trailer and boat is more than the capacity of the leaf springs you installed which is causing them to fail. Most 20 ft pontoon boats weigh around 2,200 lbs so it's very likely with the weight of your boat and the weight of the trailer you are exceeding that figure. So your best option is a new set of springs that are rated higher than the weight of the boat and trailer. The weight capacity figure is more important than matching the lengths as you can move...
