Leaf Spring Recommendation for 3,500 lb Axle on Trailer for Converting from Slipper to Double Eye

Question:

I have a boat trailer with a gtw rating of 3500 lbs. It has open eyed leaf springs hook or reverse curve type with four leaves and is 1-3/4inch wide. The distance between the bolt holes of the front and rear hangers measures 26inch and the length of the springs is about 26-1/4. Can I use closed eye springs as replacements and if so, which springs would be appropriate and what length shackles would you recommend? Main problem that I forsee is that the rear hangers are too wide for shackles and would probably need to be replaced.

Sounds like you are trying to convert your trailer from slipper springs to double-eye springs. This is possible but will require you to install new rear hangers for the rear eye of the spring to attach.

You would need to go with a leaf spring that is rated for the weight of your trailer when it is loaded an ready to go.

The closest leaf spring we have in terms of dimensions that is for a 3,500 lb axle is the part # SP-210275. This spring is 27 inches long.

For the price an convenience you would also just want to use the single axle hanger kit part # APS1 to get everything needed to mount the springs.
