A trailer jack is designed to lift the tongue of your trailer so you can connect the trailer coupler to your hitch ball. To do this, you'll need a jack with a lift capacity high enough to handle your trailer's tongue weight.
Tongue weight is the amount of weight that your trailer applies to the back of your tow vehicle. Typically, your tongue weight should be 10-15% of your total trailer weight (trailer + cargo). In other words, a 10,000-lb trailer would have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. For a trailer this size, you would need a jack with a lift capacity of at least 1,500 lbs.
It's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher lift capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time camping.
Every jack offers a certain amount of lift or travel. Screw travel is the distance the jack extends when you crank it (or toggle it to "extend" on an electric model). Some jacks include a drop leg for extra adjustability. On these jacks, you'll see the maximum extension of the drop leg listed in the specs as well. Adding the screw travel and drop leg travel together will give you the total lift. The total lift listed above can help you determine how high this jack will be able to raise your trailer.

Comes with footplate.I am very happy with this tongue jack. I took off my old one and installed this in about 10 minutes. It operates so smoothly and is so nice-looking and the handle very comfortable. It will be nice to use a drill on those 96 degree or 10 degree days when I don't feel like hand cranking. And the removable handle will make it easier to open my tailgate. Delivery was quick too.
I struggled with a decision to purchase an electric version which I originally had. Now I don't have worries of draining the battery, wiring shorts and relying on the battery to lift. Having drill assist with this model clinched the deal. I haven't used it camping yet but did a few test runs with my truck and it works great. I really like the various mounting holes for positioning the crank. I decided to put the crank directly in the front so I can access from either side of the hitch. Fit and finish seems excellent. I think I'll be happy with my decision.

I just commented to my wife on our last camping trip how happy I was to make the decision to purchase this style of hitch jack from Etrailer. Works so well using my cordless drill and also manually. Since I pack the cordless drill in our trailer for using it our stablizer pads I always have it. And it actually seems to raise and lower the hitch faster than a standard electric jack. It was a great choice.
It arrived today, just got done installing it.
Installed on my 26' Vintage Outlaw race car trailer.
This piece is beefy, feels really well made, made my original factory installed top crank, manual jack feel like a toy holding them one in each hand.
The new Trailer Valet Installed in seconds, took me longer to get the jack stands and tools.
I tried it with both the manual crank handle and the drill attachment.
The manual crank handle is pretty short, not much leverage, but still seems to require less effort than my super basic factory manual one. The internal gearing is pretty complimentary.
The drill attachment is very slick. Its a great idea.
Works really well using my 18v Milwaukee drill.
The design of this jack also has the top part (that faces up at the rain) a solid piece of metal, so water, ice, snow doesnt want to just run right down into the mechanicals all year long like a basic top crank jack does.
That flat solid piece of metal on top was a good idea.
The crank comes out parallel to the ground and unlike the basic models the factories install it has a grease fitting for servicing.
The slotted base plate allows you to rotate it to multiple orientations.
I currently have it facing straight forward. We will see how that works out.
The only offending thing about the whole thing is that it would have been so, so, SO easy for them to just make the tang for the drill attachment a standard size like 5/8 or 3/4 hex, or 16 - 17mm.
Instead they machined it to be some proprietary size that requires you to use their then proprietary socket attachment.
That almost offended me once I saw it in hand how simple it would have been for them to make it something "standard". Its still bordering on annoying me that they did not go with a standard hex size.
Other than that rant, it seems great. All jacks should be built this well.
I look forward to using it going forward and I'll post updates here as I get to use it more.

Still very good, I think I made the right choice, as I stated in my original review I wish they did not have the goofy proprietary drill adapter. Drills do not have much torque and it really loads even an 18V Milaukee drill down alot to raise the trailer up to connect to the ball. It would be much better if they had an adapter for something more hi torque like an impact gun or maybe it could just use more gear reduction internally. I also think the supplied hand crank could also be a little larger for more lever arm. My trailer is a 26 enclosed car trailer, fully populated with cabinets and spares, etc so maybe its a little larger than what they intended. I have not discounted that my trailer might be on the heavier side of the design intent. Its really only going up that requires a little work. Going down is easy and fast. Other than that its been a quality unit and I am pretty happy with my purchase.

I use the same drill for running the stabilizers up and down. In total, it saves me a lot of cranking.
I like the grease fitting, that enables me to keep it running smooth and prolong the life of the jack.
I had high hopes for this jack and it did not disappoint. We wanted a powered jack option without depending upon a trailer battery always installed and charged. A standard 20 volt cordless drill raises and lowers our 29' travel trailer using this jack.
Installation was a breeze.
I just installed the jack the original Bulldog jack is a year old but I need the space to mount a toolbox to be used for multiple tie-downs. I have a question: I purchase this Trailer Valet JXC Trailer Jack w/ Footplate and Drill Powered Option - A-Frame - Sidewind - 5K
It has a zerk fitting next to the gear box to grease the top of the jack how much grease and how often do you add grease ? Does it grease the top gears and rod and lift nut ?
The Pro Series Round 5,000 lbs. A-Frame Trailer Jack Topwind 15" Lift w/ 6" Steel Caster Wheel & 2" Zinc Footplate Stand has a steel wheel thats rated for 5,000lbs do you have a Steel Wheel for a Trailer Valet 5,000 rated jack ?

You had some good questions and so I reached out to Trailer Valet about greasing the gears. To grease the gears, the gearbox must be opened and grease applied directly. The rod and lift nut will be greased via the grease zerk. It is recommended to grease the jack every three months or so. As for the caster wheels, part # TV89FR will work with these Trailer Valet jacks.

I installed the new Trailer Valet JXC Trailer Jack w Footplate and Drill Powered Option - A-Frame - Sidewind - 5K and removed the 1-year-old bulldog jack. The new Sidewind jack gave me room to install a toolbox for tie-downs and straps that will be used to keep the side-by-side secure on the utility trailer. The sidewinder crank also helped with the location of the toolbox. Was able to move the box forward to access the emergency brake battery box in the original location from the trailer manufacturer. With the toolbox in place was able to add a solar panel to keep the emergency brake battery charged. See the pic as to all of the items that were added to the 22ft trailer.
This is the only replacement trailer jacks I will use. Currently I have them on both of my 24 foot trailers.
Trailer Valet JXC Jack works well. We had to alter the A-frame on the 1967 Airstream to allow clearance for the mounting tube. Overall, jack works fine. We did not want to replace with electric jack as they go out and then it is a pain to lower trailer onto hitch. This may manual will always be ready to operate. Thanks for a satisfactory replacement.

Arrived in good condition,easy to install, works great with hand crank or with drill. It's well made& doesn't wobble like the old original one did.
Great replacement for the aging trailer jack on my camper. Fit perfectly, easy to install. Works great with either my power drill or with the manual crank.

Still works great after a year. Great investment.
First off I have to give props to etrailer. They have never let me down and they are my go to. Have ordered many things and not one mess up and the trailer jack is great to. On my set up it took my 16 yr old about 10 minutes to switch out. Brand new trailer so we were working with rusty bolts. I have been using my cordless drill to lift and lower my trailers for years. I normally would just modify the existing jack to work with drill but for the price what the heck. Nice looking has nice size foot. Like the chuck and handle. The only thing that I would change and this has nothing to do with etrailer but the jack itself. I would make where the handle/chuck attaches (nipple) be recessed into the top portion of the unit. This would add a little bit of security (along with coupler lock) to the jack so if the handle is not attached it would not be as easy to put a pipe wrench or jam a socket onto the nipple and lower the tongue on to a receiver. That's just a mod I would make to the jack if I was the manufacturer. Great jack though.

Jack is working working great as it did from day 1. 6 months out of the year that jack is raised and lowered 6 days a week. No complaints yet and dont foresee any either. To follow up on my previous review I havent figured out a way to secure the jack nipple but I have increased the security of the trailer by putting the jack in its lowest position once the coupler lock is installed. Too heavy to pick tongue up by hand and would be cumbersome at best to raise jack leg with a hand tool of some sort and then have to get coupler lock off. Im pretty sure they would move on to and easier target...
The jack works great. Quick with a healthy cordless drill with low and high range settings. I gained access to the top gears and made sure everything was well greased. The grease fitting helps too. Bottom line; best trailer jack I have used yet.
Use in my car trailer love it year later no rust on jack!! Use drill attachment more often than not and still jacks up and down as smooth as day one. Very impressed!
So I have had shoulder surgery 2 years ago and I’m always afraid of reinjurning my shoulder. So I bought this jack and it’s the best thing that I ever bought for my snowmobile trailer. I’m in the market for a new boat and I will make sure that I get another for the boat trailer.
The jack is great with one huge exception. The bushing holding the drive shaft wore out very quickly, so there is a lot of play in the shaft and I have to press the shaft forward/backwards with the drill to compensate and keep the shaft centered. This has to lead to wear/tear on the drill over time.
Really really love this landing gear! Easy to use and wow it looks good Improved the look of an older travel trailer.
Easy to raise and lower with cordless drill.
With no handle I can fully open and close the tailgate with the trailer attached.
With no handle it make it more difficult for thieves.
I fully recommend this product.

I just use my battery powered drill to raise or lower the trailer. Very easy and fast.
It works great, makes lifting my heavy 28 foot enclosed trailer very easy.
A year after installing and it's still clearly the best trailer jack I've ever owned and/or operated. I'll never buy anything else and several friends liked it so much, they replaced their jack with the same.
Funny thing is I fixed the old one just before this one came in but decided to install it anyways. I am really glad I did....the drill option is totally awesome! The finish on this gives it such a quality feel and look...even the footplate is thicker and has a larger pin that my other one. I really considered electric but since I use a drill for my levelers, this just makes it cool and my drill makes fast work or lowering and raising. While it would be nice if the crank had a 3/4 drive on it, I think it would be difficult to lose the proprietary one that came with it. I put a few rounds of red electrical tape around it to make it easier to see if I drop it in the grass. I like how the crank itself removes so easily too. Really glad I chose this.

Over the past year, we have used the camper well over a dozen times and I have yet to use the crank. My 12 cordless dewalt 18V makes quicks work of lowering and raising. I like that with those off, you get some added security to go along with my ball lock. Would certainly buy this in the future should the need arise.
This is a minimalistic take on a powered tongue jack.
Benefits: (1) Cheaper than a self-contained unit. (2) No worries about tailgate clearance (and no worries about having to take apart the jack/turn it for clearance.) (3) No need to be hooked up to truck wiring to operate.
Concerns: (1) Not all of my battery-powered drills had the torque to drive the jack. No "cheap-out" drills need apply. (2) Along those lines, be aware that a firm grip and reasonably strong hands are required.
Bottom line: I would buy it again--but don't expect to need to :)
Good product and installed quickly and I like the fact you can remove the handle. One thing I learned is you will need a good heavy duty drill to use this under any load. While it is great running the jack up or down with no load, once it is under load my drill started to get hot and smoke.
