Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub-and-drum assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs and drums undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Hub for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Will the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # TASR5200S03 Work for a Saltwater Application
Yes, the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System, part # TASR5200S03, will work well for a saltwater boat trailer application. The spindles are compatible with these bearings: Bearings - 25580 inner/15123 or # LM67048 outer Seal inner diameter - 2.250 inches You can find these bearings and seal in the bearing kit # BK3-100. If you are needing a new hub and drum assembly that will work with these spindles then I recommend using the Dexter Galvanized Trailer Hub/Drum Assembly # 8-201-51UC3-EZ....

  • Will a 2-1/8 Inch Grease Seal Fit in Place of a 2-1/4 Inch Grease Seal for Hub # 8-201-51UC3-EZ
The 2-1/4 and 2-1/8 grease seals are usually interchangeable but manufacturers have started going to the 2-1/8 model for a tighter fit. So what you would need is # GS-2125DL for one seal or # RG06-090 for a pair. We can't swap the seals out of a kit though so they would need to be purchased separately. the other option is to use regular hub and drum # 8-201-9UC3-EZ. It isn't galvanized but does come with the 2-1/8 inch seal.

  • Will 6k Dexter Hub & Drum Fit on 7k Dexter Drop Axle
Yep, the two are indeed compatible. You were right on about the hub bearing, since it has the same inner diameter, it will fit the 7k axle. So you can use the following together: - Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with 4" Drop E-Z Lube Spindles - 7,000 lbs # 8327872 - Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 6,000 lbs # 8-201-51UC3-EZ Please note that you will need to abide by the lowest-rated component of your set up, which is the 6,000 lbs of the hubs. I also wanted to mention that if you need...

  • Which Hub/Drum Assembly Will Work With Timbren Axle-Less Assembly # ASR35HDS02
The Dexter Trailer Hub/Drum Assembly, part # 8-219-50UC3 has part # 14125A outer bearing included and does not have the # 15123. This assembly is designed for 5,200-lb, 6,000-lb, and 7,000-lb axles, and will work with 12 inch x 2 inch electric and hydraulic brake assemblies. This also has an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern. None of the hub and drum assemblies we offer with an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern use a 15123 outer bearing. The Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension, part # ASR35HDS02...

  • What Hubs Fit Spindle # TRU57FR
The spindle part # TRU57FR would fit idler hubs like part # 42655UC1 or brake/drums like part # 8-201-51UC3-EZ. Both of these have a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. I attached a link to a page that has hubs that fit this spindle for you to check out as well.

  • Dexter Axle Hub Conversion for 14.5 Inch or 15 Inch Wheels on Equipment Trailer
Thanks for the information on your trailer. For your axle with brakes I recommend the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb and 6,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 12" - 6 on 5-1/2 # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K if you have the spindles with the integrated grease zerk. If you have standard spindles, I recommend # AKHD-655-6-K which have the standard grease cap instead. These assemblies will fit perfectly with your axles based on the bearing and seal information you gave as well as 14.5 inch wheels. Then...

  • How Tight Should Spindle Nut be on Trailer Hub
When our installers replace a trailer hub, there isn't a set torque spec used when tightening the spindle nut. The hub is placed on the spindle, making sure the inner and outer bearings are correctly seated. The spindle nut is then run down until you start feeling resistance. At that point, spin the hub and check for end play (wobble). If the hub still seems a bit loose, you can run the nut down a bit more. As you'll see in the video I've linked to, tightening the nut is something you'll...

  • Recommended Compatible Hubs for Use with Timbren Off-Road Suspension System ASR35HDS02
In order to use 6-on-5-1/2-inch bolt pattern hubs on a Timbren axle-less suspension system those hubs will have to use the same bearing set as the hubs intended for that system. In the Timbren system # ASR35HDS02, for example, which has 4-inches of lift and is rated for 3500-lbs and off-road tires, the bearing set is inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 15123. We do offer idler hubs and hub/drums in the 6-on-5-1/2-inch bolt pattern that you can see by clicking on the link provided....

  • Recommended Replacement Trailer Brakes, Brake Drums and Hydraulic Coupler for Boat Trailer
The Timbren Axle-Less suspension system you mentioned is compatible with the brake hub/drum # 8-201-51UC3-EZ and the # T4489500 right hand and # T4489600 left hand free backing brake assemblies. The brake drums are galvanized and the brake assemblies have a Galphorite plating for corrosion protection. The brake drum has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch wheel bolt pattern. It sounds like you're interested in a hydraulic or surge coupler. I'd recommend the Dexter Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator, part # 099-175-00...

  • What is the Outer Diameter of the Center Hub Bore for Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-201-51UC3-EZ
The outer diameter of the center hub bore on hub and drum assembly # 8-201-51UC3-EZ is approximately 3-3/4 inches. Most trailer wheels center using the lug nuts though and not the hub. That means that the wheel pilot hole can be larger just not smaller.

  • Recommended Replacement Axles For Tandem Axle Boat Trailer
As long as the frame itself can handle the additional weight, you would need to upgrade all of the other components under that weight capacity including the coupler. I recommend using the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension - Spindle Only - Regular Tires - 5200 lbs # ASR5200S01. This will allow your to simply remove the existing suspension and axles and add a cross beam or add a piece of 2x3 inch tubing between the axles in the integrated holes. With these spindles, you can use the Trailer...
