Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Seals that came on the new drums were not the correct inner diameter so they didn’t seal to the axle shaft. Grease was slung all over the brand new brake shoes making them useless and in need of new brake shoes. These were the break drums the etrailer website selected for my trailer.

I see that the inner seal diameter is 2.25 inches. The seals that are included in these kits are configured through standard sizes based off of the axle size you have. Do you by any chance have the number on your original grease seal? This may be helpful in finding the correct size seals for you.

The installation was simple as the etrailer experts said... just take your time and follow the videos. The drums installed well and the bearings took some time to grease up but in the end it worked perfectly. Here are some pictures.

I needed to upgrade my boat trailer from free-wheeling spindles to electric brakes because my new tow vehicle has a 5,000 pound tow rating only if the trailer has brakes. I selected the galvanized hub and drum assembly because the brakes will be immersed in fresh water when launching the boat and I want to maximize the rust and corrosion resistance. These drums are solid, heavy construction. After packing the bearings with marine grade grease I installed the hub and drum assemblies, torqued the axle nut and adjusted the brake tension. These are excellent quality brake drums.

After one year these hub and drum assemblies are working perfectly. There is no rust or corrosion. When cleaning and regreasing the bearings there was no noticeable wear on the bearings or races. With the Curt Echo brake controller I am getting smooth and strong braking.

I converted the surge brakes on my boat trailer to electric. These galvanized hiubs worked great.

by:

Very happy with the service.

by:

Good value, arrived quickly using the standard free shipping in spite of the significant weight, inner bearing races already pressed in, zinc plating looks adequate to reduce rusting, fit my axles perfectly

by:

Again, extremely awesome process and products! Thank you!

  • How To Find Correct Replacement 6-Lug Hubs for Boat Trailer
I have a few options for you to help with identifying the hubs on your trailer. The first and easiest method would be to crawl under the trailer and look for the axle tag on the beam. This should give an axle capacity which we can then use to find the bearings based off industry standards. For example, a 6,000 lb axle uses a 25580 inner and 15123 outer bearing like what comes with the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-655-6-G-K. The other option would be to take the hubs off the...

  • Torque Spec to Use for Lug Nuts of Trailer Hub # AKHD-655-6-G-K
Hey Kirby, you'd want to torque the lug nuts of the trailer hub part # AKHD-655-6-G-K to 90-120 ft lbs of torque.

  • How Important is it to Clean Grease off of Trailer Brake Assemblies/Drums
Hey Kirby, that really will depend on whether there was oil on any of the components. If there was any oil it's going to be a struggle to try and get it to clean itself and you may end up ruining the brake pads to point they never give you full performance. If there basically was no oil you'd be fine.

  • Correct Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 1994 Four Winns Boat Trailer with 4,740 Lb GAWR
The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-655-6-G-K should work just fine on a 1994 Four Winns Boat Trailer with 25580 and 15123 bearings. I would however confirm the grease seal GS2250DL (2.250") is correct as there is another commonly used, part # GS-2125DL (2.1250"). The #42 type spindle is just a classification used to help sort bearings.

  • Hubs and Electric Brake Assemblies for M1010A2 Military Trailer
The etrailer.com Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K referenced in your question is designed for 5,200 or 6,000 pound axles. The weight capacity of the hub itself (for a single hub) is 3,000 pounds. As long as your current hubs use the # 25580 inner bearing and # 15123 outer bearing this hub will work great as a replacement. The hub has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. I am not sure what you mean by searching for a more durable hub. This particular unit does feature a sturdy...

  • Are Trailer Brake Assemblies Side-Specific
Brake assemblies are definitely side specific. If you put the wrong brake assembly on the wrong side of the trailer, the brakes won't work correctly, and could cause the trailer to jackknife. Brake Drums like the # AKHD-655-6-G-K you'd mentioned aren't side specific. For the # AKHD-655-6-G-K brake drums you'd asked about, for electric brakes I'd recommend the # AKEBRK-7-SA self adjusting brake assemblies. After 20 or 25 braking events (best done in a big parking lot) the brakes will be...

  • Galvanized 6 Lug Trailer Hub For a Spindle With 2.125 Grease Seal and 1.75/1.25 Bearing Sizes
If you are only needing an idler hub we have the DeeMaxx # DE96VR which you will need to combine with the Bearings # 25580, # 15123, Grease Seal # GS-2125DL and either a standard Grease Cap # F001520 or EZ Lube Cap # DC250L-DCRP. For a hub/drum assembly we have either the EZ Lube Hub/Drum # AKHD-655-6-G-EZ-K or Standard Hub/Drum # AKHD-655-6-G-K. Both of these will require you to switch the grease seal to the Seal # GS-2125DL which fits your spindle.
