The videos and printed instructions were a great help. The receiver fit my 2012 Prius perfectly, I mounted the Thule bike rack, my bike, and rolled down the Interstate rock steady.

I will recommend eTrailer to my fellow bike clubbers.

I purchase two different products and installed both, back to back. I did not use a jack or a lift, so it took about 45 minutes to finesse this one into/onto my Toyota Prius. I needed a helper (wife) which made it much easier. This is for a bike rack. Ordered Friday and delivered Monday, fast, fast. Thank you.

It has performed as my intended use. I have only used this for attaching a bicycle rack and holding 2 bicycles.

Love it! This trailer hitch allows an upright bike rack to attach, with the addition of an adapter, to our hatchback style Prius. It is much sturdier than our old bike rack that leaned against the hatch window. The trailer hitch/bike rack combo allows us to get into the hatch without removing the rack. We travelled across Florida and back, 300 miles, with no problems. Your website was very helpful in determining the proper hitch and installation was easy. Thank you for a great product at a good price.

Still great! Thanks for following up. Not many companies do that. Great customer service.

I bought this hitch after watching the online videos by etrailer detailing the installation. They make it look a lot easier to install than my experience, but i was not using a lift and had never done it before. The price on this hitch was very good and it was shipped very quickly. It beat the tools that I ordered from another online retailer to do the install, in fact. The packaging was good as well, and protected the hitch. I included a picture of my installation, which admittedly does not show very much, but its a win for me. The hardest part of installation was dealing with the exhaust bracket. I plan on purchasing a bike rack and a cargo rack in the near future, maybe even a small trailer.

After a year there has been absolutely no problems with the hitch. My plans of cargo racks and trailers were derailed due to the crazy year 2020, but I did purchase an Allen Sports 2-Bike Hitch Rack. The hitch holds the very heavy bike rack heavier loaded very securely with little to no wobble just using the locking hitch pin I also bought. I have no complaints about the hitch.

I installed it in 15 minutes with good video and instructions that are provided. Mounting tabs lined up perfectly to OEM holes using their upgraded bolts and washers.
Received it in 3 days after they sent me shipping confirmation and tracking number.
They should tape foam on the mounting tabs to prevent damage and puncturing through the box.
I like how it tucks up and hardly noticeable.

is this a lowered prius?

Sundeep

8/1/2015

Hey Victor, were you able to do it at home or did you need a raised platform?

John it is not a lowered Prius, but with the tucked-up hitch, it gives it that look.

Victor Y.

8/4/2015

Sundeep I did it at work in the parking lot, I use the box to set the hitch on then pushed it under the rear and held it up with one arm while the other was threading in their supplied bolts.

Super easy to install and did it in about 45 mins without lifting the vehicle. Don't recommend that but show's you how simple both the hitch design and the Prius (2015) design is. Instructions provided is simple to follow and video links on the website helped.

Etrailer pointed me to the correct hitch for my vehicle. The hitch arrived very quickly. I used Etrailer recommended installer ABG Fabrication and Jim and his crew were awesome. This hitch works perfectly for the bike rack on my 2013 prius. A very good experience all the way around! Thank you etrailer & ABG!

After using this custom fit trailer hitch reciever for one year, I am loving it! It was easy to install and it has done exactly what I needed it to do and more! I also bought my vehicle specific trailer light wiring harness which was easy to install as well and continues to work great! I would definitely recommend both of these products!

by:

Everything fit as advertised without any alterations. It appears strong and handled my bike rack for Ebikes just fine. Good company to work with.

by:
2012 ToyotaPrius

Installs easily and fits as advertised. I had the 2” receiver first and it was not possible to install in my 2012 Prius. Stick to the 1.25 and you’ll be set.

by:

The hitch is great. Super strong and it has never loosened or worried me driving with a loaded bike rack on many miles of dirt and gravel roads. Highly recommend upgrading to a hitch if you were previously using a clip-on roof rack like me to carry bikes, which can be shaken loose on rough roads or high winds. Installation was straight forward after you find the right bolts to take out.

by:

The service from eTrailer and the price is always the best around. This is the fifth hitch I have ordered from them and it has always been a great experience. The only issue I have had is that two of the hitches got dropped in shipping and bent. Unfortunately you can't tell it until the bolt holes don't line up under the car. In both cases I was able to simply use a floor jack to spread the ends back the 1/4 inch needed, but it just adds some annoyance. I love eTrailer prices and their service!

by:

This hitch appears to be a much higher quality hitch/receiver than the U Haul one I bought for my minivan several years ago. I had some help with the installation with auto-tech students from where I teach because it is much easier to install it from a lift. If you are handy, you might be able to install it yourself using jack stands.

2015 ToyotaPrius

Purchased this for my "new" 2015 Prius and I'm very pleased by how easy it was to install and how nice it looks. My primary need for a hitch is to carry a bike rack, but I also have a small utility trailer that has been very handy when I need to carry a bulky load that won't fit in the Prius even when it's not all that heavy.

I had previously installed a Curt hitch on my 2009 Prius and had a bit of a problem where the bolt holes didn't quite line up (even though it was only off by 1/8 of an inch or so, it was a lot of work to "stretch" it by even that much to fit. So, I wasn't quite sure what to expect this time. But it turned out to be no problem at all - the holes lined up perfectly, making the installation quick and easy.

A few tips:
1) When removing the tow hook from the drivers side, make sure to carefully remove the bolt and socket driver. If you don't, they can fall down and get caught on the top side plastic underbody panel. That turned what would have been about a 30 minute job into a 60 minute one!
2) The video was very helpful. The installer in the video suggested putting some spray lubricant on the exhaust hanger to help get it back on. I initially found it impossible to remove, even with lots of effort to point that I as worried about damaging it. But a quick shot of silicon lubricant worked wonders - it slid right off to all access to the bolts, and the slid back on easily as well.
3) Be sure to use a torque wrench as described in the installation instructions. I had to torque it down a lot tighter than I would have guessed without the torque wrench.

First, let's make a comment on etrailer's service. I placed my order at 4:40 am. The item was shipped at 7:30 am. UPS attempted delivery the next day mid-morning. What would expedited service look like?!!
The Curt hitch is excellent quality. It took a little longer to install than anticipated, but once in it is great looking and very sturdy. The knuckle of the hitch sticks out about an inch to two inches beyond the bumper of my 2010 Toyota Prius. A couple of pictures are attached.

by:

Such a easy install it took me only 20mins from the ground I did back both rear wheels on a bricks to give me more room underneath to install the hitch I recommend lubricant on bolts and muffler hanger, I didn’t have a breaker bar so I used a wheel lug t bar and used the 3/4 side to just loosen it then came back with 19mm ratchet and loosen and tightened it all up and torqued to spec , It’s really simple I watched the curt video install on you tube once and understood it . Im glad I chose the Curt because it was so simple to install great product I recommend buying from etrailer vs eleswhere online...my receiver hitch was delivered well packed with no problems I’ve heard complaints from other websites that delivery was received damaged or bent so the bold won’t line up . Do yourself a solid and go to etrailer you won’t regret it.

2013 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid

I’m super excited to use the hitch I just got. The installation went fairly smooth with a big help from the video. It took less than an hour for the 2 guys who were helping me. I’m not sure I could have done it alone. The hardest part seemed like attaching the hitch on the passenger side because of the exhaust. The spec for this product says to torque it to 86 lbs. I hope that is enough to carry the load it is manufactured to claim. The hitch looks great and hangs as it should but I hope it’s not to low since I am already scraping the bottom of my car on shitty Bay Area roads. I like how it doesn’t stick out past the bumper much at all so I won’t knock my shins.

I ordered a trailer hitch for my Prius v. It came in a timely manner and well packaged. It was relatively easy to install. The instructions were unclear on removing a rubber holder for the exhaust, but I managed to install it without removing the rubber holder. I’m happy to have a hitch for my bike rack on my new (to me) car.

I highly recommend etrailer hitch and wiring harness They were both easy to install. The Prius pull the motorcycle camping trailer very well. You would not even know it was hooked to the car

Perfect fit, thanks for your user-friendly website! And thanks for the timely delivery also.
The Curt hitch was easily installed by a local shop that has installed "hundreds" of these on local Priuses.
The cargo carrier was pretty simple for this gal to assemble, but would have been even easier if I'd have had a good wrench and another person to assist. It's very sturdy and will be very useful.

I tried to install the hitch today but could not as per the instructions. The tow hook does not line up with the hitch, see pictures. I ended up installing without the hook but that is not how it should be. Please advice

The tow hook is removed for installation of the Curt hitch part # C11276 hitch on a 2015 Toyota Prius. Where the tow hook is located will have two bolts. Remove those two bolts and the tow hook. The two hooks will be replaced by the hitch. I have attached a video on a 2015 Toyota Prius for your reference.

For a 2010 Prius

Very well crafted.
It is a bit heavier than the other Hitch Receivers on the site, but looks way better. Everything was packaged nicely and came as promised.

Install wasn't bad either. I'm slender and fit underneath the car without car ramps and jacks. Just cut out a side of cardboard from the provided box and slide under. At around 45 lb. it's a bit tricky to hold up on your own. So a few house items to prop it up fixed that. 30min install time. MAKE SURE you have 17mm & 19mm DEEP Sockets and 6" extender.

by:
2011 ToyotaPrius

It took over 2 hours for install for 2 reasons. First, the tools would not fit around the exhaust system and in the access slot. 3/4 drive equipment was too bulky. Second reason, an Important issue, the heat shield on my 2011 prius extends further aft than the video and to fit the rightside bracket correctly, the bracket must be sandwiched between the shield and the frame. It took alot of time bending the shield to get the bracket installed. The video is wrong, they just clamp on top of the shield and squeeze it against the frame. You don't want heat to transfer to the vehicle because the 12-volt battery is located in that area.

by:
2014 ToyotaPrius

Went on my 2014 Prius with no problems. Just needed to bend the heat shield back slightly to avoid trapping it under the hitch attachment passenger side. You do need a torque wrench and AV least 6" socket extension. Watch you don't lose the socket inside the plastic under shielding on the drivers side - use a magnet to coax it back if you do!

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Draw-Bar For 2011 Toyota Prius
I would be happy to help! The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11276 is confirmed to fit your 2011 Toyota Prius and has a 200lb tongue weight rating and 2000lb trailer weight rating so you will need to make sure your trailer does not exceed those ratings. For a drawbar Curt recommends the Curt Class II Drawbar - 2-5/8" Rise, 3-1/4" Drop - 7-1/4" Long - 3,500 lbs # C45521 which has a 2-3/4" rise. • Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Toyota Prius
There are pros and cons to both the Curt Hitch part # C11276 that you referenced and the Draw Tite Hitch part # 24847. If you are planning on using this hitch for carrying a cargo carrier or a bike rack I would go with the Draw Tite. Curt requires the use of a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 any time you carry a bike rack or a cargo carrier. Draw Tite does not have that stipulation so I would lean that way. Both of these hitches have the same 200 lbs tongue weight and 2,000 lbs trailer...

I have a great way to transport your 2 e-bikes that weigh about 60 pounds each. However, the Yakima FullBack 2 # Y02634 and all other trunk bike racks do not have the required weight capacity that you need to safely transport your bikes on your 2011 Toyota Prius hatchback. With that being said, exceeding the 35-pound weight capacity of the FullBack is extremely dangerous. For the doable route, I recommend using a hitch-mounted bike rack. The remained of the hitch is concealed behind the rear bumper and fascia. As far as whether or not you can tow a trailer with your 2014 Toyota Prius you will need to check the owners manual or with a Toyota dealer for the final say on that. I'd be happy to help clarify! Basically what it boils down to is the strength of the hitch itself and physics. The Class I trailer hitches, like the Curt # C11276 for your 2014 Toyota Prius, are the lightest duty on the market and so they can't handle as much torque as the higher class hitches.
