Can I Use A 2" Hitch Acessory With The Curt C11276 Hitch On A 2015 Toyota Prius?
Question:
I accidentally bought a 1.25” trailer hitch inside of a 2”. I had it installed before I noticed. What is the best recourse? Are there adapters? Thank you Duco

Hello Duco. The best course of action really depends on what you intend to do with the hitch. If you plan to tow a small trailer, you can simply buy a ball mount that is compatible with the 1-1/4" hitch.
If you have a bike rack that goes with a 2" hitch, things get a bit more tricky. There are adapters like the # HTAD which will convert any 1-1/4" receiver to a 2" receiver. The only downside is that using an adapter like this will decrease the tongue weight capacity of your hitch my 50%. Meaning the Curt # C11276 hitch on your 2015 Toyota Prius will only be able to hold 100 lbs. This is factoring in the weight of the adapter itself (10 lbs), the weight of your bike rack and your bikes. I am not sure exactly what kind of bikes you have, but in some cases, using an adapter like this is not practical.
Aside from that, the only other option would be to remove the 1-1/4" hitch and install the EcoHitch Class 2 Hitch # 306-X7178. This is the only hitch available for the 2015 Prius that has a 2" receiver.
