Recommended Bike Rack And Trailer Hitch For Two E-Bikes On A 2011 Toyota Prius

Question:

For one of us, the Trek Verve+ 3 lowstep ebike, weight 54 lbs. For the other, the foldable Brompton M6L eFCB Black ebike, weight 28 lbs. Vehicle: 2011 Prius. Usually - but not always - has enough room to stow the folded Brompton. Need hitch and a rack. Prefer 1-1/4inch hitch if can handle combined weight of those two bikes and a rack. Seek an external rack that can accommodate both bikes on the Prius. Neither bike has a standard top tube and the unfolded Bromptons dimensions and configuration are non-standard. See on Bromptons website. Prefer 1-1/4inch hitch if can handle combined weight of bikes and rack. Your thoughts? Thanks

Thanks for the question, I'd be happy to get you sorted out!

Starting with a trailer hitch, I recommend checking out the:

-Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11276.

This is a class I (1-1/4" x 1-1/4") trailer hitch, that has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 200-lbs, and a maximum towing capacity of 2,000-lbs.

Moving on to a bike rack that will work with the class I hitch, as well as your two bikes, I recommend checking out the:

-Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # TH903202.

This bike rack will not only fit on the class I hitch, but also has a maximum weight capacity of 65-lbs per bike, for a total of 130-lbs, so you'll have plenty of capacity for your two bikes.

Additionally, this bike rack also has an integrated handle and wheels, that lets your roll the rack to and from the vehicle when not in use.

With this bike rack, and the hitch mentioned above, you won't have any issues transporting your bikes with your 2011 Toyota Prius.

Attached are a couple of review videos for you to check out as well.
