Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Really appreciate finding a replacement for my original order which was delayed at the manufacturer. This was less expensive, and according to my neighbor (a former Ford engineer involved in the trailer hitch design)"well-engineered and easy to install."

Awesome to do business with , the hitch was on my doorstep in two days , detailed video on the wiring harness made it super easy , would definitely recommend etrailer !!

You guys are the real deal...Quality parts, get shipped and packaged to perfection. And the installation videos help make a not so great install easier.
Now...I know products have gone up on everything...but I wish Big guys like you could push back a little for the little guy that's trying to save a few bucks by doing his own install. That $XXX + wiring harness is a bit ridiculous. I think my items were about 15-20% too expensive. Thanks,

by:

Overall unstallation was as expected. The trailer wiring was more complicated, since the wire needed to be attached to the battery. Overall, works as expected.

One person install in about three hours with no lift. Watched the video for step by step instructions and it went up easily. Also purchased the Reese bike rack. Everything went together great.

2017 Dodge Ram Pickup

Ultimately, the trailer hitch has been excellent, but the way it arrived it was unusable. I'm not sure if it was the frame on my 2017 Ford Edge or the hitch itself, but the hitch wasn't wide enough to "straddle" my frame. Luckily, I had a hydraulic ram handy and was able to "spread" the hitch by about 0.5" to make it wide enough to fit over my frame. After that, installation went smoothly. I am a casual user - about once per month with light duty trailer, bike rack, and hitch-mounted cargo basket - and have been very pleased with the performance and aesthetics of the hitch.

It's worth noting that if I hadn't had a hydraulic ram, the hitch would have been impossible to install. Again, not sure if it was a Ford issue or a hitch issue. My advice to installers would be to measure inside dimensions of the hitch and outside dimensions of the frame prior to doing anything else install-related!

I got rid of my car so I took the hitch off. Easy to remove, but difficult to get all of the hardware back out of the frame. Hitch worked great for the short time I used it, though aesthetically the paint didnt last at all and the hitch looked as though it was 10 years old instead of one. I wonder if they could use a more flexible paint, or undercoating or truck bed liner for a more resilient coating? Doesnt much matter bc the hitch is out of sight under the car, but it makes you wonder how itll hold up long-term if it looks that rough after 1 year?

2015 Ford Edge

2 inch receiver hitch - 2015 Ford Edge:
Hitch
is well made and works fine. Install video is helpful, but unless you have an overhead lift, not as easy as shown. Dropping the exhaust as shown is required. The video says to enlarge the holes in the Edge's frame to allow the hitch mounting Carriage bolts to go inside. I chose not to do this. Rather, I ground a flat on two opposite sides of the carriage bolt heads, making the shape an Obround instead of a circle. Still plenty of gripping power when tightening, but much easier to drop through the existing holes in the Edge frame, and you are doing this on a bench grinder instead of upside down on the ground.
Hitch fit-up was VERY tight. Had to finish alignment with a hammer and taper pin, but was successful. Very little clearance when installed, but works well.
Would not recommend self install unless you have plenty of patience and/or an overhead lift. Same a s with the wiring harness - take it to a shop and go get a cup of coffee.

Perfect fit on our 2018 Edge SE. Instead of cutting the feed through holes larger I opted out for taking off just a bit on each side of the carriage bolts with a file. Took only a few minutes and it worked. Assistance was needed during the lifting. It is heavy and holding one end up while trying to feed bolts through the other end is a bit tricky.

Just great. Wanted it so I could get a bike rack. Did that, a Yakima. Does exactly what it said, no problems and is very inconspicuous when the bike rack is removed, not often though.
Would definitely recommend and the mechanics who fitted it, used your tutorial video
and said 'oh yeah we worked with draw tite before great products"

Great hitch, highly recommend and fast shipping. You must follow the instruction video, there are no short cuts. I installed it by my self (74 years old) on my garage floor. Car was not raised up, but used a jack to raise the hitch. I highly recommend 2 people to do this and a car lift would be even better. Took a little longer than expected, but I took my time. Looks good on my 2021 Ford Edge Titanium. 3 years ago I put one on my 2017 Lexus RX350 still looking good and works well. I highly recommend. (Now to tackle the wiring)

by:
2015 Ford Edge

The hitch arrived within 3 days which was a very pleasant surprise. After reviewing the installation instructions I opted to have the hitch installed by my local mechanic because of the availability of a lift. The hitch installed relatively easily but a lift provided easier access and visibility than your typical home garage installation could provide. Plus, you clearly need a second set of hands to support the hitch while installing. Installation time was significantly longer, about 1 1/2 hrs which included the time to modify the under body plastic shields. Not a big deal but added to the time. If you installed this hitch more often your time would likely be about half. When completed the hitch looked great and accepted our Swagman XC-2 platform bike rack without any issues.

by:

Prompt shipping, package included all required hardware, and online installation instructions were thorough and helpful. The mounting plates needed substantial leveraging to expand to allow positioning and alignment over bolt holes. I chose to grind the bolts rather than the chassis to allow bolts to pass through the hole into the frame. The fish wires are A++. The welds on the hitch are clean and smooth. The paint on the hitch is consistent and smooth. I will be using this for a hitch mount bike rack so chose not to install the trailer hitch wiring. I used a utility knife to cut slots in the cover panels inside the rear quarter panels so they could be reinstalled over the hitch. The car was positioned on some inexpensive ramps to provide access for installation, which took roughly 2 hours. I benefited from using a floor jack to hold the hitch in place during installation.

2019 Ford Edge

Sooo..... Good product, box came a little banged up and some visible damage to the cross bar facing the back. Where the hitch bolts onto the car had some scratches, but they are hidden once installed.
* I have a 2019 Ford Edge, non titanium. I was able to install the piece without removing the bumper parts and heat shield. It was a bit tricky pulling the bolts through the back end, but was able to do so with some help and lucky fishing.
* Most difficult part was the width of the piece. We were able to bolt one side, however, the piece was very difficult to install on the other side. I used a car jack and pry bar to lift and "widen" the piece so that I could get it over the car's chassis.
* If the piece fit perfectly, the install would have taken an hour or less. We spent about 45 + minutes banging lifting and prying to get it into position. Other than that, pretty easy to install.

by:

Great product, easy install. I cut very little from panels under car

by:

The consumer should not have to grind anything on the frame. eTrailer should furnish carriage bolts that has a reduced head diameter that fits through the slot. (OR) Work with Ford on getting a bigger slot. There is no need to cut away a bunch of a plastic panel underneith. The video shows one of the two larger holes were cut away. This is foolish. Only cut away what is needed. I cut a 5/8 wide slot so the panel slides through the brackets. I think it was 5 or 6 inches long. No holes were cut away.

by:
2020 Ford Edge

Installation was very straightforward. Fit was exact without requiring any adjustment before final torque on the bolts. Second set of hands is almost a requirement to lift and hold hitch in place before boots are threaded, I watched 2 installation videos (for both the Curt and Draw-Tite hitches) which helped immensely. The Curt video showed a GREAT tip for fishing through the support plate and carriage bolt without having to grind out an elongated hole, possibly leaving exposed metal (potential accelerated rust spot if not thoroughly coated).

I just had my hitch put on today it was installed by employee from [online]l. It sounded like it was very easy to mount. When I ordered by email and placed my visa card through to you I course did not receive any paper information.
They [online store] people did not find any invoice in the box or claimed they didn’t see any on the outside of the box. Would you please mail me an invoice so I have records for my taxes for next year thank you. I am very anxious to put my platform on my new hitch for my e bike!

by:

Painless ordering process and quick shipping. Not etrailer's fault but when the product was delivered the box was damaged, as a result part of the coating on the mounting brackets was rubbed off down to the metal. Will have to coat after mounting the hitch onto my vehicle so it won't rust.

by:

It sits a little low on the vehicle but I don’t think that’s the hitch’s fault. The car wasn’t built to tow. It’s a little frustrating to cut some of the trim to make this work but if that bothers you, there is a more expensive option that doesn’t require cutting the underside trim pieces. I am happy with the quality of this product

Customer service was great. The hitch i bought for my edge is beautiful and well made. Installation was easy. If I ever need an another hitch I will buy from here again.

by:

Good looking hitch. I mounted it myself in 1 1/2 hour. Put back tires on ramps and used a hydraulic jack to raise the hitch into place. Instructions were very good.
Nice fit and does not stick out past the bumper.

2015 Ford Edge

This Hitch works and is safe, however, you cannot reinstall the vehicle's plastic protection panels due to the design.

75234 is what you want. it's designed to allow these panels to be reinstalled.

According to Draw-Tite, it is possible to retain the underbody panels after installing the # 75214 receiver hitch, but they would need to be trimmed so that they fit around the hitch. The # 75234 hitch you referenced will allow the panels to be retained, unless the vehicle is an Edge Sport or MKX AWD model.

  • Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75214 is 5/8 Inches Off from Fitting 2018 Ford Edge
Trailer hitches can bend and flex a little in the shipping process and that is likely what has occurred with the hitch you received, # 75214. This hitch is indeed a fit for the 2015 to 2018 Ford Edge SE, SEL, and Titanium. The hitch can be flexed back into position relatively easily. I have included a link to our help article that covers exactly this issue and how to correct it.
