Video Transcript for etrailer Ball Mount Kit Review EBMK25318

Adam: What's going on, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the etrailer 2-1/2 inch trailer ball kit. This is a nice kit that we put together that pretty much gives you everything you need to haul some heavier duty stuff. We can go with a rise, we can go with a drop, and we have two different kinds to choose from. Now let's go ahead and see how it looks when we hook it up to a trailer. Do you have a trailer that has a high coupler, like a dump trailer or something else like that This might be really good for that. But for all the trailers we have here at etrailer, it is a little bit too much of a rise for what we really need, but that's why we give you two options.

If you don't have a lifted truck, I would definitely recommend getting the 1-1/2 inch rise and 3 inch drop ball. This is a 2500 stock Silverado, and this is definitely the one we're going to be using, but if you do have a little bit of a lift, it's probably best to go with the 5 inch drop and 3-1/2 inch rise.Between the two kits, we're going to have one differentiating factor, and that is just going to be the shank itself. One is going to have a 1-1/2 inch rise or a 3 inch drop. The other one is going to have a 3-1/2 inch rise or a 5 inch drop. Both are going to be made for a 2-1/2 inch class five hitch with a gross trailer weight of 18,000 pounds and a trailer tongue weight of 2,000 pounds.

Both are going to have an overall length of 15-1/2 inches, and then from the center of the hitch pin hole to the very end, it's going to be about 11-1/2 inches. And then from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of our ball mount hole, it's going to be about 10-1/4 inches. It is made of one solid piece, and it is going to have a nice powder coated finish, so it's not going to rust away on you over time. Both kits will come with a 2-5/16 inch ball with a gross trailer weight rating of 20,000 pounds, but we want to make sure that we don't exceed the actual ball mount here, which is 18,000. The shank of our ball is going to be 1-1/4 inch in diameter, so it's nice and tight. A little bit of wiggle room, but that is okay.

And the overall length is going to be about 2-3/4 inches. We do provide a pretty durable canvas bag for you, has a little holder here. And with the ball mount completely assembled, it's going to be able to fit in there with ease with plenty of room for your hitch pins and anything else that you want to fit in here. If you needed an 1-7/8 inch ball or a 2-inch ball, we do have a lot here to choose from at etrailer, but just make sure that you don't go over the ball's capacity, as the shank is going to be a little bit tougher than the smaller ball size. One thing that doesn't come with the kit is a hitch pin and clip. We do have a lot here at etrailer. So this one here is going to about 5-3/4 inches long, and it fits just perfectly through the 2-1/2 inch shank to where you can get this pin inserted in.

But in my opinion, what I do with any hitch-mounted accessory is grab a lock. So the etrailer lock is 5/8 inches in diameter, fits nice and snug in there, and this is going to lock it to your hitch receiver so it doesn't run off. The mounting hardware is included. We're going to get a lock washer and a big old nut, but the tools are not included, so what you're going to need is either a wrench or a socket. That's going to be an inch and 13/16ths inches. And I would definitely recommend getting a breaker bar to lock this thing down, because we're really going to have to torque this tight. I would go ahead and insert the ball mount. This one is the 2-inch drop. And get her locked in place. And that's just about it for a look at the etrailer 2-1/2 inch trailer ball set..

I am a frequent etrailer customer, the variety and availability of quality components and excellent service is what keeps me coming back. When trailering I strive to be as safe as possible, which is why I chose this heavy duty ball mount to tow my 10,000# car hauler trailer. With this very robust piece, I can be assured that the connection between my truck and trailer is secure.

This was our company's first ETRAILER order. My original order was for a Blu Ox receiver reducer. The plan was to continue using our current 2" drawbars with the 2 1/2" receiver on the "new" (2008) truck. Upon installation it was very apparent that there was way to much side play for safe towing of heavy loads on gravel roads. ETRAILER customer service was contacted for assistance. Holly was extremely knowledgeable regarding the product line and also had "hands on" experience with trailer towing. She not only guided me to the best resolution to my issue; but, also expedited shipment of the replacement drawbar. She further emailed a return shipping label for the reducer that was easy to print, along with straight forward and easy to understand instructions for the return. The UPS driver even commented about the label being the correct size as opposed to many undersized labels that he has received. Our company will now use ETRAILER as our "go to" vendor for trailer repair and towing supplies. As for the drawbar, the construction is one piece forged steel with an I-beam design. The ball appears to be high quality. I have complete confidence that the drawbar and ball kit will perform as needed when we are towing equipment or logs on gravel and dirt roads; as well as, off-road.

For 12 months we have subjected the ETRAILER drawbar ball mount through on and off road tests pulling our 7ton GVW equipment trailer. Other than normal signs of weathering it is just like the day it arrived. If we have a need, we will purchase this product again!

This worked out great, a solid and sturdy replacement to my old hitch, and worked better for my Pacific Trailer. Gives me the right amount of clearance coming down from my driveway so I don't bottom out the trailer jack.

by:

Arrived as promised. My Eagle boat trailer instructions state that the centerline of the ball should be at 18-20" for best effect. You should know that with the 3 inch drop, the centerline of the ball is exactly correct for my 2014 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD crew cab.

As an aside you should know that Masterlock receiver lock 1469 DAT does NOT work on the 2014 Silverado 2500 HD 2.5 inch receiver. IT IS TOO SHORT. Even though it is advertised by the manufacturer as "extended reach," the advertising is false in implying that it will work on a 2.5" Chevy receiver.

Purchased this Ball Mount Kit for 2013 Super Duty that is equipped with a factory 2½" Class V receiver. The ball mount fits great with minimal slop. The bag which comes with the kit is very handy to either store the ball mount and/or retractable Ratchet Straps and stores perfectly under the rear seat. Great product/kit and am pleased with this purchase!!

by:

Came as detailed on web. Very heavy duty ball mount and ball. I have not used it yet, but will soon. eTrailer order went very smooth, one of the best tracking tools on the web. Order and Package was shipped quickly. I would do business with eTrailer again.

by:

Very fast delivery, it is a Reese Ball Mount but it is clearly stamped Made in China as are many steel/iron products these days.
Nice storage bag too.

Beautiful #18000 2.5 " receiver and ball.Super fast at my door.Who could ask for more when staring at that square hole in the back of my 2016 Ram 350.0

by:

Im very happy with the hitch. Even ordering was easy. I would recommend etrailer to friends and family.

by:

The ball mount kit arrived on time and in great shape. I look forward to using this set-up this summer.

Thank you.

by:

I purchased this 2.5" insert to eliminate the adaptor spacer for my 2" insert on my new truck and eliminate rattle. However, this one has more play that the 2" insert with its adaptor. Time will tell as I pull my trailer more but we will have to wait and see.

by:

Awesome equipment. Exactly what I needed. Service was awesome from ordering, tracking & delivery. Very professional.

by:

Using this mount to pull a 7 ton 22 foot trailer, heavy duty and gets the job done .

  • Class V Trailer Hitch that Will Fit a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 with a Factory Installed Trailer Hitch
You will not be able to remove the factory hitch on your 2007 Dodge Ram because it is welded and integrated into the bumper cross member which it welded to the truck frame. You would need to use a hitch that fits around the factory hitch. For a Class V hitch, you can use Curt # C15809. This hitch will also give you a 2-1/2 inch receiver and a capacity of 2,700 pounds tongue weight and 20,000 pounds gross trailer weight. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you....

  • Trailer Hitch for 2012 Ram 3500 that Replaces the Factory Installed Trailer Hitch
For your 2012 Ram 3500 with factory trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Class V hitch # DT45509. The factory hitch will need to be removed so this hitch can be installed. Once installed the receiver will be right up under the bumper in the same location as the stock hitch was. All of the other options require mounting a hitch so that the receiver will be below the factory receiver and you will lose the ground clearance. • Does Factory Hitch and Cross Member Get Removed to Install Draw-Tite Hitch on a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500
To install Draw-Tite trailer hitch # DT45509 on your 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 you would remove the factory hitch and the bumper structure it is attached to. This is mentioned in the instructions which I have linked for you. The new hitch will take the place of that bumper structure that the factory hitch is welded to. The recommended ball mount kit for this hitch is # EBMK25318. It comes with a ball mount with a 1-1/2 inch rise or 3 inch drop, a 2-5/16 inch ball, and a storage bag.

The Curt hitch, # C15409, will fit 2500 and 3500 models with or without a factory installed hitch. But, it will not fit Daytona, Hemi Sport Quad Cab, Ram Rumble Bee or SRT-10 models. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. For a ball mount, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, # EBMK25318. Yes, the factory hitch on your 2013 Ford Super Duty truck will need to be removed to install the Curt Trailer hitch part # C15810. If you need trailer wiring you would want the Draw Tite wiring harness part # 18252. For a ball mount and hitch ball you would want the etrailer.com Ball Mount kit part # EBMK25318. You could use the Titan Hitch Box Extension # RP45292 with this hitch as well.

  • Can a 2 Inch Ball be Included in a Ball Mount Kit Instead of a 2-5/16 Inch Ball
What you can do is get the parts individually since we can't swap the balls out in a kit. The ball mount is # RP45323 and the bag is # ETBMB. For a 2 inch ball that will fit use # A-90. But keep in mind that the ball is rated for 10,000 pounds which is less than the ball mount which is rated for 18,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 2,000 pounds tongue weight.

I think you may have a couple things confused but that's pretty easy to do so I don't blame you. A 2-1/2 inch hitch is a hitch with a square opening that measures 2-1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inch like what you see in the picture I attached. 2-5/16 inch refers to the diameter of a hitch ball that installs in a ball mount which then installs in the hitch. Originally, because the radius at the inside corners of the Ford OEM hitches were more rounded than usual, getting aftermarket hitch accessories that would fit was a problem. Ballmounts could be altered to fit by sanding off the powder coat at the corners.
