Does Factory Hitch and Cross Member Get Removed to Install Draw-Tite Hitch on a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500
Question:
2004 Dodge Ram 3500 with Factory Hitch Class IV welded on the cross member. Draw-tite specify that DT45509 is compatible with the above truck but will Requires removal of factory hitch if equipped. I see 3 solutions for the factory hitch removal since it is welded to the cross member, which approach would you recommend: 1- Remove the cross member along with the factory hitch. Assuming the DT45509 will serve as a replacement for the cross member. 2- Remove the cross member along with the factory hitch and replace the cross member with a cross member without a factory hitch. Assuming the DT45509 will not serve as a replacement for the cross member. 3- Cut the factory hitch from the cross member leaving the cross member in place. Thank you,

To install Draw-Tite trailer hitch # DT45509 on your 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 you would remove the factory hitch and the bumper structure it is attached to. This is mentioned in the instructions which I have linked for you. The new hitch will take the place of that bumper structure that the factory hitch is welded to.
The recommended ball mount kit for this hitch is # EBMK25318. It comes with a ball mount with a 1-1/2 inch rise or 3 inch drop, a 2-5/16 inch ball, and a storage bag.
