Video Transcript for Review of Gen-Y Hitch Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - Stowable Adjustable Ball Mount - GY48XR

Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this GEN-Y Phantom Adjustable 2-Ball Mount with Stacked Receivers. This ball mount is going to slide right into your two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver on your vehicle. It will need a standard 5/8 inch diameter hitch pin to keep it in place, prevent it from sliding out. You probably already have a hitch pin that will work for your other hitch-mounted accessories.

But if not, we do have lots of options available here at etrailer.com. We also have locking hitch locks available. And so if you want to add a little extra security, you can do that. And then here on the front we are going to have our dual-sided hitch ball. That's gonna provide a connection point for your trailer coupler.

So we've got a 2 inch ball, and a 2 and 5/16th inch ball. So that's going to allow us to tow trailers with different coupler sizes, whether you have a 2 inch ball coupler or a 2 and 5/16th inch ball coupler. That's going to add to the variety of trailers that you can tow. To switch the ball, if you're done towing a 2 inch ball coupler and you need to tow a 2 and 5/16th inch, you just pull out that pin, flip it over, get those holes lined up, pass the pin back through, and you're ready to go. So very easy to switch.

If you are gonna be towing multiple trailers, gives you lots of adjustability there so that you can accommodate those different size couplers. This is constructed of a powder coated heavy-duty steel. So it is going to resist corrosion and it's gonna provide us a gross towing weight capacity of 12,000 pounds. Of course, is the weight of your trailer plus the load included. It is going to then have a max tongue weight of 1,200 pounds.

That's the downward pressure on your hitch ball. You can see, we are gonna have these four stacked receiver tubes that are going to accept not only our included ball mount, but other 2 inch hitch-mounted accessories as well. They do include the one pin to get your accessories secured to the shanks, to your receiver tubes here. So whether you're using the ball mount, or you wanna take that out and put on bike rack, cargo carrier, that sort of thing, then you can use these for that as well. Having these stacked receiver tubes is going to give you a height adjustment. So if you are gonna be towing different kinds of trailers with different coupler heights, this is going to allow you to accommodate those, to make sure that they're gonna be able to ride level. So again, you just pull out that pin and adjust it to whatever height it is that you're gonna need. If we have it in its lowest setting here from the top edge of our shank, which is the top inside edge of your hitch receiver, down to the ball platform, which is about where your coupler is gonna sit, it's gonna give us a maximum drop of about 9 inches. When I measured it it was about 8 and 3/4 of an inch. So, just giving you a round measurement there, 9 inches. So, make sure that that's gonna work for your setup. If that's gonna be enough for you, if your coupler sits 9 inches lower than the top of your hitch, that will work really well for you. And then of course, we do have the three other options. Those move up in 2 and 1/2 inch increments there. Now technically, you can flip this over and use it in the rise position. If your coupler sat higher than your hitch, but that's going to really be difficult to then utilize our main feature of this which is its stow-able design. So when we're done towing we're ready to not use our ball mount anymore, we can simply pull out this back pin here and then this will stay installed into your hitch. And then you can simply rotate this around so that it's stowed back behind. That's gonna give you a nice clean look there. It's also going to help prevent hitting your shins on your hitch ball when you're not towing. So if you are gonna be getting to your truck bed, obviously it's going to make it much easier, much safer for you, to not have to worry about hitting your shins on those balls. So it is gonna be a nice, flush design there for you. Give you a few measurements on how this is going to fit. So from the center of our hitch pin hole there to the front edge of our shank, we're looking at, right about 4 and 3/4 of an inch just shy of 5 inches. The distance from the center of our hitch pin hole to the bottom of our receiver tubes here, it's going to be about 13 and 3/4 of an inch. The distance from the center of our hitch pin hole to the edge of our ball mount, so if we wanna keep this installed, that's going to be approximately 5 and 5/8 of an inch all the way back to here. So you could remove this, remove your ball mount, store it somewhere else, store it on the front here if you wanted to, and then you would just be dealing with the distance from your pinhole back, which is going to be approximately, we'll call it 1 and 1/2 inches, just a little over 1 and 1/2 inches. The clearance here between the bottom of your shank and the top of your receivers, is right about 1 and 3/8 of an inch. So of course your hitch receiver is gonna be taking up some of that room a bit. Just wanna make sure that you know how much clearance there is to make sure it's gonna work for your application. Then when you're ready to use your ball mount again, simply pull out that pin and you can rotate that forward again, I just dropped the pin clip here. So we'll put that in place. That's going to then allow us to use this to hook up to our trailer. One measurement, while we're in this extended position from the center of our pinhole to the center of our hitch ball, we're gonna be looking at right about 11 and 3/4 of an inch. So again, giving you all those measurements just to make sure that this is going to work for your setup. We do have other options with different number of receiver tubes, here. So, for different drops to accommodate those different trailers. So make sure that you're getting the right one that's gonna match your setup's needs. This is SAEJ 684 certified. So you can trust it is gonna do a good job for you. It's gonna hold up well, and get the job done. This made here in the USA. So, again, you can trust it's made to the high quality standards we've come to know and trust for products that are made here in the US. And GEN-Y does have a great reputation for building very solid products. This is no exception. It is a very solid ball mount for you. So you'll feel very confident once you handle it that this is gonna do a great job at towing your trailer for you. It also comes with a limited lifetime warranty. So if you we're to have any issues with it, you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com and we'll be happy to work with you, make sure you're getting good quality products, and having a good experience. I think this is gonna be a really nice quality, think it's gonna do a good job, and give you that option to stow it away when you're not using it. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

Gen-Y Hitch Phantom 2" Shank 9" Drop 1.2K TW 12K & Ball Mount - GY48XR

Flip the balls and receiver stack on this heavy-duty ball mount beneath your hitch for a clean look after towing. Works with most tailgates, including the 3/4- and 1-ton GMC MultiPro. Tow up to 12,000 lbs with the 2" or 2-5/16" ball.

I wanted to be able to tow any trailer with a single hitch and that is why I purchased this model. Any size ball and pintle hitch all in one implement is great.... the drawback, this thing weights a lot. I don't like leaving the hitch on the truck if I'm not towing, but this thing is too heavy to move and I'm worried about this much weight bending the toolbox on the truck if I hit a bump.

For measurement purposes... This is a 2000 F-350 4x4 on stock 16" rims and tires and a CM flatbed. I got the 5" drop\rise model and it looks like it is going to be great. In case i need it, I added the 1 7/8" ball to the drawbar. When I can afford to get three matched key pins I will order them.

by:

Overall the hitch is heavy duty and solid. I have ready some reviews about the Pintle option and have used mine for the first time towing an empty trailer. It is showing some wear behind the ball where the wedge is welded. I will try it with a load and see how it holds up.
i hate to give a negative review but for the money it should not have that excessive amount of wear with it’s first use.
I have a curt hitch with the Pintle and it has worked perfectly. I was looking for something that had a better curb appeal with the Gen Y.

by:

Just received my new hitch and my first impressions is that this is a very stout hitch. The hitch is very heavy, so I won’t be taking it off and on much. I’ll leave the stacked receiver on the truck, I had a locking pin to secure it to the truck. I will store the 2-ball mount in the cab for now until I get some locking pins. Don’t want to become a victim of theft! When I obtain the locking pins, I will leave the balls attached. If you want a very stout adjustable hitch, I definitely recommend this Gen-Y hitch. Can’t wait to test it out on the road!

by:

The best hitch you can buy! I run these in my company trucks. Makes connecting to anything we have simple and easy. No searching for lost hitches or figuring out who is using what.

by:

Best hitch on the market . I have them on 33 trucks

by:

best hitch I've owned. I have no doubt it will pull any of our equipment with no problem. odelelia was a big help and so nice when I ordered it a year ago.

by:

Heavy duty, strong and reliable. The black color on the ball scratched off fairly quickly, and the additional length of the hitch may keep some safety chains from reaching the vehicle. These are just things I noticed, but the quality of the hitch is tremendous.

by:

It’s heavy duty. I think it weighs as much as my equalizer hitch. I just got a new truck so we’ll see on a hitch height but on my old truck I wish I’d gotten the hitch with one height up so I had more adjustment and so it’s off hitting the ground. Oh well I tried guessing. I should of listened to the spirit. But a great heavy duty hitch.

by:

Very strong hitch

by:

This is a very functional and versatile hitch. Incidentally, the extended horizontal length allows me to drop my tailgate and not hit my trailer jack. The only theoretical downside is the increased torque on the receiver because of the horizontal extension inherent with the hitch design, as well as the massive weight. these issues do not seem to be functionally relevant however. Pintle may come in handy someday. I would buy again.

by:

We love these hitches so much we’re replacing all we have in the fleet with the Gen-Y. Etrailer’s customer service is the reason we don’t shop anywhere else.

by:

It's a great hitch. Fits our needs. Only negative thing I can say is the paint/coating rubbed off almost immediately after putting it to use so there's a rust ring around it where it meets the receiver.

by:

WOW. That is pretty much the word that sums it up. WOW. Not only because it weighs roughly 60 pounds, but she is pretty to look at to boot. Aside from that - the construction on this thing in a monster. Overbuilt by Hercules to pull down a mountain kind of over built. Exactly how we expect anything truck related to be. You do not want failure at any point, ever. This takes your drop hitch to a whole new level. I have owned B&W and Bulletproof before - and while there is nothing wrong with them - I do not think I will ever use another brand again. This is as good as they come.

by:

Another great purchase with etrailer. Fastest shipping and the same price as the lowest competitor.

by:

I used adjustable ball mount to haul a tow dolly and also carry a hitch haul with wood. It worked great.

by:

I just installed the Gen-Y and its way better than my last one (much more stout). I put it on a 2011 f350 with a leveling kit on 35s and Im defiantly glad that I got one with the 7 inch drop. Im also going to be putting it on a Kubota M-120 to pull a 12ft box scraper.

by:

Tow hitch is 100% expensive but towing my trailers has been so smooth it’s defiantly good quality and worth what you pay , defiantly recommend buying a $10-$20 lock so nobody steals it off your truck though!

by:

Bought this product from etrailer and was amazed at the high level of customer service and knowledge. The product arrived ahead of schedule and was packaged well. This product is made well and I’m glad it’s a product of the USA.

by:

No doubt it's "mega duty". Thing weighs 54 lbs. I don't know if its worth the money but I'd say its probably the best hitch you could get!

by:

After two failed attempts and three weeks lost trying to buy same hitch on [online] n, same hitch from etrailer was ordered on Thursday and delivered on Saturday. Same hitch same price. The status updates were clear, uo to minute and never once saw a "lost in transit" once. `The hitch itself was a snug fit on my ram 2500 and I guess that's not a bad thing but its in and I have no doubts it will do the job.

by:

So far it’s worked great. I have several different style trailers I pull daily and it’s great that I don’t have to change out hitches every time I have to pull a different trailer.

by:

Great unit

by:

Heavy duty, high quality, delivered on time as promised. Thanks e-trailer.

by:

Great receiver
The drop was perfect for
motorhome to tow our car. I have 13,000 miles of towing with it and not one issue.
Would definitely buy it again.

by:

It is exactly what I needed to keep my trailer level when in tow. My old hitch wore out the back tires on the trailer because the front end was raised up. I needed a heavy duty hitch since I have 2 water tanks holding 275 lbs. of water each. I've had comments from people saying they've never seen a hitch like that, I just say its a good one. If they ask I tell them where I got it, etrailer.com.
