Video Transcript for Curt Dual Length Ball Mount Review C45220

What's up everybody Adam, here with etrailer. Let's take a look at this Curt ball mount. So, this ball mount is gonna give us a drop of about 2 3/8". And it's gonna give us a rise of 1". Does not come with the ball, so just grab whatever size you need, just to make sure it can fit through a hole with a diameter of 1". We have a lot of them, so grab the appropriate one.

It's gonna give us a gross trailer weight capacity of 7,500 pounds, and a tongue weight of 750 pounds. The nice thing about this one is we have two different holes. So one, the one from the back, from the center of this, to the center of our ball is gonna be about 10 1/2". But when we take this out, we can kind of push it up a little bit. But if you have a spare tire, like I do, we're not really gonna get it all the way to there.

So, we're gonna have options. But if you do use that other hole, it's gonna be about 7 1/2 from the center of that hole to the center of our ball. So you can keep it real close to your vehicle, or leave it out. I like having the option, I think that's really nice. Another thing that's nice about this, we have a hollow shank.

So with hollow shanks, we can put an anti-rattle device on the inside. We're gonna have to buy a hitch pin and clip anyway. So might as well just get the kit that comes with the anti-rattle device, because whenever I'm mowing trailers and stuff, it's usually hot outside, and the window's rolled down, and I can really hear this play. So with the anti-rattle device, we're not gonna have to worry about it. So might as well just grab one, and it's a little bit of cost that'll just save you a lot of headache whenever you're going down the road, and all of your components aren't gonna feel it either.

So definitely recommend doing that, and might as well grab a lock port too, because you saw how quick it was, maybe a couple seconds. And someone can steal your ball mount. So I've had one for a very, very long time and it gets the job done. So if you did want to kind of upgrade, since this is kind of the entry level ball mount, I would recommend just kind of grabbing a shock absorbing ball mount. The Gen-Y Glyder is a good one, just because when you use them, you're gonna use them for a long time. Might as well spend the extra money to get a little bit smoother of a ride. But if you're just hauling some standard trailers, no heavy duty stuff, and you're not really looking for anything special, this is gonna be a great option for you. It's made of steel, powder-coated finish and that's basically it. There isn't a whole lot when it comes to ball mounts. This comes down to the rise, or the drop. And just if the ball that you want is gonna fit in there. So, just take all that into consideration, but that's basically it for our look at the Curt ball mount..

Needed a longer unit to accept a bike c arrier.

by:

Quality product. I needed a longer mount for my side by side and this will work well.

by:

This product served me very well. I wanted a longer fit in my receiver than the one I had. This worked great on the inside hole. I did have a problem with the hitch hitting my spare tire at this location which required me to cut about 3/4" off of the back side of the hitch.

by:

This is exactly what I needed for the hitch on my Grand Caravan. The hitch on the vehicle is set back and this extended length ball mount keeps the trailer tongue away from the van's plastic fascia.

by:

this hitch works great, don't have to worry about denting my tailgate!

by:

Did my research for ball height and this ball mount fit the bill.

by:

Want to thank you for a great product. I needed a product with a longer shank and the two hole shank is a bonus, this is on the back of a Ford F-150 that pulls a boat or Harley trailer. Thanks again

  • Is there a Curt Dual Length Ball Mount with a 2 Inch Drop
Getting the right drop (or rise) is important for sure. Curt does have ball mount # C45220 which is a dual length ball mount with a 2-3/8 inch drop. But they do not have one that is exactly 2 inches. The extra 3/8 of an inch is still well within acceptable limits of what is considered level so it is a great option that will work for you. You don't want to drill any holes in a ball mount because doing so will void the warranty and could actually compromise the structural integrity of the...

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for 2 inch Hitch with Ball Mount with 3/4 inch Shank Diameter
The Curt ball mount # C45220 will have a 2-3/8 inch drop and ball hole diameter of 1-inch. Since you have a hitch ball with a 3/4 inch diameter shank you'll need the reducer bushing part # C21100 and you'll be set.

  • Recommended Ball Mount for Extended Length Needs on 1997 Nissan Pathfinder
There are some ball mounts that have multiple hitch pin hole options for different lengths. For instance the Curt Dual Length Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 1" Rise, 2-3/8" Drop - 7,500 lbs # C45220 has a couple options or the Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ballmount - 5-1/4" Rise, 6-3/4" Drop - 6,000 lbs # C45901 which also has options but not spaced out very far. We also have long ball mounts like # D-26 you referenced. The Brophy Ball Mount - 3" Rise, 4" Drop - 14-5/8" Long - Aluminum...

  • Availability of a Ball Mount with a 3-Inch Drop and 3/4 Inch Ball Hole Diameter
I have two options for you to consider The Curt ball mount # C45220 will have a 2-3/8 inch drop and ball hole diameter of 1-inch. It's the closest to the 3-inch drop you referenced but currently there isn't any with a 3-inch drop only. The gross towing weight of the Curt ball mount is 7,500 pounds and tongue weight is 750 pounds. You can use a hitch ball bushing # 320000 to reduce the diameter of the hitch ball hole from 1-inch to 3/4 inch. See the picture I included. Another fixed ball...
