Note: This Axle-Less system requires crossbeam support. If your trailer frame doesn't have a crossmember in place, you can retrofit it with one, or you can add a support by running a piece of 2" x 2" steel tubing through the square holes cut into these units. You could also add a steel reinforcement bracket to the inside of the trailer frame.

There are many suspension options for your trailer or camper. So, what makes Timbren Axle-Less different?
Axle-Less systems are a definitive upgrade over traditional leaf springs, in part because they allow you to do away with your thru-axle, allowing for maximum clearance. As you've probably noticed, having a leaf spring suspension means that your axle will always hang at least a few inches below your trailer's frame, resulting in limited ground clearance. This may make it difficult to navigate off-road terrain.
In addition, while leaf springs do a great job of supporting an even load, they may cause your trailer to bounce and rattle when it's empty or to bottom out with a heavy load. And they don't offer any type of shock absorption for a smooth ride - unless you have upgrades built in. With Timbren's Axle-Less system, gone are the days of dealing with these annoyances - this suspension is designed for a quiet, balanced ride, whether your trailer's fully loaded or empty.
A torsion axle is a step up in terms of shock absorption, and it provides more clearance than a traditional, leaf spring suspension, but that crossbeam will still hang down some. And if your torsion axle gets damaged in any way, it can't be repaired - you'll have to replace the entire thing with a setup that matches your exact trailer frame width.
With the Axle-Less system from Timbren, you won't have a low-hanging axle beam to get in the way when you want to go off-road. The lift spindles on this setup will also raise your deck height, making navigating off-road terrain way easier. And the rubber springs and independent operation both combine to absorb shock and deliver a smooth, easy ride. In addition, the Axle-Less system can be easily maintained over time, and it will fit any trailer frame width, so you don't have to worry about potentially ordering the wrong size like you might with other systems.
Another suspension upgrade on the market is Timbren's Silent Ride. This setup is a great option to reduce bounce and rattle because it has the same AEON rubber springs as the Axle-Less system. But the Silent Ride still requires an axle, so you won't get the same ground clearance or low deck height as you will with the Axle-Less suspension.
The Timbren Axle-Less suspension is designed with you in mind. All of the parts work together so you can tow your trailer comfortably - regardless of load size.
The first step in installing the Timbren Axle-Less suspension is to make sure that the mounting points for each unit are directly across from each other. The easiest way to measure this is to mark the desired mounting points on your trailer's frame. Then measure the distance between these points and the center of your trailer coupler. These measurements (A and B) need to be within 1/8" to keep your trailer frame square.
Once you have your mounting points lined up, you'll be ready to install the system. Drill 3 holes into your trailer frame at the desired mounting points. Then bolt each unit to the frame with Grade 8, 1/2" bolts (not included).
Because Timbren's Axle-Less system eliminates your trailer's thru-axle, you'll have to find another way to get the crossbeam support that keeps your trailer frame square. You have a few different options to do this depending on your application and how much fabricating you're comfortable doing.
If you're building a trailer, the best option is to begin building with the Timbren Axle-Less in mind and include a crossmember where you want to install the units on your frame. You can also retrofit an existing trailer with a crossmember.
If you don't have a crossmember where you want to install the Axle-Less system (and you don't want to add one), pick up a section of 2" x 2" steel tubing from a nearby weld shop. This tubing will serve as a support to keep your trailer square. It will hang only about an inch down from your trailer frame, providing more clearance than a thru-axle.
After you've mounted both of the units to your frame, you'll need to drill 3 holes into the steel tubing and into the built-in, square holes. Then, insert the tubing through the holes and secure it with 3 bolts (not included) on each side.
The last option is to fabricate a reinforcement bracket that can be attached to the inside of your trailer frame and to the Axle-Less suspension. It may be a little harder to fabricate a compatible bracket than to mount steel tubing, but you may get additional clearance with this method.

I have heartburn over the spindle build quality. The spindle is mounted to the suspension and then the trailer wheel mounts on the spindle. The spindles I received are warped from welding. The plate that bolts onto the suspension does not mount flat due to this warping. I called Timbren. The gentleman that helped me was very pleasant. I described the problems and he said he would check his inventory and call me back. He did call me back and said they are all like that. He said get out the grinder and fix what you can and just tighten the bolts super tight, maybe the gap will go away. Really? Wow. The other problems are a LOT of weld spatter where the bolts are supposed to fit and they made a bend in the plate too close to the bolt holes so two bolt heads hit the bend and dont fit flat against the part they are supposed to hold together. Yikes! I am taking the spindles to a machine shop to fix them but I would not have ordered this Timbren stuff had I been warned before hand. So, fair warning.
Great product so far after 1 year. Everthing is holding up and i have put it to good use on multiple occasions. The lift kit made my trailer off road capable and performed to my expectations.
After a fair number of miles including a lot of off road driving, I have nothing but good things to say about Timbren suspension. I have had a few questions and concerns and the support from Timbren has also been stellar. I would suggest you use the 2" crossmember no matter how solid you think your trailer is as it seems to really help in making everything perform well.
I purchased the Timbren suspension components to upgrade the suspension on my vintage trailer. A phone call to etrailer got all my questions answered and the help I needed to get the right Timbren set and the right hubs. Everything was received in short order in good shape, except there was a small glitch - one part of the system wasn't included in my shipment. A call to Bill at etrailer resolved that issue inside a day, and the missing pieces were shipped right away. Excellent service and support from start to finish - this is the way you want to do business!
I was looking for a low profile axle system for my motorcycle trailer. The primary requirement was to be able to load my motorcycle by myself which required a low-profile trailer. With the 4" drop provided by Timbren, this setup turned out great. I originally intended on using ramps but after I swapped the leaf spring axle out with the Timbren, I found I was able to ride my motorcycle on/off without the need for the ramps.
Originally, I was going to go axle-less but I found when torquing down the assembly to my frame it started to compress the aluminum rail. To take the pressure off the frame I added the 2" bar from axle to axle. Pulls smooth and effortlessly.
I've had several people comment on the trailer height with one wanting to buy the trailer from me. This person worked at the local Honda Dealership. He thought it was a great design and I would imagine he's seen a variety of trailers come through his lot.
The other option I considered was a torsion axle but I was looking for the lowest profile I could get. Therefore, cost was not a key factor. I also like the soft ride the Timbren system provides. Not sure if the torsion design would have been as smooth over bumpy roads. Regardless, I'm pleased with how this project came out.
Be warned! I would not buy from Etrailer ever again. We received our order and Etrailer failed to send the entire trailer axle kit. They did not include one spindle in the kit, rendering our order useless without ordering an additional spindle. Because more than 30 days had elapsed before reporting the issue, Etrailer refused to send the spindle, in addition to insinuating that I was deceiving them. This must be how they increase their revenues…don’t send the entire order, and if the customer does not catch it within 30 days, the customer loses and Etrailer makes more money. Absolutely horrible customer service from the company who failed to fulfill their end of the contract while accusing me of being deceptive. One star is far too generous for Etrailer and their scams.
Used this on a camping trailer behind our Jeep. The suspension handled 1000 miles of washboard gravel roads and mild rocky offroading with ease. We don't drive gently and had the trailer airborne at one point. The brackets that we opted to fabricate for them were straightforward and simple to install. I especially like the ground clearance under the trailer that you gain due to the lack of a solid traditional axle. The ride quality overall was excellent, especially given where we took it. In hindsight we should have gotten the 4" travel version as it may have been able to soak up deep ruts at 40mph a bit better. Only mild complaint is that the powdercoating on the leading edges had already begun to flake off when we received the suspension. I hit it with a can of spray paint, but I would have hoped it would be more durable. Overall, I will definitely be purchasing this axle-less suspension again for my next trailer build.
Excellent, helpful customer service sold me this product, and trust me when I say it's worth the price tag. Pulled the old axle and leaf spring off a 60's era Bantam and swapped out for this with a support bar in between. Bumped up tires to 315/75r16 BFG TA/KO's to match my rig and am amazed at how much better this trailer now pulls. Empty it wad bouncing all over the place with the old axle and leaf spring setup. Now I hardly even know it's there. Was very easy to install, took a couple hours but I am happy with how it turned out. A+++ product and customer service!
I love these. 30k miles and still going. Almost 1k offroad and they're still holding up. Fully loaded my overlanding trailer weighs 2k lbs, empty 1360 lbs. They did settle a little, but I just raised my fenders a little.

It was a moderately easy installation.
Very pleased with the design and heavy duty construction of these axles. Used them to build an off-road trailer and they performed flawlessly throughout many challenging trails and off road situations. My only complaint is that the ez-lube hub design does not take grease very easily. I've had to disassemble the hubs to properly grease both bearings due to the inadequate amount of grease flowing into the bearings.
We are high production company . Said it was in stock, took way too long for a instock product to be sent. 3 weeks, we did not know when it would come so we ordered another and it comes in two days.

Built a custom trailer to haul an ATV on some bad rural roads in Baja.
I used the 2" drop axel-less suspension to allow for full size tires and wheels yet keep center of gravity low. Easy to install on exposed frame, but note that a required brace or 2" square steel bar may be needed and sourced on your own. The finish is not very durable and does not survive the normal bumps, wrench scrapes and scratches of installation; plan on some touch up once installed. Pay attention to the spindle clearance and wheel offset.

I live in California and I'm building a custom off-road camping trailer for overlanding/camping, mainly for the Sierra Nevada backroads, but possibly for longer trips in a variety of terrain. I had read about the axle-less suspension from Timbren and found that it's a popular choice for these types of trailers. In my searches, etrailer.com came up frequently. So I posted a few questions on their web site, and got a prompt response with tons of great information and a complete parts list for what I needed. Much appreciated! The order handling and shipping was very prompt, and all my parts were shipped in one shipment which I definitely appreciate since I don't get packages delivered to my door. I received all the packages today. Great customer support, prompt handling, and quality products. I gave 4/5 stars because the packaging could have been a little better. One of the boxes was a little banged up in the corners, but the content was unharmed as far as I can tell. I've also received follow-up emails to ensure that I received everything and that it was in good shape. Overall, I'd highly recommend the company, and I won't hesitate to buy from etrailer again! My trailer build will probably take a few months to complete with all the bells and whistles, but I'll be sure to post pictures from the process.

Looks like a great product but the Machining of the parts that need to be bolted together don't fit right...The spindle assembly doesn't match up with the Suspension assembly so I will need to grind of some metal that should have been taken care of at the factory in order to mate the two pieces together proper and flush with each other. Seems to me Timbren needs to preassemble their parts to make sure they are going to mate together properly. I'll fix it myself because other than that it seems like exactly what I need. No fault of etrailer but Timbren dropped the Ball on this one.
Quality item, at a good price, with fast service. What more can I say.
These axles have been awesome! I put them on a teardrop camper I built and they are great. I was able to easily adjust the camber and toe once weight was loaded on. They also have very high ground clearance which is great for overlanding.

Your comments regarding the Axle-Less Suspension are greatly appreciated. To address the issues you have pointed out, we have carefully reviewed our assembly. While we did not come across any major issues, we did however discover a few areas where the quality could be improved, specifically in the areas you brought to our attention. The following improvements have been made to improve the manufacturing process: - Robotic welder gun re-programmed so that it stops from getting too close to the areas adjacent to the mounting holes of the outboard arm and control arm. This will minimize weld spatter. - The distortion of the flat plates is due to the high degree of heat generated during welding. We conducted experiments, changing the sequence of welding operations until we were successful in minimizing the distortion. We apologize if our customer service in addressing your concerns was insufficient at the time of your phone call.
