How To Lift an Old 1977 Scamp Camper with Torsion Axle

Question:

Hello, I am thinking about adding height to my 1977 Scamp Camper trailer. It currently has an old probably original Torsion Axle. Is there a Lift kit that would help in this project or one you would recommend? Thanks,

We do have lift kits available for torsion axles but they are designed for specific Dexter Torflex Axles. For example, the Torflex Lift Kit part # K71-707-01 is designed for a Dexter #10 Torflex Axle which has a 2,300 to 4,000 lb weight capacity. If you do not have a Dexter Torflex Axle then you still may be able to use the Torflex Lift Kit but you would need to measure the distance between the mounting holes that attach the axle to the frame. If they are 8" apart on center then the Torflex Lift Kit may still work for you.

The other option you have is to upgrade to a new system like the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension part # ASR2KHDS04 which has a built-in 4" lift and no axle tube so if you were ever to take the trailer offroad you would not have any clearance issues underneath the trailer. The Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension also has a unique rebound spring setup that will allow the trailer to pull the same unloaded as it would while loaded. If the torsion axle you have now is original to the trailer then this will be your best option as the rubber sleeves are most likely worn and need replacing.
