Available 2000-lb Trailer Axles for Fabrication of 5 x12 Utility/Landscape Trailer

Question:

I am looking to build a 5x12 utility / landscape /camping trailer. The most it will be holding is about 2000 lbs. What economical trailer axle can I use with the most clearance underneath the trailer bed for non-pavement and pavement use? I like the axle-less designs but they are so expensive. Can you compare the best price for each for me in case Im not looking in the right spot on your website between axle and axle-less for a 2K lb trailer?

Our standard beam-type axles for trailers are shown on the linked page. These are available in weight ratings from 1200-lbs up to 3500-lbs. They are also available with or without hubs, and you can choose either idler hubs (no brakes) or hub/drum assemblies if you intend to add brakes. Our 2K axles are also available in 60-inch or 72-inch lengths. Price depends on whether you also need hubs and brakes.

All beam axles will give you less ground clearance than the Timbren systems. Timbrens are also a lot simpler to install than an entire leaf spring suspension, which consists of hangers, shackle straps, leaf springs and axle u-bolts. You can refer to the linked article for more on trailer suspensions.

The most ground clearance will come from using a Timbren kit with lift, such as # ASR2KHDS04 or # ASR2KHDS03.

Keep in mind that the axle you choose should be rated for the trailer's GVWR, which is the most the trailer can weight including the items loaded on it.
