Goes together quickly, appears that it will fit my needs in terms of being cross-compatible on a variety of vehicles. Fit on a Subaru Outback factory crossbar and transported bike locally with no issues when I got it out to set up and test (not quite warm enough to ride much yet where I live). Instructions are not super, but the assembly is pretty straightforward so that is not a problem. At the price point, if this rack indeed holds up to swapping onto multiple vehicles and lasts me a few years, I'll be thrilled with the purchase.

Update to my review. Does not quite fit on Whispbar Aero...maybe if I muscled the u-shaped screw part of the mounting brackets a little so theyd be wide enough to fit over the crossbars, but not going to try that and then have it not fit my Subaru racks. Still stand by my four stars at this price point but would be irritated if it were yakima or thule expensive.

The Whispbars are pretty wide, in fact they are the widest bar we carry. Glad to know you are still happy with the rack.

I purchased two of these racks, along with another rack that is meant to hold bikes with both tires still installed. I am extremely happy with all three of them. This rack specifically is very sturdy. Installation was sort of a pain, but that was mostly due to me installing it on the top of my 2004 GMC Yukon XL...it is so high that it was a little hard to install. But now that it's installed, it's actually very simple to take the bikes on and off. I've made one round trip with these racks, so I've put the bikes up there and removed them twice. Both trips (about 100 miles each way) they bikes were super sturdy and I had no concerns about them falling off or anything like that.

I would definitely recommend this rack if you're looking for a fork down roof mounted bike carrier. In fact, I will very likely get another one when we add another bike to the family. I think I'll be able to fit four racks on the top of my Yukon easily.

One last note - I was initially concerned about the height of my vehicle when bikes were on top of them. I brushed a couple of tree limbs when pulling into my camping spot, but it was no big deal. I think the total height of my load was about 10 feet, which was lower than the camper that I was pulling.

I like the fork-mount design in general for roof mounted bike carriers, and this product gets the job done. (We have 3 attached to the SportRack SR1002, and this seems to work well for us.) However, the assembly instructions were not well written or well illustrated. For example, there is a short carriage bolt that one basically has to guess about where to install, and also you may have to insert some of the bolts backwards from the instructions so that they don't interfere with quick release that clamps onto the fork.

by:

The rooftop carrier market is flooded with expensive attachments. We were looking for value and this is it. Not difficult to assemble and install. I like the carriers that don’t use the front wheel. Two reasons, better aerodynamics and with no front wheel visible, it discourages theft attempt. The only reason it didn’t get five stars was the rear wheel strap needs improvement for narrow road bike tires and needs better cinching capabilities.

etrailer and their associates were awesome. I ordered 2 of the swagman fork mount roof racks and they were easy to assemble and worked great. Also on this order part of my order wasn't going to be in on time so they were a great help in cancelling that part and getting the rest of my order to me in time for my trip. I will for sure be shoppinion with etrailer for any future needs.

by:

Just finished mounting the bike carriers to my 2003 Escape. The assembly went well except that I had to remove 1/4" from the u-bolts on the end opposite the quick release to keep them from damaging the roof. I'm looking forward to taking our bikes on a camping trip this week. See the picture of one bike on the Escort. Thanks for prompt delivery, communication, and packaging.

Driving from Chicago to LA currently and the bike rack is great. Attached to my aero bars easily and very secure. Would definitely buy again and I would use etrailer to do so.

by:

So far so good. Bike tray installation took a little bit of time, but wasn't hard, just time consuming. After install, I put my bike on it and took it for a test drive running errands for about two hours. Worked fine without any trouble and feels really solid. I've been a die hard Thule person but their prices for racks are just way too high. First time buying an "off brand" but for the price I think it was a good investment.

Still working great

by:

Excellent rack for a reasonable price!
They
even included some extra parts.

by:

The Rack came quick and described well. It is a very inexpensive rack, so that in mind. it has a bit of hardware and some minimal instructions and some extra pieces not described in the instructions. It is a great rack for the money. goes on easy, holds secure, looks pretty good, a great deal for the money.

it was great for what it was. my girlfriend drove it under a carport with a bike on it...woops ! it happens. anyway, turns out good that it was kind of soft metal because it bent and saved the bike and the roof of the car. otherwise we would still be using it. works great for road bikes.

I have been looking for an affordable bike rack for quite some time. I kept thinking that I should just go for it and buy and Thule, but could never justify spending almost as much on a rack as I did on the bike! I finally decided to just go for it and try something, instead of continually putting it off. I am really pleased with my choice. The rack is great, the bikes fit perfectly on the two racks we bought (I'm 5'3" and my partner is 6'1" so we have very different sized bikes). I would give this 5 stars, except for the fact that the instructions for installation were very hard to follow. Once we figured it out, installation was SUPER EASY. The racks are sturdy, and we were able to travel 4 hours without any trouble at all. We have oval bars, and it fits just fine!

by:

The rack was pretty much as should be expected at this price point. It works, but not great quality. For one, the paint easily chips off. Another, the rails are a bit flimsy and twist when you tighten the rear wheel firmly. The directions don't explain a number of small items (which make for a better installation) such as make sure the lever is positioned on the outside for easier installation of the bike, why is there one different bolt, whether the bikes should be mounted forward, backward or it doesn't matter, the rails have a right (and less right) way of going together, the strap for the rear tire "will" fall off of the rack if you forget to reinsert it after taking the bike off of the car. Despite these shortcomings, the rack works well at an inexpensive price...I think a pretty good value

by:

I bought three of these and have used them every weekend for about a month now. It serves its purpose well and is a good rack for the price. Bikes are very sturdy when mounted to this rack.

Only downside is that it's not lockable, and it takes a few minutes to install/remove it. I knew this before I bought it though, and am overall very happy with the purchase... especially when I look at other fork mount racks that are three or four times the price of this one.

by:

Assembles and attaches to rack easy enough and seems sturdy. Bought two to go with a new rhino rack. Don't plan to leave these on the rack all the time only when we need to move the bikes around. Put the bikes on and drove around a bit and no issues, time will tell. I have a comparable thule rack and these are functionally the same and the cost is significantly less. Can't really lock it to the rack unless you use a cable or something and maybe the longevity is not as good as the thule but otherwise these are great for what we need them for. No brainer.

by:

Met all expectations! Great price and easily made the journey nice and secure atop my 2015 Subaru Outback. Pretty easy to mount up, I'm sure not quite as easy as the more expensive ones, but not difficult at all. For someone like me who will only occasionally use it, this is perfect.

it worked great, very please with it, until I just ran into a low clearance bar and bent it completely up along with ruining the cross bars. The rack did its job thought held onto the bike and worked great, just a bad driver decision.

by:

The bike rack is very good for the price. How the rack attaches to the utility bars could be better; but will do the job. On the front of the rack there are two U bolts that wrap around the bottom of the utility bars. They could easily include 2 "weight distribution brackets" for the bottom of the front U bolts (like they have for the rear U bolt). I would happily pay a little extra. Even with that complaint the rack still attaches securely and will certainly transport my bikes with little drama.

by:

I am very pleased with this bike rack. For the price and sturdiness it works perfectly for my mountain bike. I will probably buy another one for the other side of my roof rack an my Toyota Rav4.

by:

Cheap, does the trick. No lock, Metal corrodes slightly after a year of use. The connection points to the rack are a bit harsh, just metal, so it’s a secure connection, but can damage a rubber strip on your roof rack if you have one.

by:

Just installed. Instructions a little "fuzzy". Set it up, installed bikes, did all adjustments. Appears to hold bikes firmly.

after initial install, product has performed flawlessly. have transported 2 bikes on several occassions in excess of 2000 total miles. bikes held securely. great value for the dollar.

by:

Bike holder is just right for my Jetta. Easy to assemble and install on the cross bar. So far have no issue with it, works for what I needed it for.

by:

For this price, it's a good rack. I had to do some fiddling to get it to fit well on the OEM aerodynamic bars of my Subaru Impreza. For example, I found I had to put the three bolts that hold the front piece to the rail with the nuts on the top rather than the bottom, so the nuts didn't poke into the bar (particularly the middle one). But with some patience during installation it seems to work fine.

by:

Great product, quality, and price point! Super adjustable and super easy to mount. Hands down the most bang for the buck when it comes to this type of bike carrier.

by:

Bike Rack OrderEtrailer had the best price for this item, so I bought it. It arrived in a timely fashion and I installed it today. Haven't actually put it to the test yet, but I can already tell that it will work. I wish I had bought two so I could have saved on the shipping.

by:

This doesn't work with 2010 Xterra
The
crossbars are much wider than the larger of the 2 U-bolts.
I have to go to home depot and buy u-bolts that are about 1.5 inches wider.

Disappointed
Spending more time on this than I wanted to.

by:

Once I decided which ends get bolted together, it was quick going. This rack fits on factory cross bars for Dodge/Chrysler minivan (2016). I bought 2 of these and mirrored the fork clamp bolt (passenger side clamp on wrong for easy access)

I plan to add plasti-dip to contact points w/cross bars to avoid damaging the finish. I think this will do the trick for vacation family bike hauling!
