The built-in landing gear legs let you fine-tune the height. And they can be adjusted independently of one another to stabilize the steps on uneven terrain, eliminating any wobble.
Will Torklift GlowStep Revolution Scissor Steps Work for You?
Pull-out steps are typically installed on travel trailers. The GlowStep Revolution pull-out steps from Torklift are easy to install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.
The GlowStep Revolution pull-out scissor steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the doorframe, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 27-1/2" wide and 13-7/8" deep.
If it turns out you have less space beneath your doorway, there are smaller step assemblies available with 25-1/2" wide brackets. A full list of the available steps is below.
Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.
Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.
How Many Steps Do You Need?
To determine how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, and it will tell you how many steps you need.
The chart below displays entry height measurement ranges in the first column. If you determined you need a 25-1/2" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the second column. If you determined you need a 27-1/2" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the third column. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.
This page's step assembly is in bold text.
Entry Height | 25-1/2" Mounting Bracket Width | 27-1/2" Mounting Bracket Width |
---|---|---|
18-1/2" - 28" | TLA8102 | TLA8002 |
25-1/2" - 36" | TLA8103 | TLA8003 |
32-1/2" - 44" | TLA8104 | TLA8004 |
39-1/2" - 52" | TLA8105 | TLA8005 |
46-1/2" - 60" | TLA8106 | TLA8006 |
How Do You Install the Steps?
To install the steps:
-Fully extend steps until feet touch the ground
-Set aside steps before drilling
-Make sure the bracket is backed up fully against the I-beam on the chassis
-Hardware not included
GlowStep Accessories
Add any of these accessories to your Revolution scissor steps for stability, eliminating gaps, and keeping your steps and RV interior clean. The GlowGuide handrail (TLA7621 - sold separately) attaches to the outside of your RV and a bracket on the bottom of the steps. This helps to steady the assembly and adds 25 lbs to the weight capacity of the stairs. The SafeStep vinyl barrier (TLA7602 - sold separately) easily fastens with Velcro strips in between any 2 steps. This prevents you or your pets from accidentally slipping between steps. The DirtDestroyer boot brush (TLA7603 - sold separately) affixes to the bottom of the steps so you can scrape your shoes before climbing into your RV.

much easier to climb than original stai rs
Our rig is a 2015 Lifestyle LS39FB 5th wheel and was factory equipped with the typical fold down steel steps. The issue with the stock steps is that the bottom step was rather high off the ground after I raised the coach in order to gain more clearance between the underside of the nose and the truck bed; my wife had a hard time getting in and out of the coach.
I researched these steps for quite some time before purchase and came to the conclusion that they were the best solution. The stock steps were attached via four vertical studs, so I also purchased the vertical stud adapter bracket, part number TLA8022.
I completed the installation just today and was very pleased to find that they were a "near bolt-on" installation. The only obstacle was that the entry light mounted on the back wall of the stair pocket was too high for the new steps and had to be moved downward about 3/8". Fortunately, the hole for the wiring was oversized so all I had to do was remove the screws from the light fixture, move the fixture down, and put the screws back in
Both my wife and I very pleased with the steps. The bottom step is much closer to the ground and the separately adjustable landing gear is great, especially since the place we park the coach at home is not level.
We did find it necessary to adjust the bolts on the scissors to make it easier to fold the steps back up - this topic is well covered in the owners manual.
Finally, these steps are very well engineered, very well made, and I would highly recommend them to anyone.
I bought these steps because I needed something sturdy and stable, but I wanted them to stay outside. I've had the ones that fold into the doorway, and they are stable, but they bring dirt into the camper, can damage the doorway and are not usable in tight locations.
So, one year later and we still love the steps! They were simple to install. Maybe not "easy" but I had someone helping me that, also, was not familiar with doing things like this. It took us about 2 hours. If I had a jack or something that could lift the stairs, that would have helped. The "glow" part is a luminescient square of material on either side of each stair, and it glows bright for several hours after sunset. I thought it would be "cheesy," not work well and expected it to peel off by now. But it really performs well.
The stairs are well-made and strong. They flex a little bit, but are very stable. I can extend them fully for a longer run, or move them in if I need to. They really adapt to the situation. I like how they lock up under the camper. It takes a little practice to get the hang of extending and stowing the steps. But it takes up no extra space in the camper and brings no dirt inside. It was a good purchase. No regrets.
Installed the steps and found that I needed the adapter plate for a top mounted bolt pattern. I did not want to wait to have them ordered and shipped so I made some out of angle Iron I had at home. 2' angle cut and drilled with no problem and they worked fine. I found that the install was a little more work than I thought likely due to my home made brackets. Once installed they took a minute to figure out the various levels and how they affected the angle of the stairs.
These steps appear to be very well made out of quality material, very heavy duty aluminum steps and scissor mechanism. Lower legs are strong and well built. A little difficult to push adjusting button in but very sturdy when in contact with the ground.
These steps take all of the bounce out of the up and down trips out of the fifthwheel. Much better Than the aluminum aftermarket steps I was replacing.
Only thing that surprised me was the amount of pressure required to collapse the steps back into the closed position. This may get easier as they are used more and lubed. Much more stable that OEM steps and they do not get folded up into the interior of the fifthwheel with dirt and water like with the solid step system.
We purchased the steps for our 5th wheel last year as the steps that came with the RV were not stable enough. My wife has knee problems and is "short" so we needed better steps. These steps are perfect for stability, but also the steps are much closer together in height. We can adjust them to the proper height usage according to the level of the campsite!
Love these steps.
Purchased the 5 step Glowstep Revolution. Received it very quickly. Installation instructions were for either one or two people, I did it alone. Instructions and actual installation was very straight forward. Purchased this product to increase the stability of the steps getting in and out of our fifth wheel. The A8005 did just that. Would recommend this product and e-trailer to anyone
Product was as expected and installation wasn’t too difficult with two people doing it. I think it would have been very difficult for only one person. The steps are much easier to go up and down as they have a shorter rise than normal camper steps. I’m anxious to use them on a camping trip!
I chose to give this purchase 4 stars. The pricing for the product was the best that I could find. The product was delivered to Wisconsin in only two days from the time of ordering , which I found extremely prompt. However, my one complaint,(which I have seen in other reviews), is that the packaging from the manufacturer, is extremely flimsy and weak. The tape holding the packaged product had come almost completely off of the package. Very fortunately, the product, ( which I must admit is very strong and sturdy), was not damaged. I would think that etrailer, knowing that this is a constant problem, would take the time to re-package the product so as not to have this continuing situation.
Lightweight, looks good and solid feeli ng
These steps are the best addition ever to our 5th wheel (except for the Truma tankless water heater). A snap to use, and a solid grounding.
Took longer to remove old steps than to install scissor steps. One man job with screw jack and scrap 2X4s. Much easier to enter and exit trailer now. Wife is very happy for the upgrade!
Great product! Easy to install and very sturdy on my Grand Design Reflection travel trailer! I am including before & after photos, and one including added step covers and extended handrail replacement.
Rock Solid!!! Worth every penny.
Replaced my trailer's original springboard steps that were flexing more and more. At first, I was concerned about fit. Reached out with measurements and received an A8004 recommendation for my 2010 Montana Mountaineer. Once installed I discovered I had more ground clearance than I had with the OEM steps. Not sure if it can be seen in the front on picture, the trailer frame lower than the bottom step in its stowed position. The adjustable top step is an absolute great invention.
Had to disassemble some of the sidings to the left and right of the step mounting brackets to get at the OEM mounting bolts. Space between factory brackets expanded almost 0.5 inches once OEM steps were removed. Had to stop and get spacers. Mounted the A8004 steps with spacers on each side. My wife assisted with aligning and balancing the new steps while I bolted them in. Ignoring the other prep work that had to be done, it took me about 1 hour to actually unbolt and remove the OEM steps and bolt in the new steps.
We are extremely pleased with the Torklift Glowstep Revolution (TLA8004). It is solidly built, easy to install, easy to operate, and a suitable price!
We are also extremely pleased with etrailer's customer service! Upon receipt of the new steps, we immediately noticed that one of the landing feet and one of the guide pins were bent. The shipping box did not show the type of damage that could have caused the problem.
I emailed etrailer, and within 24 hours they had gotten back to me and the replacement parts would be shipped shortly. This was all during the height of the COVID-19 virus shutdowns. About 7 days later the parts arrived and within 15 minutes I had the damaged parts replaced.
I am grateful for both etrailer and Torklift customer service. Both are exceptional!
I bought the Glowstep revolution four step with landing gear.. I could not be more satisfied... took about 1hour to install by myself with the help of a floor jack, that includes removing the old steps..!! Delivery from etrailer.com was fast and free shipping.. great company to deal with.. I have included a couple of pictures of my new steps.. we love them..
I installed the steps on a 2019 Grand Design Reflection 311BHS. I was very pleased how easy it was to remove the old steps and install these new steps. I used the one person method described in the owners manual that came with the steps. Very easy. Being set on the ground will make these steps more stable, then the factory installed steps. I was also very impressed with etrailer. The steps were shipped the same day that I placed the order. I received them in a short period of time. I have always been impressed with ordering things from etrailer.
these steps are awesome. Very adjustable don't need to worry about the hard sidestep swing if your door opens these steps will be able to be used.
Install was easy though I did have to drill two holes in the existing brackets to clear bolts on the steps. This is mentioned as a possibility in the directions. If doing the install alone take the steps off the frame as noted in the directions for ease of install. Steps are sturdy as shown in numerous videos. The adjustments are easy for both the top and bottom. The only thing I'm wondering is if the two plastic catch doohickeys are supposed to be bent down as visible in the photos. I replaced a 3 step set with these because they were very bouncy and my old dog had a hard time negotiating the steep steps.
Installation was simple and straight forward. It fit my Open Range like a glove. All things included i spent 1.5 hours start to finish (one person) I am very pleased with the operation of the steps. I have only had it on a smooth and solid surface but I can see the adjustability in the steps will fit any surface.
Installed in less than a half hour!!
One thing I would recommend, is to not take the unit apart as the instructions tell you to.
Simply use a floor jack with a 2x4 on top of it to lower down your old unit and raise the new unit will save much time--not taking your brand new unit apart!!
Also if you have pets installing carpet on the steps will save their feet from getting burnt in the summertime-that aluminum is going to get very very hot
We really love these steps on our camper. It took a little bit to get them on the camper. I had to take the old steps out and disconnect the steps from the box and then cut the bottom half of the box off. I then could put the top of the box on top of the new steps and mount them under the trailer. it sounds kind of like a redneck way to put them on but it worked out well.
The Torklift Glowsteps are GREAT, but it took 2 weeks from the time I ordered them to install the steps. Don't let that scare you. I'm 68, was working by myself, and have been disabled for 29 years, and I doubt anyone else will experience all the difficulties I did to buy, have delivered, and install the steps. I measured according to Torklift and etrailer instructions, and ordered the 4-step, 27 1/2-inch frame TLA8004 from etrailer, because that was the width of the original steps' frame. I also ordered the TLA8022 Vertical Stud Adapter Kit. When the steps arrived, the UPS driver had the step box sitting on what was the top, because the bottom had become completely un-taped during shipment. The steps and their frame were still in the box, but the owner's manual, installation instructions, warranty card, and hardware kit were not. The Stud Adapter Kit was in its own separate box, and was intact. While the steps were here, using a wood platform I built, I lifted them up into our trailer's step well with a floor jack to check the fit. That's when the REAL nightmare began. We had an industry-standard 27 1/2-inch step frame on the original steps, but the manufacturer had placed both the vertical studs in the floor at a steep angle, instead of perfectly vertical. The factory had bent the original step brackets to make the original suspended steps fit the brackets. But the Glowstep frame fits MUCH higher up, next to the floor, and there was no way the 27 1/2-inch Glowstep frame was going to work with those angled studs and our narrow step well. So when they reshipped another set of steps, I asked etrailer to replace the steps with the TLA8104 4-step (same price), which has a 25 1/2-inch-wide frame. I also ordered the TLA8020 Spacer KIt to use with the TLA8104. Problems like the shipping snafu and the stud problem are why I deal with etrailer, and my previous order history with the company is about an arm's length! Hally C. , Lisa D., and John R. were all VERY helpful in helping me to resolve my problems. They contacted UPS to pick up the original steps at my home (after I repacked and solidly retaped the box). In 2 days, UPS picked up the original steps (I kept the stud adapter kit). Next day, UPS delivered another set of Glowsteps with 25 1/2-inch frame, this time with an etrailer box stapled COMPLETELY around the Glowsteps box, and VERY securely stapled with 111 BIG staples!! Then the fun began. Due to disabilities and medications I take I can't be exposed to high heat for long, or I will pass out and/or be unable to walk into the house to cool off, and our heat index in Central Texas has been running in the +100 degree range. Actual temperatures in our metal RV garage have been running 110-117 or more from noon to about midnight. I had to make some small modifications in order for the step frame to fit on the angled (non-) vertical studs on our trailer. I do NOT recommend anyone else modify ANYTHING. But I was determined to get us some premium steps that were easier to climb at our ages, and warranty was NOT one of my concerns. In our tight RV garage we CANNOT use the pivoting steps that store inside that are becoming popular. The Glowsteps were our only option, so I HAD to make them fit. These steps are built like a tank anyway, so I can't imagine ever needing the warranty, only insurance, if the steps are damaged by some outside force. I still had spacing difficulty, so I ended up having to straighten the factory-installed step brackets that the factory workers had bent, and drill them to match the mounting holes in the Glowstep frame. Then I had to paint the bare metal exposed by the work I had to do. When I finally finished all this, and jacked the step frame up into the step well, everything fit perfectly, and I had access to all the hardware. Tight clearance between our trailer side and the RV garage wall is the reason we could not consider the pivoting steps which pivot up and store inside the doorway, and I'm glad to say that even though we can't extend the Glowsteps out all the way due to the metal framing of the garage wall, the steps are rock solid and can be easily and safely used in just about any position. I have bad knees, and my wife has a bad hip, and the difference these steps make in allowing us easy entry and exit from our trailer is like the difference between night and day from the original shaky, suspended factory steps. My wife's sister and 94-year-old mother have their own trailer and camp with us, and even my M-I-L can easily get in and out of our trailer now, with the Glowsteps. She has never liked having to climb into our trailer with the original steps, even with a folding platform at the bottom. The "rise" on our steps was just too much for many of us. She does have to use the assist handle on the wall for balance with the Glowsteps, but she has to do that on any trailer, even my niece's 5th-wheel, which has the pivoting, store-inside-the-door steps. The Glowsteps are NOT inexpensive, and I had no idea of the trouble I was about to run into in installing them, due to the angled (non) vertical studs installed on our trailer at the factory, and the limited space in our enclosed step well. But now that the blood, sweat, and tears are behind me and the Glowsteps are installed, I don't think that my wife and I will EVER regret making this upgrade to our trailer, which is our preferred (and ONLY) recreation, that we've enjoyed immensely for 45 years! THANK YOU, ETRAILER, and THANK YOU, HALLY C., LISA D., AND JOHN R. YOU ARE LIFESAVERS!!
Took just a little bit of time to install. I was by myself and ended up utilizing a small floor jack with board to hold it in place while I bolted it in. Well, it was very worth the time. Will order and install on new camper once I purchase it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Still liking them after a year of use. We did have one mishap that damaged the landing gear on the steps. We were on a dirt road rife with stutter-bumps washboard and the retaining pin vibrated out of the latch. That allowed the latch to move upward and the steps fell to the ground while in motion I had to replace the landing gear and straighten out a couple of the aluminum scissors. Considering that the steps were dragged for close to a quarter mile and that was he only damage is testament to quality construction of the steps. To prevent the problem from happening again, we installed a hitch pin with integral safety wire in the second pin hole on the latch, so now we have two pins locking the steps in the stowed position.
