Can 5-Step TorkLift GlowSteps be Used in Place of a 4-Step Unit on a 2016 Keystone Trailer

Question:

We own a 2016 Keystone 21RBSWE. If we go by the book, we should install a 4-step version of the Torklift GlowStep Revolution steps. My question is: Can I install a 5-step version and thus have a shorter step rise approaching 6 inches that would make it easier on sore knees and hips? It is unclear to me how the top step is adjusted so that stepping into the trailer has the same rise as the rest of the steps.

You could potentially use TorkLift GlowStep Revolution Scissor Steps w/ Landing Gear - 5 Steps - 27-7/16" Base - 300 lbs Item # TLA8005 instead of a 4-step model. Choosing a set of these steps is based on the height of the unit once installed. According to TorkLift the optimal mounting height is measured from the ground to the top of the GlowStep Revolution Frame when the trailer is leveled on flat ground. For the 5-step model that height is 42-3/4 inches. The 4-step model # TLA8004 has an optimum height of 35-1/4 inches.

The reason the height is important is ground clearance. If the steps hang too low when collapsed they can get caught on something and get damaged.

The GlowStep Revolution is height adjustable to match the terrain the trailer is parked on. The GlowStep Revolution frame has three adjustment points: High, Medium, and Low. If mounted at the
optimal height as mentioned above the GlowStep Revolution should be set at the medium height when the trailer is leveled on flat ground.

Since camp sites are rarely level, the top step can be raised or lowered 2" by moving the GlowStep Revolution frame into the High or Low position. This is accomplished by lifting one of step release levers, and then moving the steps in or out of the GlowStep Revolution frame until the locking mechanism locks into the next position.

Further adjustments can be made at the All Terrain Landing Gear located at the bottom of the steps. From the middle position, the All Terrain Landing Gear can be adjusted up or down as much as 1-1/2" by changing the location of the push buttons on the side of the vertical tubes.

The steps do not need to sit perfectly parallel to the ground to be functional. The All Terrain Landing Gear feet may be adjusted independently to match uneven ground surfaces. The 1/4" x 1-3/8" Bail Pin MUST be installed in the passenger or driver side step release lever before using
the steps.

To making getting in an out of the RV even easier I recommend adding the TorkLift GlowGuide Handrail for Campers and RVs with GlowStep Scissor Steps Item # TLA7621.
