The Drain Master cam-lock waste water hose is second to none, but after having to use a small allen wrench to manually open/close a failed Drain Master black tank valve, I replaced both with this Valterra assembly. They require a fair amount of space above them to open, but it is much easier to manually operate them, if necessary. They are well-constructed. No leaks, no problems after a year of use, and etrailer offered quick delivery and excellent customer service.

Keep in mind-- the switches are a rocker design that makes open/close positions less obvious, and in bright sun, the red led may be hard to see. I learned this while flushing out my black tank. After I was finished, I reinserted the stopper, thinking the black tank valve was closed. The next time I went to drain the tanks, I took the stopper out, and had a 40 gallon gusher of raw sewage! One thing I can say about all my RV mistakes- I never repeat them!

A year later, we are still full-time in the RV. I am using the Valterra valves every couple days and they continue to operate faultlessly.

1 year review. Purchased the Valterra electric waste dump valves (3 ea.) and after 1 year the motor on one unit has failed. I did reorder a replacement unit as I still prefer these over traditional cable pull valves.

by:

I’m retired didn’t want to crawl under and pull the lever anymore. Any do it your selfer can install. Fantastic for me!!

by:

Ordered and received in 3 days with free shipping. Installed the following weekend in about 2 hours. Tested prior to and after installation. All necessary materials were supplied in package. The valves stroke cleanly and quickly. Indicators show open valves. Good quality switches. I am extremely happy with these valves. Wish I knew of them sooner. Well worth every penny.

by:

Best upgrade I have ever done to my cam per!!

by:

I haven't used it yet, but got it in record time. Thanks

by:

Got it today thought I’ll probably put in Saturday and as I took it out of the box the manual lever lock was broke and filed down to make it look like it was meant to be. And it also said that it comes with the black and gray water switch, it only came with the black tank one. Direction should have been included, right nope.

by:

Installation was easy…. Getting to them was the hard part.
Taking down the underbelly was less than fun. Cutting holes in it was even a worse idea.
But, installation went well. Great product, super fast open and close, easy to wire and made my own console for the switches which wasn’t hard either.

Had to put them in different directions due to the main sewer drain being in the way but the auto gate valves do not care which way they go, they work fine either way. Just hope they last as I really don’t like working on my back….

by:

I installed 3 of these valves on my RV, i've had them for a year now with no problems with the valves themselves the only issue was one of the switch red lights that lets you know it's open went out but really don't need it, I am very pleased

by:

Except for having to make some minor modifications to my flanges (they were bowed out between the bolt holes) so the actuators were clearing the flange, the install was easy. The flange issue is not the valve manufacturers fault, just how the flange was made. My old valves were cable style and cheap and these will be a great upgrade on Leaky crappy valves. I was tired of getting the sewer surprise every time I dumped. etrailer delivered on time and at a good value.

by:

Nice valve for remote operation . The wiring is 4 ft from switch to motor/valve, and 3 ft of wire for power. I replaced power wire with a 10 ft piece which was only $9 bucks. Take pic of switch wiring cause you need to remove wires from switch to pass wires through any holes you drill in floor and cabinets, etc . Watch out for water , electric wires when drilling holes. Hole needs to be at least 1/2”for wire ends to pass through. If wood is thick I would do 5/8” hole . Pass big wire ends through first and smaller next. Or cut wire ends off and recrimip new ends after running wires.

by:

Every things was in the package , arrive at the time its was schedule .
The installation went very good and easy , to dot it your self if you are manuel its will work find.
I change a existing cable valve with this electric waste valve , the only bad situation was to work under the RV .
The valve work great .

by:

I replaced the 2 manual valves with 2 E40A-8’s...one of the best upgrades I’ve done with my Renegade RV.... Easy installation......Great product..... Great price..... Thanks etrailer.... You’re still the best.....

by:

The customer loves it. He said it's a lot easier to control all the dumps in one spot.

by:

Switch installed backwards

by:

Install a little hard but valve worked great.

by:

This is such a great product,I don't know why it is not an option more often on a rv.I installed the control switch inside my rv near a window that looks out on the sewer connection.I have the clear 3" elbows on both hose ends of my sewer hose, and can observe from inside, the operation of emptying my black tank.Being able to do so during rainy or cold weather is such a great luxury.I have had this in operation for about a year now and it has performed flawlessly.I chose this brand over others due to the ability to manually operate valve in event of a power loss.Installation was very simple and instructions were very detailed. Will never have a rv without one now.

by:

Good quality components. One of the valve actuators arrived damage. Contacted etrailer and they shipped out a replacement. All in all great addition to my sister-in-law's rig as she has trouble bending down

by:

So far a very good valve. I just removed the old cable valve and this slipped right into it's place.
There was one little surprise, the instructions did not indicate which 12v wire was positive. There is a black and white wire. I assumed black was positive, it's not. So of course the valve opened when I connected the wires.

by:

I bought this item hoping it would fix the issues I had with the factory installed cable, NOPE. This part is no better than the cable system. The clip that hold the valve handle to the electric motor doesn’t clip on correctly, I even tried making it work with zip ties, it worked for maybe two weeks, now I just crawl under the RV and operate it manually. Don’t waste your money.

by:

After one year these valves have been flawless. I added one for black and one for grey tank on our Montana 5th wheel. So much better than the stiff cable valves it had from the factory that never completly closed.

by:

I would recommend this product to anyone who has long remote pull drains.
It made both the black and gray water work without a hitch. Just smooth full open to full closed. Well worth the money. Install them myself with the help of my son. They bolted right up no problem.

by:

Was originally thold the items would not ship until the week of the 10th, almost a full week after my order was placed. When I called about the order was told it was out of stock. But their website said instock. I recieved the order this afternoon on the 10th. I have been overall very happy with Etrialer and will continue to order from them. As far as the valve, install is tomorrow

I am more than satisfied with this product. We purchased a brand New Renegade Vienna MH, on a Mercedes Chassis. It is a very nice Motor Home, but the very tight spaces underneath the rear caused the (cable pull) Valves very hard to pull and would not close all the way. To our disappointment the manufacturer could not make them work to my satisfaction. A independent repair facility near us suggested the Valterra Electric valves. The manual valves that were on the MH already were Valterra, so the switch was extremely easy. BEST DECISION I've made in years. I 100% suggest this product

  • Repositioning RV Waste Drain Valves
The Valterra EZ Valve Double Electric Waste Valve # E85-8 is designed to connect to two horizontal 3-inch waste pipes to combine them for dumping through the central tube. From your photo I cannot tell if that is your setup. On this part the two bolt-on valve bodies can be unbolted, rotated to another orientation and then bolted back together. For installations that require it this can give you the needed clearance for the electric motor/handle assemblies. You do need to use ABS solvent...

  • Can You Replace Just the Valve When Upgrading To Electric Sewer Waste Control
In order to upgrade from manual to electric waste control valves you'll need to change out the entire housing/body as well. For this, we have quite a few options which will depend on if you have separate valve like part # E40B-8 or combined like part # E85-8. These options both have hub fittings which are the easiest to change out since all you need to do is cut the old ones off and slide the new ones on with some solvent part # A05-0303.

  • Dimensions of Valterra EZ Valve Double Electric Waste Valves
I went to take some measurements of the Valterra EZ Valve Double Electric Waste Valves # E85-8 and found it was about 12 inches wide as in the accompanying photo. The depth was more difficult because it is electric and there are wires on either side but you would need 8 inches at the least for it to fit, so a space that is about 12-1/2" by 8" minimum would be needed. Also keep in mind that you will need to use ABS Solvent Cement # A05-0303 for installation.

Thanks for the photos, and you will need to install the Valterra EZ Valve Double Electric Waste Valves - Rotating - (3) 3" Hubs # E85-8 further up. The valves need to connect to your gray and black water tank and then to the down pipe; to secure the EZ Valve to your pipes you will also need the Valterra ABS Solvent Cement # A05-0303. • Orientation of Valterra EZ Valve Double Electric Waste Valves for Install
The Valterra EZ Valve Double Electric Waste Valves # E85-8 is essentially a manual system with an electrical function that moves the manual waste valve handle. This means that you basically just have to install it so that the handles won't make contact with anything under your RV. If you check out the attached installation instructions you can see the section about the valve installation. To complete you're installation you'll also need the solvent # A05-0303.

  • What is the Difference Between Valterra EZ Valve Electric Waste Valves # E85-8 and # E84-8
The difference between the Valterra EZ Valve Electric Waste Valves # E85-8 and # E84-8 is the design of the center output tube. On # E85-8 it's a straight, regular hub. On # E84-8 the center tube has bayonet fittings. Based on your pictures you would need # E84-8. However, the input size of either hub is 3 inches so your smaller tubes would not fit without adapting to the tubing size you have up to a 3 inch mating tube to fit the E84-8. Valterra EZ Valve Electric Waste Valve # E1003VP is operated with a switch and the valve would either open or close accordingly. If you are talking about just installing a second switch then it is possible though the switch is not available separately.
