Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Curt 5/8ths pin and clip. Now this is gonna be for your two inch hitches and it's gonna allow you to hook your accessories into your hitch. Most of your ball mounts when you pick them up will not come with a pin and clip and a lot of accessories will have their own. But if you're getting something secondhand or yours doesn't you are gonna need a pin and clip to have any accessories stay in place. So a pin and clip is obviously very crucial when using your hitch. So getting one that's nice, like this is a great option.
And what makes it nice is some of the other ones just have a hole drilled through and once you put your pin in, you're kind of stuck with a little bit of rotation before it hits the safety chain loops where this one's different. It has a nice groove allowing you to put your pin and clip in in any direction and that way it's also not gonna just bind up against the safety cables. You can kind of move this around if you need a little bit of extra room. Now you also have a two and three quarter inch usable span here. So on our hitch we do have a little bit of room so if you have any other accessories that might go on here that's gonna allow for that.
Now being that it is made out of steel that means it's gonna be durable but it also has a zinc coating on here. So if you plan on leaving your accessories or your ball mount in place throughout the year, no problem. This is gonna hold up to that rust and corrosion in whatever elements you may be driving. Now if you are leaving your accessories on the vehicle throughout the year, I would maybe consider looking at a locking pin and clip. Kurt has plenty of options here available at etrailer and that way you can leave your accessories on, lock it in place and not have to worry about someone taking your accessories.

Pretty simple device. Seems as durable as the other hitch pins that I use.
This pin fits and seems strong, but I don't love the design. The clip sticks out which makes it potentially exposed to something like road debris which could catch it and pull it out, thus exposing the pin to risk of a major failure. I ordered a different pin with a better design.

I have used the reducer and pin twice to carry 2 bikes on a Kuat rack over a total of 800 miles without problem. I did find it cut down on the movement if I put a couple of pennies on one side where that was some slack between the receiver and the reducer (which is the step down from the 2 to 1 1/4). Overall, well pleased.
This 8" Drop Ball Mount was exactly what I needed for my Honda Pilot to transition to my Camper and utility trailer. This kept both my units level for proper towing. The ball mount, ball, and pin will hold up for years of towing. I am grateful for etrailer and everything they have to offer. They will always be my go to store for my towing needs.

Simple pin and clip that works! The groove makes it much easier to attach and remove the clip.
I usually prefer my clips to go through a pinhole but the clip grabs onto pin very well.
