After ordering rails for a fifth wheel that I had in an older truck, I was told the rails I ordered would work with my fifth wheel, however after installing the front rail, the fifth wheel would not work with the rails ordered. I ended up ordering a new fifth wheel plate. That was easier than removing the frame brackets I had already installed. It appears that there was a mis communication between the person I talked to with etrailer. Instead of a 1/2 day install it took a day and a half plus wait time for the fifth wheel to get to my address. However once installed it appears to be good.

by:

The hitch worked great. Reason for the 2 stars is the package got delayed twice in transit and I had to reschedule the pickup of my fifth wheel. When I also received the package the main crossmember bar was bent at the mounting point. Luckily I was able to bend it back but UPS needs to get there act together.

by:

Well packed, free 5 days shipping, easy to assemble and nice looking hitch. Im extra amazed because i can remove the king pin base/head from the bridge leg assembly to easily transport them. Still not tested with the coach. Practically no lateral movement and have the suspicion bushings. Very firm and easy mechanisms. Do not leave the gate open for long term because could damage the main spring. I plan to pull a 11k 334FWFLS. Nothing compared to this hitch in this price range. I will add some extra feedback after couple travels.

More than 1000 miles pulling a 38 fifth wheel and still like new

by:

Great price and works really well with the camper im pulling with no issues what so ever even sits low enough to have my bed cover on without removing any parts of the hitch

by:

The hitch looks great as shipped from etrailer. The problem was UPS destroyed the package and hitch. I have just started the claims process through UPS. I have always had great success with everything coming from etrailer until now. It was obvious the box had been dropped numerous times. It had been retapped a few times trying to hold it together. The steel crossmember was bent in two directions. It cannot be used which makes this hitch worthless. I see no fault with etrailer (except I recommend putting the cardboard package inside a heavier box to help UPS prevent damage). This package is around ninety pounds shipping in a thin cardboard box. I will be ordering a new hitch from etrailer and hoping for a better shipping experience. I have to postpone my vacation due to not having a working hitch.

I have hauled a 34 foot toyhauler hundreds of miles with this hitch, very happy and would suggest it to anyone.

by:

The hitch arrived very fast, and was boxed well. It doesn't come assembled in order to reduce the shipping size, but it's super easy to assemble. Just four 1/2" bolts attach the legs to the main crossmember, and one small 3/16" bolt attaches the lever release arm. In all, it only took about 15 minutes to assemble and set in the truck. It even comes with the hitch pins needed to install on your rails. The only thing you'll need that's not included is about 4 to 8, 1/2" washers. Very happy with the hitch, and always look to etrailer.com for my replacement hauling/trailer parts!

by:

Haven't had a chance to use the hitch yet but I got it installed without too much trouble. It took about 4 hours to install, the frame mounting brackets and rails, at a leisurely pace. The unit seems to be very sturdy and it is certainly built heavy. I'm looking forward to testing it out soon.

by:

I bought the curt fifth wheel and base to convert my B&W turnover ball and this thing fits perfectly it went together smoothly and in under an hour easily highly reccomend

by:

Used this 3 times and didn’t like the clunking. Should have expected the clunking with a slide bar type hitch. Purchased a Demco Recon which I like very much

by:

Came super dry. Even after lubing it I had to hammer the crap out of it with a rubber mallet to get the slide bar jaw to open on several occasions. Seemed like lots of welding spatter left on moving parts also, so overall quality is somewhat suspect. It's a cheaper unit so you get what you pay for I suppose. While in use it works fine and allowed very little chucking.

by:

Its a great product and with the rail kit it makes an awesome beast for towing. It has provided great service and satisfaction so far.

by: 01/26/2024

A little disappointing. The fit was good, and installation easy. But it was missing one of the critical long carriage bolts and spacer.
I didn't have time to send it back, so I had to fabricated a solution since I pick my new camper up in a few days.
Missing hardware definitely added to installation time.

by:

Easy installation. Fast shipping

by:

I just installed the Curt E 16 fifth wheel hitch and it looks great

by:

E-trailer made the order process very easy, and the shipping was much faster than I expected. The boxes arrived in fairly good condition, but the hitch arms were scratched up due to poor internal packaging. Since the hitch was packed in an E-Trailer box, I assume they repackaged this product.
Otherwise, the Curt hitch and custom rails seem to be very good products for the money!

The E16 hitch is adequate. I get a lot of clunking when starting and stopping due to the straight locking bar style hitch. I wish now that I would have spent more money and got a hitch that had locking jaws that clamped around the pin.

by:

Now that's a hitch!! Great set up for the money!!

by:

It is just what I wanted, coming from the world of big trucks, I wanted a hitch that auto snaps closed, it does just that, it mounted right in my old Reese plate system on 22” center, so far I am very happy not only with the hitch, but also the price and the customer service from
E trailer, thanks for the support . Chris S.

I still love it less work for me, you back in it locks your done, and unlock is easy pull the handle never sticks love it!!!

by:

The customer service with etrailer was awful. Thier system showed an incorrect part for my vehicle and they admitted that but between the shipping mess back and forth. I would of liked a discount or a faster shipment on the correct parts that were already opened and missing hardware. Never again. Good thing its only a fifth wheel assembly and doesnt require quality hardware.

by:

This hitch was very easy to put on. We use it to pull our camper several times last summer. We have not had any problems hooking or unhooking from the hitch. Looking forward to another season camping. Thanks etrailer

2/1/2021

Still working great. We used it alot last summer and plan on putting it to good use this summer.

by:

First the bolts were a little short. But they quickly sent longer ones. Slightly tight fitting in bed rails. Used it once got more tight. After the second time had to use two by four to pop it out.. After a couple more tines of use it won’t budge at all. I think the hitch is spreading out. Wouldn’t have taken much to beef it up with some kid of support going across near the bottom. Not as much side to side tip of the 5th wheel plate as advertised. Get much more than 1 1/2” you have to put block under the truck wheels to get unhooked. A little forward and backward movement of 5th wheel pin but not bad. Other wise it works good.

by:

excellent customer service!!!! will deal with Alex again if more trailer/hitch parts are needed. Happy Hoildays to all

by:

We had our other truck stolen with the 5 th wheel hitch and many other possessions in it. This company shipped us another hitch quickly for our new truck and other needed equipment we needed to get back on the road. Thank you

by:

The hitch was damaged in shipping. They replaced it quickly. Their customer service was a pleasant surprise. They also have excellent installation videos. I recommend etrailer for their prices and customer service.

by:

Great entry level fifth wheel, I don’t use it on a daily basis but have used it enough to say it is a great entry level fifth wheel, it does have some slack because it is a slide-bar hitch, but other than that it works great with no problems.

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit for a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 w/5-1/2 Foot Bed and Ram Box
Since your 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 has the 5-1/2 foot bed with the Ram Box feature there are special requirements if you want to tow a 5th wheel trailer. Basically you will need to replace the factory pin box on the trailer with a Sidewinder. The Sidewinder moves the trailer pivot point back 22 inches and the narrow bed on Ram Box models won't be a factor because the arm of the Sidewinder stays straight and won't hit the bed sides on turns. Before anything else we have to see if there is a...

The Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter - Single Jaw - 21,000 lbs # DM8550045 is not a good option for your 2015 Ram short box with Ram Box. The issue with Ram Box is that it limits the ability to use a 5th wheel hitch because the boxes get in the way of the Pin Box on your trailer. The only option for Ram Box is to use a standard hitch (not a gooseneck adapted hitch) and then a Sidewinder Pin Box to move the turning point of the trailer back 22 inches to avoid...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendations for 2007 Toyota Tundra Long Bed
If by 'long bed' you mean an 8 foot bed, no you will not need a sliding fifth wheel hitch to tow your Cougar 27sab Xlite. However, if you have the 6-1/2 foot bed, you would indeed need a sliding hitch like the # 16516 Curt E16 fifth wheel hitch w/ slider you mentioned. The non-sliding version of the E16 is part # C16115. This being said, the E16 uses a slide bar type jaw that will allow the fifth wheel's king pin to rattle and bang around in the hitch. A LOT. It will hold the king pin...

  • 5th Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Ford F-250 Long Bed Towing 28-Ft Jayco
Since your Jayco 5th wheel trailer has a pivoting Revolution pin box (also known as a Sidewinder) you do not need a sliding hitch in your 2014 Ford F-250. Also, since this truck has an 8-ft bed you will have excellent turning clearance when making your low-speed maneuvers. For a fixed 5th wheel hitch I suggest the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 lbs # C16115. The installation kit # C16424-204 includes custom brackets for reduced install time. • Does Sidewinder Move Weight of Trailer Pin Weight Behind Rear Axle
While the Sidewinders like the part # RP34FR do move the pivot point back 22-1/2 inches when towing due to pivoting arm the weight is still centered in the fifth wheel hitch jaw. Also the arm of the Sidewinder extends out the same distance as a standard pin box so the pin weight wouldn't change either. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one. There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box...

With the design of the trailer you can use a regular fixed hitch instead of a slider.
