Installation of Tekonsha T-One Connector

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your rear cargo area. You will have to remove access panels, storage trays, and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the body harness up to your car battery, and route the blue wire up to the grommet that leads into the cargo door. Then connect all of the wires per the included instructions.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a 2-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's 3-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter hardwires to the body harness that is included in this kit. Just connect the black wire from the brake controller adapter to your car battery, and connect the white wire to a suitable ground. The remaining wires can then be easily spliced into the body harness with the included butt connectors.

This adapter is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller. Because the harness does not hardware to your controller, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Wiring For A 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited AWD
For you 2023 Highlander Hybrid you'll need some different parts in order to tow you pop-up camper. For the hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT65MR. This hitch will allow you to use a weight distribution hitch, which might not really be needed with a pop-up trailer but we would be helpful later on if you ever sized up. This hitch also won't interfere with the spare tire, as some will require an 18" or smaller spare. To install a 7-way on your Highlander...

  • Selecting The Correct Wiring Harness For Towing With a 2022 Toyota Highlander
To begin you will need to know if your trailer has a 4-way flat connector or a 7-way connection. The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK99FR for your 2022 Toyota Highlander has a 4-way flat connector. This type of connection is most commonly used on small trailers with no brakes or boat trailers that have surge brakes. The connector only carries power for the running lights, brake lights and turn signals to function. The Mounting Brackets # 18140 and # 18144 will allow you to secure...

  • 7-Way and Wireless Brake Controller for 2021 Toyota Highlander
To add a 7-way to your 2021 Toyota Highlander all you need is the 7-way kit part # TK57VR that you referenced. This has the 12 volt accessory circuit active but to activate the trailer brakes you'd need a brake controller like the Curt Echo Mobile part # C51180 which would just need to plug into the 7-way and once synced to your phone is ready to tow with.

  • Is The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C99FR A Fit For A 2023 Toyota Highlander
That's totally fine, it's just nice to have the ability to use a weight distribution hitch because if you ever do trade up or tow a trailer to move some stuff around and you get in the 3,500-4,000lb range these start being pretty useful to help with sag and keeping the trailer tracking straight. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C99FR is a confirmed fit for your Highlander and will offer a much more hidden look with the crosstube being completely hidden behind the bumper. The wiring and...

Your 2022 Toyota Highlander Platinum is a non-xse trim. The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e75ZR is the one I recommend for your Highlander. This receiver has a hidden cross tube and a weight rating of 500lbs tongue weight and 5,000lbs trailer capacity. Be sure to check with Toyota for your exact tow rating on your Highlander and do not exceed the lower of the 2 ratings. You will need to choose between a 4-Way Flat Connector # TK99FR and a 7-Way Round Blade Connector # TK57VR. This...

  • 7-Way and Brake Controller Recommendation for 2023 Toyota Highlander
For the simplest install the Tekonsha 7-wa part # TK57VR would be what you would need for a fully functional 7-way for your 2023 Toyota Highlander. Then for a brake controller the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED24FR would be a really great option that only puts a small knob on the dash of the vehicle and is proportional which means it senses how hard you are applying the brakes and puts a relative amount on the trailer brakes.

  • Trailer Hitch Fit for 2021 Toyota Highlander With 20 Inch Spare Tire
Most of the hitches available for your 2021 Highlander would prevent any spare tire larger than 18 inches from being stowed under the vehicle, but the exception would be the EcoHitch # EH35VR. If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness like # TK99FR for a 4 pole connector or # TK57VR for a 7-way connector. For a ball mount, use # 2753 and # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball. I've linked to install videos that you might find helpful.
