Recommended Trailer Hitch and 7-way Connector For 2020 Toyota Highlander Limited

Question:

Hi there, I need some help. I had a 2014 Toyota Highlander Limited which got totaled, so I need a new trailer hitch receiver and wiring setup. My new car is a 2020 Toyota Highlander Limited. I have a 19foot travel trailer with an E2 weight distribution hitch and a Prodigy RF brake controller. What hitch receiver would you recommend for this hitch? I would also like to retain the hands free tailgate lift as much as possible. Which 7 point wiring setup do I need? Is there probably a plug in at the rear of my vehicle or will I have to have wires ran? Also for the brake controller, was there anything on my old car that is needed for it to function, or is it just the remote and the box on my hitch? Thanks so much in advance, you guys are great!

I'm really sorry to hear that your '14 Highlander got totaled and hope every one involved is ok!

For your new 2020 Toyota Highlander Limited I recommend going with the Curt # C45CR as it's one of few hitches for your vehicle that's compatible with a weigh distribution hitch, but do know that all of the hitches for your vehicle mention that the hands free lift gate sensor will get blocked and will be very limited or may not work. I'd check with Toyota to see if they have a relocation bracket you can pick up to keep function of the sensor.

For a 7-way connector you'll want to go with the Tekonsha # TK57VR which will plug into a factory plug but will require running a few wires.

Your Prodigy RF only has the part that mounts to the trailer, and the remote, there's no parts that get installed in your old car.

I went ahead and included a few videos of the products mentioned for you to check out
