Trailer Hitch Receiver For a 2022 Toyota Highlander Compatible With a Weight Distribution Hitch

Question:

Greetings: Will be buying a hitch for 2022 Toyota Highlander. Towing a 3500 lb max wt camper with 400 lb tongue wt. Why does the etrailer brand hitch state a weight distribution hitch cannot be used? The Highlander has a 5000 tow and 500 tongue wt capacity. Do I need to buy the Curt hitch? Seems to trailer hitch would work? Thanks.

With the design of our etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e75ZR it is not capable of being used with weight distribution. This design is great for a concealed look but the Curt # C45CR is much stronger and allows you to use weight distribution on your 2022 Toyota Highlander.

I recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37060ET for your trailer. This particular system is rated for a trailer with 200-600lbs of tongue weight and a total weight up to 6,000lbs. I prefer Equal-i-zer as they continue to be the brand everyone attempts to compete with and their made in the USA quality is designed to last a lifetime.

If you are also needing electrical connection for your trailer the Tekonsha 7-way # TK57VR will allow you to connect to your factory wiring. There is minimal wire splicing required with this harness and it provides you with a connector for a Tekonsha Brake Controller # 90195. If you do not like having the large controller mounted to the dash you can also use the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller for Tekonsha Harness # RED63RR. This will connect directly to the Tekonsha connector with the main portion hidden behind the dash and a small dash mounted control knob for controlling your brakes. The Mounting Panel # 331-TPSI-002 will allow you to mount the knob in one of the blank switch panels on your dash.
