  • Hopkins

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring - no cutting or splicing required.

Features:

  • Provides a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights
    • Compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters (sold separately)
  • Connects quickly and easily - no cutting or splicing
    • Locate connection point in rear cargo area
    • Plug in connector
  • Includes a tail light converter to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer
  • Protective connection terminals resist corrosion
  • Comes with dust cap for 4-way flat connector, cable ties, and terminal grease packet for electrical connections
  • 90-Day limited warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, either behind the driver's-side trim panel or in the spare tire compartment.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Easy to install. I had to access the wiring harness by the spare tire, then connect the trailer wiring. No cutting of wires or splicing is necessary. Plug and play.

Still working great after a year. No issues. I installed the harness for my Waverunner trailer.

2014 Subaru Forester

I purchased a hitch and wiring harness for my Subaru. My order was promptly filled and shipped. Everything went together smoothly and the how-to videos are outstanding. Big thumbs up to a great company!

by:

Great YouTube videos reviewing wiring harness options and how to install them!

by:

Super simple installation and works like a charm.

by:

Easy to install and works great. I would recommend getting the mounting bracket that they offer (Item # HM48595) for the connector to keep it secured and easy to access.

by:

I HAVE NOT USED THIS REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER YET.

Subaru

Easy solo-installation. Precut holes lined up perfectly and instructions were clear and easy to follow. Product performed with zero issues. My wife was rear-ended recently, the 5” rise hitch took the entirety of the blow. After inspections by Subaru they concluded there was zero damage to the car, frame and hitch receiver. 5” rise was bent and replaced. Not sure if its protocol to replace this despite the mechanic’s assessment but I included this to support the idea that this receiver is sturdy and well designed for use well beyond the capabilities of this car.

by:

Wires are shorter than in the picture. You have to drop your exhaust so you can lower hitch to pass wire harness between body and hitch crossbar otherwise wire will be too short. Grommet is WAAAAAY TOOO BIG! So unless you want to grind for an hour and hope you keep the hole round your only option is to cut the wires and drill a hole in the factory grommet. This also solves the problem of needing to drop the hitch. This would have been an easy job if the grommet was the proper size and the wire on the end the grommet is on was 6 inches longer. Luckily I had some stainless self tapping screws to mount it in the spare tire well because it wouldn't go any higher with the short wire

by:

Glad one of the videos mentioned the difficulty of reaching the harness in Subaru Outbacks.

by:

Installation was simple once I found the connection point. The plug wasn't as easily accessible as the videos showed. Instead, you need to remove the cargo hitch point to find the short lead behind it. Once you have that, it's simple.

by:

excellent fit and built product for the trailer light connections.

by:
2018 Subaru Forester

Friends: When I installed the trailer hitch I did not cut a section out of the heat shield above the muffler. Instead I drilled 5/8” holes where the bolts go through. The shield is already prepunched where it is to be drilled. I used butyl tape around the bolts to seal them and hold the bolts. For the wiring harness, I simply used Velcro to hold the unit to the inside of the spare tire well rather than tape.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek

The DYI videos
provided by etrailer.com provided a quick and easy how-to. It was literally as easy as watching the video on my computer and going out and installing it in 30 minutes. I also installed Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat, Item # 18144 and No-Drill Mount Bracket, Short, Item # 18140 and it looks great.

by:

Terrible quality. Had shorted out in less than 1 month. Purchased another through another vendor because etrailer would not offer any discount or stand by the product I purchased from them.

by:

It felt a little expensive, but after shopping realized it was the best product in price. It arrived in the mail today along with the hitch that I ordered from the trailer. The instructions were crystal clear, and I installed it in 15 minutes on my 2012 Subaru Forrester. I couldn’t believe how easy it was

by:

A perfect fit, includes all the pieces necessary, and has plenty of extra wire. I used double sided tape to stick my box to the inside of the spare tire compartment, everything is plug and play and it’s ready to go.

by:

Plug and play just like advertised

by:
2017 Subaru XV Crosstrek

I used this wire harness along with the knockout plug adaptor part number 47605 on my 2017 crosstrek. It is very easy to use both on my crosstrek to make a clean look.

by:

Installed perfect a year ago and no problems since. My 2nd hitch receiver from etrailer and I will be back

by:

Hard to find the connector on car but works well.

by:

Does the trick! As with all purchases I've made with etrailer, resources including pics, videos, and customer reviews make installation a breeze

Subaru Forester

Perfect fit, great instructions, dealer did not have hitch and wiring for my new Subaru Forester, nor would have for weeks they said, so I went with etrailer for less than 300.00 dollars (hitch and wiring) a few weeks later the dealer called, said the hitch was in and they would install it, for a total cost of 740.00, well they are no longer my dealer, there is not enough room here to give etrailer the praise they deserve!!!

2014 Subaru Outback Wagon

This was the easiest hookup ever. Subaru plug pulled relatively easy. Make sure you mount the electrical interface box low enough in the wheel well that it doesn't impede proper placement of the foam insert storage tray. I didn't really need this now but likely will in the future. Costs a little more but install and through wheel well to hitch frame makes it the perfect choice and fit for my 2014 Subaru Outback.

Pretty much the same comment applies a year later. Easy install, all good. Only thing is my 4 pin connector cover snapped off somehow and I need to replace it.

  • Installing 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness In 2013 WRX Hatchback
The vehicle body harness you need to plug into is located under the left (driver's side) sidewall. If you can't get easy access to it, I recommend removing the panel to gain easy access and then reinstalling the panel once connected. The connector may not be as loose as you expect, but it is there. I've attached the installation details for you. Unfortunately I don't have a video of the installation to attach for you.

  • When Installing Hopkins Trailer Wiring in 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Does Exhaust Need to be Avoided
You do want to make sure that the 4-way wiring of the # HM11143865 does not get close to the exhaust as it could potentially melt and damage it if so. This isn't covered in the attached install video as the exhaust is far enough away that our installer didn't feel it was important to make this warning but you'd need to use your best judgment.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2019 Subaru Forester
We do have a hitch for your 2019 Subaru Forester, part # 76271 from Draw-Tite. The hitch is rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds but from my research your Forester is rated up to 1,500 pounds as long as the trailer has brakes. If it doesn't have brakes then you're limited to 1,000 pounds. Always make sure you stay within the limitations of the vehicle. To tow a trailer you also need a wiring harness. Instead of hardwiring to taillight circuits it uses sensors that clamp around them instead so you don't have to make any permanent modifications.

  • Should Holes on Side of etrailer Hitch e98839 For 2015 Subaru Forester be Plugged
You have an excellent eye! Those are actually drain holes on the side of the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98839. The reason for the holes - which do not have to be plugged - is that the hitch is dipped in a liquid coating for rust prevention, and the holes allow the inside of the hitch to get that coating as well. The holes then allow the fluid to drain out of the hitch. So you don't have to worry about the holes causing any issues after installation of the etrailer Trailer Hitch...
