There are quite a few and it can be rather confusing.

For starters I recommend getting a Class III trailer hitch on your 2018 Subaru Forester. A Class III hitch has a higher weight capacity and is the larger 2 inch receiver. There are more accessory options, like bike racks and cargo carriers, that fit the 2 inch as opposed to the smaller 1-1/4 inch size.

Of the Class III hitches for you there are basically two designs; a visible cross tube with the reciever coming directly from it and the concealed cross tube which the receiver drops down below it. Personally I prefer the concealed cross tube because it's a much cleaner look. The installation is more involved because you need to take the rear bumper off but it's worth it in the end.

We carry two hitches that have the concealed cross tube; the EcoHitch # 306-X7216 and the Draw-Tite # 76182. The biggest difference between the two is the price tag so I recommend the Draw-Tite hands down. I've linked install videos of both of them for you to take a look at. Also, the photo I attached is of the Draw-Tite installed so you can see how the only parts of the hitch that're visible are the receiver opening and safety chain loops.

If you also need trailer wiring I recommend the Hopkins, part # HM11143865. It has the highest amp draw of the three that fit your Forester. I also prefer the installation becasue the converter box mounts with two screws instead of just one or just double-sided tape. If a converter moves around it can be damaged and the harness will no longer function.
